3 USGS/EROS: Emergency Response Overview Liaison Activities Remote sensing image coordination Provide 24x7 on-call support and coordination for remotely sensed image access, acquisition, and distribution for emergency response Facilitate the collection and hosting of pre- and post-event imagery for Federal, State, Tribal, and local response organizations Support the identification of data, information, and services for potential coordinated use and sharing across the response community Provide USGS representation and operational support to the International Charter Space and Major Disasters Operations Activities Event support: Create and manage the HDDS events, search and monitor for available imagery, and assure that appropriate data is ingested and available for supported events. Assist data providers in transfer and data sharing via HDDS. Maintain and operate the HDDS, CMT, and other public interfaces: Hazards Data Distribution System (HDDS) Collection Management Tool (CMT)
4 USGS Emergency Response: Operational Flow Collection Management Tool (CMT) End Users Requirements Requirements Interactive map-based tool for submitting image requirements Enter and monitor Data Acquisition Requests (DARs) View public DARs (including AOIs) submitted by other users Triggers the USGS emergency event support Provides automated notification as imagery is collected Includes DAR management and status communications EO Technical Support Create HDDS event Identify relevant data sources Search and monitor available datasets Submit tasking requests EO Ingest System (EIS) Standardized product format (GeoTIFF) Consistent and searchable metadata Georeferenced browse and metadata files (shp, kml, csv, etc. ) Hazards Data Distribution System (HDDS): Storage and access for USGS-hosted response datasets Interactive Map-based Portal ( HDDS Explorer ) Two access categories (Public or Restricted) GIS Services (WMS on-demand) Bulk download and bulk media options API Services (Machine-to-Machine) Image Download Disaster Response Community
5 Hazards Data Distribution System (HDDS) Data Holdings: ~395 TB representing over 9.6 million files Public: 262 TB (8.9+ million files) Restricted: 177 TB (1.3+ million files) 2017 events (CYTD): 35 events (20 US, 15 non-us) Data Distribution: 65,000+ files distributed to the disaster response community over the past 12 months. HDDS Features: Interactive map-based interface (search by event, location, date) Metadata export in multiple formats (e.g. CSV, KML, SHP, etc.) Standing request (SR) notification service Notifications for newly ingested data (RSS feed, Twitter, and ) Direct image download access (full bands, immediate access) On-demand WMS delivery (pre-composited layers) Bulk Download Application (BDA) for streaming capability via web-based utility Bulk Media option for large volume requests or low-bandwidth users Machine-to-machine (API) for approved users
