30 How to Start Working in BIM 1. Spend lot s of money on computers & software 2. Hire & or train your production people 3. Assign a BIM manager and create a BIM guideline 4. Convert your symbols to Revit families (Time Consuming) 5. Review the clients BIM standards and set project expectations 6. Compare your Revit 2D product to your AutoCAD 2D product 7. Download the Revit model and start working 8. Attend regular BIM coordination meetings 9. Upload the Revit model to architect and team for coordination 30

31 Revit Tips Our Experience 1. Create families that are generic and simple 2. Plan additional time to complete and review projects initially 3. Test you 2D rendering don t assume WYSIWYG 4. Decide whether details will remain 2D or will you work in 3D 5. Plan your schedules in advance and insure you have room, door #, device tagging information that is required 6. Work out coordination routine with other members of MEP team, through Architect or direct if required 7. Negotiate the final coordination process with architect (RCP and elevation standards are critical) 8. Use DWF for all editing and design reviews 31
