2 Introduction Tek-Flex 4100B is Two-wire Loop-powered OEM TDR Level Trnsmitter designed for mesuring distnce, level, volume, nd mss of liquids nd solids (including pstes, slurries, powders, grnultes nd bulk goods etc). Its simple nd compct design llows quick 2-step instlltion- ssembling the probe nd ttching, it to the threded connection. It s bsed on Time Domin Reflexometry (TDR) which is n excellent lterntive to conventionl level mesurement techniques such s RF, cpcitnce, conductive, nd DP trnsmitters. It provides cost effective solution for pplictions tht do not require supreme ccurcy. TDR is extremely robust technology in which the device performnce is unffected by severl externl fctors such s dust, fom, vpour, gitted surfces, boiling surfces nd chnges in pressure, temperture, dielectric constnt, or density. Mesuring Principle The Two-wire Loop-powered OEM TDR Level Trnsmitter works on proven technology of Time Domin Reflexometry (TDR). In TDR, the meter trnsmits n incident signl onto the conductor nd listens for its reflections. Using the vlues of the speed of light nd hlf of the time lpse between the incident nd reflected signls, TDR clcultes the distnce of the product from the top of the continer. 3 Opertion The ssembly consists of 1. Aluminum housing with optionl LCD disply 2. Converter - rottble nd removble under process conditions 3. Threded connection (NPT or G) 4. Cble or coxil probe 5. 2-wire loop-powered level meter The device trnsmits low-mplitude, high frequency electromgnetic pulses long rigid or flexible electrode. The pulses propgte long the electrode towrds the level surfce t the speed of light. These pulses re reflected bck when they hit the surfce of the product being mesured nd re received by the receiving module. The device mesures the time tken by the pulse to trvel to-nd-from the product. Hlf of this time is equivlent to the distnce from reference point to the product surfce. The time is converted into equivlent output current of 4 to 20mA. The product level from the bottom of the tnk or continer cn be esily determined knowing the speed of light nd time tken by the wve to trvel the distnce. The optionl LCD cn be ordered long with the device or seprtely s n ccessory. The disply shows mesurement dt on pixel screen. It s esy to instll nd requires no clibrtion. All you need is to dpt the probe length s per the ppliction requirement (continer depth, type of fluid) nd execute short configurtion procedure. Solid Level Meter Mesures level of solids (powders, grnultes etc) involved in vriety of pplictions like silos in griculture or mining industry. Typiclly, the meter consists of 0.15 ft/0.15" single cble probe for silos up to 2.73 ft/32.8" high. It requires no clibrtion. Adjust the probe length nd execute short configurtion procedure. Volume Meter It uses strpping tble function in configurtion menu for clculting volume from mesured level. Up to 30 volume vlues cn be predefined by using the prmeters like number of steps, tnk height, re of cross section nd type of solid. Ech step/ level indictes prticulr volume. 8 Instlltion The Tek-Flex 4100B hs threded connections for esy mounting of the probe on tnk roof or nozzle using flnges. Ensure tht the trnsmitter is mounted with dequte service spce for esy ccess to service technicins. Determine the probe length. Select position where the influence of disturbing objects is the minimum. Instll the probe when silo or tnk is empty. Avoid mounting the probe ner inlet pipes or heting coils. Avoid bending the probe. Anchor the probe t the bottom of the tnk in cse of turbulent tnks. This prevents the probe from hitting the tnk wlls or other objects in the tnk.
