1 Installing 2 ServerXchange Before you install EnsimServerXchange, be sure you have the necessary information and technology architecture. Much of this will be basic for you, but we have found that collecting and organizing this information before you begin speeds the installation process. This chapter contains checklists of: Information you need for the ServerXchange ControlCenter installation Information you need for physical server preparation (Solaris and Red Hat Linux) The steps involved in installing ServerXchange, with references to the ServerXchange User Guide for complete instructions Use the following checklists to assist you in gathering information before you begin installing ServerXchange. ServerXchange ControlCenter Installation Before installing ControlCenter, have the following information available. IP address: Full forward and reverse DNS entries are required. Default gateway: Subnet mask: Primary DNS: Installing ServerXchange 1

2 Secondary DNS: SMTP server address: An administrator s address for notification: FTP server IP address: FTP user name and password: Customer ID from your welcome letter: Customerpasswordfromyour welcome letter: Serial number from the back of the ControlCenter (look for a silver sticker): AppXchange password from your welcome letter: The AppXchange password is only needed after the registration for downloading and upgrading your Control Center. 3U of 19 inch rack space, 4post26"depth A monitor or serial terminal (optional) 2 Installing ServerXchange

3 Solaris Preparation Checklist Keyboard (optional) Outbound internet connectivity through the firewall on ports 22/80/443 for product registration/license update, and downloads of new suites or plans Solaris Preparation Checklist The minimum requirements for a Solaris Physical Server are: At least 128 MB of physical RAM At least 4GB ofdiskspace A clean install of Solaris7 (11/99 version) Do not install an older version of Solaris7 (such as 5/99) and then apply maintenance updates. AnEnd-UserDistributionwiththepackageSUNWhea(SunOSHeaderFiles) You can also install a Developer Distribution or higher (Full or Full with OEM) if you prefer. Install 64-bit support Only machines that are running OpenBoot PROM 3.11 or later will support 64-bit Solaris7. To determine if you have the correct type of Sun system, type in uname -m. Youmustseethe architecture designation sun4u. This includes any Sun Ultra (2,5,10, and so on) system and later. Installing ServerXchange 3

4 2 Installing ServerXchange When partitioning the disk, Ensim recommends the following, along with large drive partitions to store the private server file systems: Minimum 256 MB swap; more if space allows Please see Virtual Memory section regarding swap space allocation. Minimum 1.5 GB available in /usr Minimum 1 GB available in /var Solaris physical server checklist Before setting up the Solaris physical server, have the following information at hand. Root password: Valid user account: The account must have permissions to su-. Host name: IP address: Forward and reverse DNS entries are required. 5 Linux preparation checklist Secondary DNS: Type of hardware architecture for Sun platform: Once you have installed the server, use the following commands to verify that your physical server is ready to be registered with the ControlCenter. Command Successful (Y/N) Success Criteria prtdiag -v The PROM level should read 3.11 uname -m df -k showrev -p The result should be sun4u All partitions should appear with minimums listed at the beginning of this section. 6 2 Installing ServerXchange Red Hat 6.1 with a minimum of: Networked workstation package sharutils (or select Mail/WWW/News tools package) (Optional) Raid Device (must be supported during Red Hat installation) Red Hat 6.2 is not currently supported. 8 2 Installing ServerXchange Once you have installed the server, use the following commands to verify that your physical server is ready to be registered with the ControlCenter. Command rpm -qa grep sharutils uname -a df -kh Successful (Y/N) Success Criteria The sharutils package should be found on the system The Linux kernel level should read All partitions should appear with minimums listed at the beginning of this section Do not start the network by making changes to /etc/rc.d/rc.local. Instead, use Netconf, Linuxconf, or manually edit the network startup files. Checklist of ServerXchange installation steps The table below lists the steps involved in installing ServerXchange, with references to the ServerXchange User Guide, whereyouwillfindcomplete instructions. Step Review hardware and software system requirements for your environment. 9 Checklist of ServerXchange installation steps Step HaveyourCustomerIDand customer password available. (Assigned to you by Ensim) Review your firewall configuration requirementsforyourenvironment. Enter initial configuration data into the ServerXchange ControlCenter. You can enter data using a Palm device, by accessing the System Console, or by using a serial terminal. Register your new ControlCenter. Ensim provides a Web-based interface to help you register ControlCenter. You can connect to the registration interface using your Internet browser. Review (and modify, if necessary) the configuration data in your newly registered ControlCenter. Ensim provides a Web-based administration interface to help you manage your ControlCenter. You can connect to the administration interface using your Internet browser. Download and install OpCenter on your local system.
