5 Unidrive Base Servo Mode The base Unidrive SP can be easily controlled with single and multi-axis controllers, PLC s and host controllers for medium to high power applications requiring absolute feedback. The analog torque or velocity modes can be used with classic position controllers using analog outputs and encoder inputs. The drive can be controlled over a SERCOS or Profidrive digital motion bus with the addition of a SM-SERCOS or SM-Profibus solution module. Drive setup parameters can be easily stored on a credit card sized SmartCard. Simple sequencing logic can be accomplished using the onboard ladder editor. Configuration and diagnostics is done using the free CTSoft software tool. The SM-Application module provides multitasking advanced position control capable of sequencing logic, point to point, camming, and electronic gearing motion profiles. 7 Unidrive SM-Applications/Plus and Advanced Position Controller (APC) An Advanced Position Controller with multiple functionality is built into the operating system of the SM-Applications/Plus module. The main features of the position controller are: Position control using linear ramps for the velocity profile Speed control using linear or S-ramps for the velocity profile Rigid or non-rigid digital lock with follower ratio Incremental cam table providing automatic control of follower position, relative to master position Reference and Feedback position sources are fully selectable from any drive or option interface Smooth switching between each reference The Advance Position Controller is a software kernel at the heart of the SM-Applications/Plus module. The SyPT software package is used to interface the kernel to any of the Unidrive SP parameters and feedback devices allowing control in Open Loop, Closed Loop and Servo modes. Using an industry standard ladder and function block programming environment motion programs can be precisely tailored to applications with ease. 8 Unidrive CTNet & CTSync for Multi-Axis Motion Control Synchronization ontrolt echni ques.com Besides connecting to almost any fieldbus, the Unidrive SP provides a complete HMI, I/O, and drive machine solution based on CTNet. The CTNet solution can handle even the most complex motion applications while still ensuring components seamlessly work together. The decentralized SM-Applications/Plus modules, with CTNet and CTSync provide the greatest flexibility while optimizing available communication bandwidth. CTNET CTNet is a proven motion network based on the open ARC protocol standard. CTNet is a decentralized peer to peer system requiring no PLC master controller. Each intelligent node takes turns using a proven token ring data link technology. The integration of drive, HMI, and I/O provide customers with a complete CTNet solution. CTNET HMI The CTIU 2 HMI comes with optional CTNet capabilities. The CTIU line is programmed with the free CTIUsoft windows based configuration software. The CTIU2 features 16-line, 4 character display. The SyPTPro programming software includes a hardware configurator which allow for easy drag and drop placement of CTNet drive, HMI, and I/O components. 12 Unidrive Positioning Using AC Vector s 178 If you need to accurately position the motor, but don t require the high speed and rapid acceleration dynamics of a servomotor, the Unidrive SP with an encoderequipped AC induction motor may be the optimum performance solution. The flexibility and high performance of the Unidrive SP make it possible to control three phase induction motors on applications that previously demanded higher priced servo motors. Point to point indexing and material handling applications are ideal for utilizing this capability, especially when motors above 5 hp are required. The cost savings is significant due to the lower cost of materials used in the induction rotor design. AC induction motors have rotors with more mass and larger diameters than servo motors of the same torque capacity, and therefore higher inertia. This is helpful for hgh load-to-motor inertia ratios, and in most cases can eliminate the need for inertia matching gear reduction. The higher inertia of these systems also results in greater low-speed stability. 15 Unidrive With FM s FM FM motors are very smooth, low cogging, medium inertia brushless AC servo motors from Control Techniques. They are 3 phase, 6 or 8 pole, permanent magnet motors exhibiting a sinusoidal back EMF characteristic. Standard options include stack length, parking brake, and cables for motor power and feedback, including incremental, resolver and Sin/Cos Absolute. FM motors can be ordered with smooth shaft or keyed, feedback options, high inertia, and non-standard face plate and shaft diameter options, see the FM motor section for ordering options and details. Standard motors shown are typically stocked. This motor optimizes torque output and reduces cogging torque. The compact design gives increased torsional stiffness.
