1 Ensim ServerXchange Release Notes/Upgrade Guide March 19, 2003 Introduction These release notes provide information about Ensim ServerXchange and instructions for accessing Ensim ServerXchange by either performing a new installation or by upgrading from the earlier version (that is, Ensim ServerXchange 3.1.4). ServerXchange features ServerXchange offers the following new features: Kickstart support for Red Hat Linux 7.3 servers ServerXchange provides kickstart support for Red Hat Linux 7.3 servers. Kickstart allows you to create operating system installation diskettes with your target operating system and settings, then use those diskettes to install Linux operating systems on servers in your network to prepare them to be managed by ServerXchange. 2 Upgrade support for Red Hat Linux 7.1 servers ServerXchange provides upgrade support for Red Hat Linux 7.1 Private Servers and Dedicated Servers. You can now upgrade them to Red Hat Linux 7.3. Upgrade support for Red Hat Linux 7.2 servers ServerXchange provides upgrade support for Red Hat Linux 7.2 Private Servers and Dedicated Servers. You can now upgrade them to Red Hat Linux 7.3. Suite support for Private Server applications The applications that are installed while creating a Private Server using Red Hat Linux 7.3 are now available as a suite. Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.5 and later Netscape, version 4.7 and later Note: The user interface is best viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.5 and later at a 800 X 600 screen resolution. 3 Before you install Before you install ServerXchange 3.1.5, verify that you are using ServerXchange If you are using an earlier version of ServerXchange, you will need to upgrade to version Refer to the guides at for more information. Note: The page is password-protected. Log on using your Ensim AppXchange user name and password. The following list includes all available guides. Step 1: Backing up ServerXchange Step 2: Obtaining ServerXchange from AppXchange Step 3: Installing ServerXchange Step 1: Backing up ServerXchange Obtain a recent backup of ServerXchange before you begin the upgrade process. You will need the backup if you want to revert to a previous version of ServerXchange after the upgrade. ENSIM SERVERXCHANGE RELEASE NOTES/UPGRADE GUIDE 3

4 Step 2: Obtaining ServerXchange from AppXchange You are now ready to obtain the latest version of ServerXchange (version 3.1.5) from AppXchange. Procedure: To obtain ServerXchange from AppXchange: 1 Connect to AppXchange. In the Links area, click AppXchange. or Click Administration on the left navigation bar, click the Maintenance tab, and click Connect to AppXchange (under the Registered Patches list). 2 Enter the AppXchange user name and password assigned to you by Ensim and click Log in. The Ensim AppXchange interface opens in a new browser window. 3 In the ServerXchange Patches area, click View. The list of available patches displays. 4 In the Select column, select the ServerXchange Patch check box and click Add selected items to cart. 5 Go back to the Ensim AppXchange interface. 6 In the Services area, click View. The list of available services displays. 7 In the Select column, select the Ensim Base Services 7.1-7, 7.2-9, and and click Add selected items to cart. 8 Verify that ServerXchange Patch and the Ensim Base Services 7.1-7, 7.2-9, and display on the screen, then click Download to download this list. 9 Review the license agreement and click Agree. The selected files are downloaded. Action information and a progress report are displayed. 10 When the action completes successfully, click Done below the progress report, then log out of AppXchange by clicking Logout in the upper right of the home page. Alternatively, you can log out of AppXchange before the download is complete, and continue to check the download status using the login provided by your service provider. Click Status, then click Action Log to view the download log report. Once the download is complete, you are ready to install ServerXchange ENSIM SERVERXCHANGE RELEASE NOTES/UPGRADE GUIDE 4

5 Step 3: Installing ServerXchange You can now install ServerXchange Procedure: To install ServerXchange 3.1.5: 1 Verify that ServerXchange is not performing any other operation. ServerXchange will not start the installation if other operations are active. To review a list of in-progress operations, click Status on the left navigation bar, then review the action log for entries that have a green dot. The green dot indicates that the action is running. Wait for the action to complete before you proceed to the next step. 2 Click Administration on the left navigation bar. 3 Click the Maintenance tab. You will find all patch downloads in the Registered Patches list. 4 Click in the Action column of the Registered Patches list. Confirming the installation ServerXchange shuts down temporarily while it applies the patch, and restarts when the process is complete. When done, confirm the installation by accessing the Upgrade page > Component Versions list and checking the version number that displays next to ServerXchange. Upgrading to ServerXchange This section includes instructions on upgrading to ServerXchange and covers the following topics. Upgrading an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange on page 5 Upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.1 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3 on page 7 Upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.2 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3 on page 8 Upgrading an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange Upgrading an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange involves the following two steps. Step 1: Installing rpm on the MultiTenant Server Step 2: Upgrading the MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange ENSIM SERVERXCHANGE RELEASE NOTES/UPGRADE GUIDE 5

6 Step 1: Installing rpm on the MultiTenant Server To ensure that rpm (or later) is installed on the MultiTenant Server, you must upgrade the MultiTenant Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 or Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system. Procedure: To upgrade the MultiTenant Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 or Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system: 1 Verify that you have downloaded the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 (Ensim Base Service or later) or Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system (Ensim Base Service or later) from AppXchange. See step 7 on page-4. 2 Connect to ServerXchange Click Servers on the left navigation bar. 4 Click the Servers tab. 5 Under the Servers tab, click MultiTenant. 6 From the MultiTenant Server list, click the Host Name of the MultiTenant Server to be upgraded. The MultiTenant Server Overview page opens. 7 From the MultiTenant Server overview page, click Edit. 8 From the Edit Server page, click the Upgrade tab. 9 Under the Upgrade tab, click the Upgrade Distribution link. 10 Choose the latest version of the currently installed Red Hat Linux base file system on the MultiTenant server and click through the steps of the Upgrade Base Distribution wizard. Note: It is not necessary to select the Reboot after Install check-box. The MultiTenant Server is upgraded to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 or Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system.

7 Step 2: Upgrading the MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange After upgrading to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 or Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system, you can upgrade the MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange This will not cause a server restart if you are upgrading from ServerXchange 3.1.4, but it will cause a server restart if you are upgrading from earlier versions of ServerXchange. Upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.1 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3 Before upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.1 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3, rpm (or later) must be installed on the Private Server. To ensure that rpm is installed on the Private Server, upgrade the Private Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 base file system. Procedure: To upgrade the Private Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 base file system: 1 Upgrade an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange See Upgrading an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange on page 5. 2 Verify that you have downloaded the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 base file system (Ensim Base Service or later) from AppXchange. See step 7 on page-4. 3 Connect to ServerXchange Click Servers on the left navigation bar. 5 Click the Servers tab. Under the Servers tab, click Private Servers. 6 From the Private Server list, click the Host Name of the Private Server to be upgraded. 7 From the Private Server overview page, click the Applications tab. 8 Under the Applications tab, click the Upgrade Distribution link. 9 Choose the latest Red Hat Linux 7.1 version. If no version of Red Hat Linux 7.1 is shown, then the Private Server is already at the latest version. 8 Upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.2 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3 Before upgrading a Red Hat Linux 7.2 Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3, rpm (or later) must be installed on the Private Server. To ensure that rpm is installed on the Private Server, upgrade the Private Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.2 Linux base file system. Procedure: To upgrade the Private Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system: 1 Upgrade an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange See Upgrading an existing MultiTenant Server to ServerXchange on page 5. 2 Verify that you have downloaded the latest Red Hat Linux 7.2 base file system (Ensim Base Service or later) from AppXchange. See step 7 on page-4. 3 Connect to ServerXchange Click Servers on the left navigation bar. 5 Click the Servers tab. Under the Servers tab, click Private Servers. 6 From the Private Server list, click the Host Name of the Private Server to be upgraded. 7 From the Private Server overview page, click the Applications tab. 8 Under the Applications tab, click the Upgrade Distribution link. 9 Choose the latest Red Hat Linux 7.2 version. If no version of Red Hat Linux 7.2 is shown, then the Private Server is already at the latest version. After upgrading the Private Server to the latest Red Hat Linux 7.2 file system, you can upgrade the Private Server to Red Hat Linux 7.3.
