7 Tivoli Web Solutions Upgrade Notes This document describes how to upgrade Tivoli Web Services Manager, Version 1.6 (including Tivoli Web Services Analyzer, Version 1.6), and Tivoli Web Component Manager, Version 1.1, to the latest release of Tivoli Web Solutions. Important pre-installation instructions Consider the following information before you upgrade your installation to Tivoli Web Solutions: v Consult the Tivoli Web Solutions Installation Guide, GC , for system prerequisites and database prerequisites. v Back up all of your current installation directories and databases such as the Tivoli Internet Management Servers and Web Services Courier endpoints that contain their own data warehouses when you are sure that your system meets the minimum requirements. You can revert to the previous version by restoring the backed up databases if the upgrade installation fails. Attention: You must immediately reinstall the upgrade if you uninstall it. If you do not immediately reinstall it, you might need to completely remove the product and reinstall it from the Tivoli Web Solutions CD-ROM. v Upgrades are available only from previously existing endpoint types to the same endpoint type. For example, there is no direct upgrade to a Tivoli Web Component Manager plus Quality of Service (QoS) endpoint, a configuration that is new with the latest release. To create the new configuration, you must uninstall the existing endpoint software and perform a fresh install with the latest release of the software. v You must successfully run a historical data collection job before performing this upgrade to avoid the loss of any log file data awaiting historical data collection. Refer to the Tivoli Web Services Manager User s Guide for instructions on creating historical data collection jobs. v You must upgrade each Internet Management Server and endpoint separately. v You must upgrade the Internet Management Server first. v Use Table 1 as a reference for determining which executable to run for your particular component, platform, and operating system. There are separate executables and associated.jar files available for the Internet Management Servers and endpoints. Table 1. Using the interactive upgrade procedure Perform the following procedure to upgrade a Tivoli Web Solutions installation on the UNIX platform using the interactive mode of installation: 1. Log in as the root user, or log in and become the root user on the machine you are upgrading. 2. Create an installation directory on your system. 3. Use the cd command to change to the installation directory. Note: Make sure that there is at least 80 MB of free hard disk space in the temp directory for the temporary files to be copied to the hard disk. 4. Expand the appropriate tar file in the installation directory. 5. Choose and run the appropriate executable. See Table 1 on page 1 to determine the appropriate executable. 6. Choose whether you want to upgrade a management server or an endpoint. v To upgrade an Internet Management Server, do the following: a. Enter the full path of the Internet Management Server directory. Note: The path is extremely important for the Internet Management Server upgrade because the upgrade must be able to open the property file located in the Internet Management Server directory. You must upgrade the Internet Management Server first and upgrade the endpoint separately if the endpoint resides on the same machine as the Internet Management Server. b. 9 v OR To upgrade an endpoint, the discovery software within the upgrade determines the type of software that you want to upgrade. You are prompted to enter the type of software that you want to upgrade only if the discovery software within the upgrade cannot determine the software previously installed. Note: If an endpoint resides on the same machine as the Internet Management Server, you must upgrade the Internet Management Server first and upgrade the endpoint separately. Using the silent upgrade procedure Perform the following procedure to upgrade a Tivoli Web Solutions installation on the UNIX platform: 1. Log in as the root user on the machine you are upgrading. 2. Create an installation directory on your system. 3. Use the cd command to change to the installation directory. Note: Make sure that there is at least 80 MB of free space in the temp directory for the temporary files to be copied to the hard disk. 4. Expand the appropriate tar file in the installation directory. See Table 1 on page 1 to determine the appropriate tar file. 5. Choose and run the appropriate executable using the -silent parameter. See Table 1 on page 1 for the appropriate executable. Note: Check the upgrade log file that is generated during the upgrade to verify that the silent upgrade succeeded. The log file is located in the base installation directory. If you suspect that the silent upgrade failed, check the upgrade log file generated during the upgrade for error messages. The log file is located in the base directory of the installation. Upgrading on the Windows NT platform You can upgrade installations on the Windows platform by using the interactive or the silent mode of installation from Windows Explorer. Using the interactive upgrade procedure from Windows NT Explorer To upgrade an Internet Management Server or any endpoint, complete the following steps after unzipping the upgrade zip file: Note: Upgrade QoS endpoints last because you must restart you system before they can function. 1. Log in as Administrator or as a user with Administrator privileges. Note: Make sure that there is at least 80 MB of free hard disk space for the temporary files that are copied to the hard disk. 2. Create an installation directory on your system. 3. Go to the Windows Start menu. 4. Select Run. Upgrade Notes 3

10 5. Click Browse Browse to the installation directory that you created in Step Unzip the appropriate zip file executables and associated jar files. See Table 1 on page 1 to determine the appropriate zip file. 8. Choose whether you want to upgrade a management server or an endpoint. v To upgrade an Internet Management Server, do the following: a. Enter the full path of the Internet Management Server directory. Note: The path is extremely important for the Internet Management Server upgrade because the upgrade must be able to open the property file located in the Internet Management Server directory. You must upgrade the Internet Management Server first and upgrade the endpoint separately if the endpoint resides on the same machine as the Internet Management Server. b. Press Enter. v OR To upgrade an endpoint, the discovery software within the upgrade determines the type of software that you want to upgrade. Using the silent upgrade procedure from Windows NT Explorer To perform a silent upgrade on the Windows NT platform, perform the following steps: Note: Upgrade QoS endpoints last because you must restart your system before they can function. 1. Log in as Administrator or as a user with Administrator privileges. Note: Make sure that there is at least 80 MB of free hard disk space for the temporary files that are copied to the hard disk. 2. Create an installation directory on your system. 3. Go to the Windows Start menu. 4. Select Run. 5. Click Browse Browse to the installation directory you created in Step Unzip the appropriate zip file executables and associated jar files. See Table 1 on page 1 to determine the appropriate zip file. 8. Select the appropriate zip file executable. 9. Click Open. 10. Go to the Windows Start menu. 11. 11 12. Move the cursor to the end of the command in the Open field and add a space. 13. Type -silent. 14. Click OK. Note: If you suspect that the silent upgrade failed, check the upgrade log file generated during the upgrade for error messages. The log file is located in the base directory of the installation. List of known defects and limitations This section describes the known defects and limitations associated with the upgrade to Tivoli Web Solutions, Version 1.7. The following table lists these limitations by category and describes workarounds. This list might not be complete. Table 2. Known defects and workarounds for the Tivoli Web Solutions Upgrade Description/Defect Workaround Synthetic Transaction Investigator playback in Tivoli Web Services Manager, Version 1.7, does not work with transactions recorded by the recorder in Version 1.6. A Version 1.7 Internet Management Server is not backward compatible with Version 1.6 endpoints. Version 1.7 endpoints are not backward compatible with a Version 1.6 Internet Management Server. The Version 1.7 upgrade installation does not check for minimum database versions before installing the code. (110866) You cannot uninstall the upgrade back to previous versions of the product. (111079) Systems upgraded from Version 1.6 to 1.7 lose all real-time events and report data generated by Version 1.6 jobs. (111194) The QoS upgrade fails to remove the old Global Security Kit (GSK). (110990) An endpoint upgrade on AIX fails to remove lslpp key information. (110992) When an upgraded QoS endpoint (Version 1.7) is uninstalled, the httpd and endpoint driver processes are not stopped. (111069) The uninstall process for QoS endpoint and management server on Solaris and AIX does not kill all http and Java processes. (111351) Record the transaction using the new Version 1.7 recorder or modify the old Extensible Markup Language (XML) file to be compatible with the new playback. Upgrade the endpoints that are already registered to the upgraded Internet Management Server. Upgrade the Internet Management Server to Version 1.7 for compatibility. Verify that your database version meets the minimum version requirements that are listed in the Tivoli Web Solutions Installation Guide, GC None. Task information is migrated properly. Jobs created in Version 1.6 run successfully after upgrading, so run them to generate new real-time data. None. Unregister AIX endpoints from the Internet Management Server before upgrading. Manually stop these processes using the Windows Task Manager. Perform a grep for all http processes: ps -ef grep http. When you can see which pids are using these processes (they show the path of the management server or endpoint), use the kill -9 command to kill the http processes. Do the same for the Java processes: ps -ef grep java. Upgrade Notes 5

Known defects and workarounds for the Tivoli Web Solutions Upgrade (continued) Description/Defect Workaround Tivoli Web Component Manager, Version 1.1.1, does not properly monitor Internet Information Services servers if the servers do not have the correct logging enabled. (110919) On the Windows NT platform, QoS graphic reports contain no data despite the fact that QoS data and events are reaching the Internet Management Server. A check of the error.log file on the management server shows the following error: [Thu Feb 07 19:13: ] [error][client ] File does not exist: c:/program files/tivoli/internet///managemen tserver/tomcat/webapps/root/webui /lib/com/klg/jclass/chart/applet/ JCGridLegendPropertyLoad.class Manually modify all Internet Information Services servers being monitored so that they use W3 Extended Logging. Enable logging of the following fields: v Date v Time v Client IP address v User Name v Method v URI Stem v URI Query v HTTP Status v Bytes Sent v User Agent v Referrer This error occurs if the endpoint computer or the Internet Management Server computer do not have a time zone set for the operating system, or a time zone preference set for the Internet Management Server. Set the time and time zone for the operating system, and then set the time zone preference on the management server (General Tasks User Preferences Change Time Zone) to match. (111255) When upgrading an AIX Web Services Investigator endpoint from Version 1.6 to Version 1.7, the following warning error appears during the installation: BMWISO528E Install failed: cp -p /usr/tivoli/websiteinvestigator/ /usr/tivoli/endpoint Clicking Ok closes the error dialog box and the installation continues successfully. (111359) Executing the uninstall on AIX endpoints and Internet Management Servers without also using smit leaves software inventory entries orphaned in smit. (111360) Ignore this false warning error. The installation will be successful. The error is mislabeled as a warning; it is supposed to be informational only. The error is caused by an orphaned link to the WebServicesInvestigator/IBMHttpSe rver/ibm/gsk/jre/lib/sparc/native _threads/libxm.so file. To avoid this error, remove this file before upgrading the endpoint. After running the uninstall.jar executable, use smit (System Management Interface Tool) to remove the orphaned entries. 6 Tivoli Web Solutions: Upgrade Notes
