About ServerXchange ServerXchange overview Ensim ServerXchange is the industry s most comprehensive hosting operations environment. It is designed to enable you the hosting provider, service provider, ASP, or data center operator to rapidly grow and efficiently operate large-scale Web and e-commerce hosting businesses. For simplicity, we will refer to Ensim ServerXchange as ServerXchange throughout this help. ServerXchange has all the tools you need to create a completely automated and integrated hosting provider environment. These tools include: A library of hosting applications, services, and suites of services that allows you to offer full-featured, easy to use hosted services. An intuitive graphical user interface that allows you to easily manage accounts, servers, and applications. A Command Line Interface, which lets you automate tasks such as adding customers, installing new software, and migrating customers between plans using scripts and commands you enter on a command line. A Web-based user interface that your customers and resellers can use to manage their hosting services. This interface empowers them to efficiently and easily control their own applications and frees your data center staff to concentrate on strategic matters. The patent pending Ensim Server Virtualization Software, which transforms common servers into MultiTenant Servers. This software allows you to partition a server into multiple virtual servers. These virtual servers, called Private Servers, have their own allocated disk, memory, network, and CPU resources as well as software applications. In addition, the ServerXchange hosting operating environment allows you to centrally set up and manage software Suites, Services, and Packages, and it allows you to easily access Ensim AppXchange and its pipeline of hosting software and upgrades. At every critical step in the process of provisioning and managing your hosting services, you can customize ServerXchange to meet the needs of your existing systems. This means you can integrate ServerXchange with your current billing, domain name registration, IP address allocation, and DNS updating procedures, and it makes ServerXchange the most powerful hosting operating environment available. 17

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x Tenant Server 35

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x New features of 3.x ServerXchange 3.x provides all the features of earlier versions of ServerXchange, as well as some enhancements. Most notable among enhancements are: Improved design of the graphical user interface for hosting providers. ServerXchange now combines the functionality of the OpCenter and the ControlCenter into one Web-based graphical user interface for hosting service providers: the Server & Application Manager. This eliminates the need to download and install dual interfaces, and it provides easier access to ServerXchange features. Improved design of the graphical user interface for customers. The Customer Account Manager interface has been redesigned. The new Customer Account Manager interface eliminates the need for your customers to download and install a user interface, and it provides easier access to the customer account features. Expanded logs. Through the Server & Application Manager and the Command Line Interface, users can access logs of all the actions performed and events that take place on ServerXchange. This allows hosting providers to monitor ServerXchange and the servers they manage more closely. Multiple administrative levels for the hosting provider interface (Server & Application Manager). ServerXchange 3.0 and above provides two levels of administrative accounts for the Server & Application Manager interface: Superuser and System administrator. When logged in at the Superuser level, users have read and write access to all features. When logged in at the Sys admin level, users cannot change other administrators' account information or create Superuser accounts, but they can perform other tasks, including adding servers. Updated support for operating system installation. ServerXchange improves the Kickstart process of installing operating systems on servers. Kickstart can be performed through the Server & Application Manager. Kickstart installation is not supported for Windows 2003 servers. New application management support. ServerXchange simplifies the management of software applications, including Suites, Services, and Packages through the Server & Application Manager interface and the Command Line Interface. New Command Line Interface. It provides an XML-based Command Line Interface for improved scripting control of ServerXchange. Built-in search capability. The Server & Application Manager and Customer Account Manager interfaces have built-in search capability on pages with lists of 36

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x information, making it easier to locate specific servers, accounts, actions, and applications. 37

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x Differences between 3.x and previous versions If you have used versions of ServerXchange prior to 3.x, you can migrate your servers and accounts to 3.x easily, since 3.x is compatible with previous versions of ServerXchange. Because of new features and enhancements, however, the way you perform tasks has changed significantly. The most obvious enhancement is the combination of the OpCenter and the ControlCenter into one interface called the Server & Application Manager. This eliminates the need to download and install dual interfaces, and it provides easier access to ServerXchange features. Using this browser-based interface, you can perform all the tasks required to use ServerXchange. This section describes new processes for common tasks including: Registering Physical Servers Creating Private Servers Installing Suites and Services Removing Suites and Services Adding customers Assigning servers to customers Viewing service status Registering Physical Servers In previous versions of ServerXchange, you used the Adding New Physical Server Wizard in the OpCenter to install the ServerXchange operating environment onto a Physical Server. Then you registered the server with ServerXchange. You used pulldown menus or dragged and dropped information. In ServerXchange 3.0 and above, each type of server has its own wizard. Using a wizard, you provide information about the server, such as its host name and IP address and specify the server's properties. When you complete the wizard, the ServerXchange software is installed on the server and the server is registered with ServerXchange. There are three types of Physical Servers you can add to ServerXchange: Dedicated Servers MultiTenant Servers Hosting appliances Dedicated Servers Physical Servers whose resources are dedicated to a single use or tenant are now called Dedicated Servers. Dedicated Servers have ServerXchange management software installed, but do not use Ensim Server Virtualization Software. They are not 38

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x configured for multitenancy, and they cannot be partitioned into multiple Private Servers. Servers that meet the Windows, Linux, or Solaris requirements can be registered as Dedicated Servers. MultiTenant Servers Physical Servers that have Linux operating systems can be registered with ServerXchange as MultiTenant Servers. These servers use Ensim Server Virtualization Software that allows them to be partitioned into multiple Private Servers. Each Private Server or tenant on a MultiTenant Server, has its own hosted environment as well as its own allocated disk, memory, network, and CPU resources. Servers used as MultiTenant Servers must have operating systems installed that meet the Linux requirements. In ServerXchange 3.x, MultiTenant Servers cannot use Windows or Solaris operating systems. Hosting appliances Physical Servers that are used for core Web hosting services, such as Cobalt Servers or servers with Ensim WEBppliance installed, can be registered as hosting appliances. You cannot install applications on hosting appliances, but you can use ServerXchange to monitor their status. Creating Private Servers On ServerXchange 3.x, you create a Private Server by supplying server information, such as host name and IP address on forms in the Add Private Server wizard. As with previous versions of ServerXchange, you need to add the MultiTenant Server on which the Private Server will reside before you can create a Private Server. In ServerXchange 3.x, however, you do not need to create a customer account before creating a Private Server. With ServerXchange 3.x, Private Servers can be created only on MultiTenant Servers that have Linux operating systems. At this time, MultiTenant Servers cannot use Solaris operating systems. About non-billable servers In previous versions of ServerXchange, Private Servers that were marked as nonbillable could not be started. In ServerXchange 3.x, non-billable servers can be started, and they are not limited in their functionality. You can perform the same tasks on non-billable servers that you can perform on billable servers. Installing Suites and Services 39

Changes in ServerXchange 3.x In previous versions of ServerXchange, you could install Appliances, Suites, and Services onto managed servers. In ServerXchange 3.x, you can install Suites and Services; the term Appliance is no longer used. To install applications in previous versions of ServerXchange, you dragged-anddropped applications or used a menu bar in an installation wizard. There were two wizards: the Adding New Suite Wizard and the Adding New Service Wizard. In ServerXchange 3.x, you use one wizard, the Install Applications wizard, to select and install both Suites and Services onto a server. Removing Suites and Services In previous versions of ServerXchange, you used the OpCenter to remove the Services installed on servers. You selected the Service you wanted to remove, then you right clicked and chose Remove from the popup menu. In ServerXchange 3.x, you go to the server's uninstall page, choose the Suites and Services you want to remove, and click a button in the interface to uninstall them. See uninstalling applications for instructions. Adding customers In previous versions of ServerXchange, you used the Adding New Customer Wizard to add customer accounts. In ServerXchange 3.x, you simply go to the Add New Customer section and complete the Add Customer form. Assigning servers to customers In previous versions of ServerXchange, you used the OpCenter to assign servers to customers. First, you created a customer account, then you used the Adding New Physical Server Wizard to add a server and assign it to the customer. In ServerXchange 3.x, you can use the Server & Application Manager to assign servers to customers when you create them with the add server wizard. In addition, you can create a server without assigning it to a customer, then assign the server to a customer by editing the server's properties later. Viewing service status In ServerXchange 3.x, you can view the current status of services, such as Ping, that are used to monitor server status. 40

Categories About Categories Categories overview The categories feature allows you to organize your servers and customer accounts to make them easier to find. You can create categories, assign your servers or customers to them, and then view your servers or customers by category. This feature is especially useful if you manage many servers or customer accounts; it allows you to view them in groups instead of by searching through the main servers' or customers' lists. For example, you could create the category BigTime for the customer BigTimeHosting, then add all of BigTimeHosting's servers to it. When you want to view only Big Time Hosting's servers, you would go to the Categories section, then choose the category BigTime. All of BigTimeHosting's servers would be displayed. The categories feature makes it easy for you to find servers and customer accounts you want to monitor or manage as a group. How to use categories and subcategories First you create a category, then you add your servers or add your customers to it. You can add as many categories and subcategories as you need, change categories or delete categories when necessary, and add or remove servers or remove customers from categories as needed. Hierarchy of categories You can think of categories existing in a tree-like hierarchy, with the category Root, which is set up by default, as the root of the tree. All servers and customers are added to the Root category when they are added to ServerXchange. You cannot delete the category Root, and you cannot remove items from it. You can create categories as subcategories of Root, and you can create subcategories within those subcategories as needed. For example, you could create two subcategories under the Root category: one called Evaluation and another called Production. Under each subcategory, you could create categories called BigTimefor your customer BigTimeHosting.com. You could add all of BigTimeHosting's production servers to the subcategory BigTime under the Production category, and you could add all of BigTimeHosting's evaluation servers to the subcategory BigTime under the Evaluation category. This would allow 53

Categories you to view all of BigTimeHosting's production or evaluation servers as groups, instead of searching for them on the main server list. To view all of BigTimeHosting's production servers, you would go to the Categories section, then choose the category BigTime under the category Production. At the top of the Categories List, the category path would look like this: Root>Production>Big Time. To return to the Root category, you would click Root in the category path. Note: Adding a server to a category does not change the server's properties or remove it from the main server list under the Servers tab. How to get to the categories section. 54
