8 2 New features in version Changes to previous versions Introduction of a new (more easily understandable) term world and way of thinking Processor nodes now called applications Introduction of a parent major group in applications and subprojects The view of the processor node layer in the project editor exists no more. Medium wires between gate objects exist no more. Buses are drawn only at objects if at least one object property is connected with a bus channel. Now it is easier to disable object types for testing purposes (diagnostic mode). This can be done directly in the object tree, no longer using the project settings. To change the type of a derived object type or of an object instance, now you can use drag &drop. The therefore needed additional dialog box of older VAC versions was eliminated. On connection wires now the direction of signal flow is displayed. This increase the readability of projects. The dialogs which were needed to select data source and date sink while connecting hidden properties were eliminated too. You can directly select a property in a selection list on the hidden property. Now the input / output list is available in the property list of the object. A stand alone property list dialog is superfluous thus. Unwired visualization controls on dialogs without project reference are no more possible. Objects which are newly created on dialogs now automatically receive a project reference in the group of the dialog on which they were placed. Dialogs (in groups) now can be copied completely, i.e. the visualization control references are no longer lost when copying. Connections between non grouped objects are copied too. During the online diagnosis, the communication between VAC Development Studio and VAC runtime system no longer bases on DCOM. The communication now bases on Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). Release Notes, Version Page 8 of 10

9 2.2 New in 5.0 New toolbars in the project editor, in the dialog editor as well as in the tree views alleviate the daily work with the development studio. Object trees can be filtered. Thereby only object instances are displayed in the trees which are used in the current group that is visible in the project editor. Subprojects can be edited without a container. A list of all subprojects available in the project folder (no matter if they are used in the project or not) is displayed in the project tree. Subproject container instances can be created directly by drag & drop into the project editor. A subproject can be loaded directly for editing. No recursive open of all parent container levels is necessary. Optional all projects of a container, not only the default project can be loaded while loading all subprojects. Information about user rights, color, font and image resources now also be saved in subprojects. This facilitates the exchange of subprojects between projects. The project editor is zoomable. The width of object instances, groups and containers can be changed in the project editor. Thus long captions of properties and objects can be displayed. Group properties can be defined anywhere within the frame of the current group. Thereby the [+] property of the current group is needed no more. Optionally, comments can be displayed in permanently visible balloon tooltips. Now you can define a default color for standard object types. The application layout will no longer defined by using the dialog editor. For this a own, comfortable configuration dialog was created. VAC 5.0 provides a new configuration dialog to set the size and position of dialogs. Now also a separate configuration dialog to set size and anchor properties of controls placed on dialogs is available. By using this multiple controls can be configured at the same time. A standard dictionary for German and English was introduced. Thus, all standard functions of an application are already bilingual available. You can customize and extend the default dictionary. In addition to the known variants for touch screen operation now also externally created touch keyboards (created with Click'nType) are supported. A completely new developed diagnostic tool, based on Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), supersedes the previous diagnosis. The diagnostic window excels with some new features and especially with its simplified usability. The diagnosis is now available in German and English and can be translated into any other languages by using the VAC dictionary functionality. Release Notes, Version Page 9 of 10

10 2.3 VAC 5.0 and WPF WPF controls created by any external WPF editor can be used like a VAC dialog. For this you can use the option "WPF Dialog" on the VAC object "Appl. Dialog". Thus, the dialog can as usual as modal or non modal popup dialog or a layout pane appear. Individual elements of the WPF visualization tree can be approached by using the new object type "WPF Instance". Instances of this type can be assigned to a WPF dialog. After that the instance object provides all properties of the WPF control as object properties. 2.4 The new.net API In addition to the existing interface for object development, now managed interfaces for developing VAC object types is available. This makes it possible to develop VAC objects directly in an arbitrary.net language, e.g. in C#. The managed VAC API can be called via Plugin's directly from the VAC editor. Plugin s can be programmed in any.net language. In the editor you select a Plugin assembly and determine a static method that should be called. Within this function, you can affect the current project. The VAC API now is fully available in.net. Calls from the still existing C++ API are diverted internally to the.net API. The previous VAC API for object development exists of course furthermore. Existing VAC 4.3 objects can be used after a recompile with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 in the new VAC 5.0 environment. The new data type ObjectRef allows exchanging.net object references by connection wires between object properties. 2.5 pure WPF applications (.NET runtime) A WPF application shall be able to run in a pure.net environment and do not necessitate the Microsoft Foundation Classes libraries any more. Thus facilitates the distribution of applications (e.g. by using the ClickOnce technology). 2.6 VAC 5.0 compatibility VAC 4.3 projects can be migrated into VAC 5.0. This applies only to Windows applications. It is not possible to create a WPF application by migrating old project. Existing VAC 4.3 objects can be used after a recompile with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 in the new VAC 5.0 environment. Mixture of previous VAC technologies with new is possible.
