Project Titleblock Setup In this section we will show an overview of the settings and setup of the project titleblock. Some of these settings will be found in the project using the Properties palette and some of the settings will require you to update the titleblock family. Titleblock Parameters The titleblock has Instance and type based parameters built into it. Let s look at the Instance based parameters first, these parameters are going to control what you see on the titleblock. Later in the document we will go into the detail of how to customize the graphics of what is shown. Side Border Lines Depending on your needs you might not need the additional lines on the side of titleblock. By unchecking this option it will give you additional room to add items. 4 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

North Arrow This gives you control on the North Arrow family that is loaded into the project. We will talk more later in the document on changing this family so that True North is displayed correctly. Key Plan These three options will give the ability to show the key plan and what part of the building is being shown on the sheet. By check marking what you need the titleblock will update accordingly. Later in the document we will go through the sequence customizing the key plan so it matches the shape of the building. Show Guides/Grid The last three options are guides/grid for placement of either legends or views that are placed on the sheet. Legends can be placed either on the left or at the bottom of the titleblock and will help with alignment. The Show Grid will help when placing single or multiple views on a sheet and numbering the title mark correctly. NOTE: All of the above parameters are Instance based, so when changing any these parameters it only affects that sheet. 5 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Page Office Location At the top left of the titleblock is the Page address for the titleblock. By selecting the titleblock and choosing Edit Type on the Properties palette you have an option of changing the office location. Seal/Stamp The titleblock has the ability to show the seal/stamp and is controlled by choosing 4 different options in the Type Properties. You find these options by selecting the titleblock and choosing Edit Type on the Properties palette. By default it is a family called ANNO-Stamp-Replace with your stamp, choose ANNO-Seals-Blank (very bottom of the list) to get an idea of how the parameters work. NOTE: Depending on the state that you are in depends if this can be part of the titleblock or not. In Texas this method is accepted so notice the parameters for Seal Date Visible and Seal Issue Date. If your state does not work with this method than use the parameter Sho Seal or Stamp and turn Off this part of the titleblock. Bluebeam is also starting to be used for the Seal/Stamp process, once this process is more established we will update this document. NOTE: Since these are Type Parameters all of your sheets that are using this type have now been updated. Also note that you can duplicate the Architectural Type for other disciplines if needed. 6 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Customization of Titleblock Items This section goes over on how to customize certain titleblock items in the titleblock family. We will look at how to customize the Seal/Stamp portion of the titleblock. Adding a custom key plan to the titleblock and having control on showing certain areas of the key plan. We will also go over how to customize the north arrow for the titleblock when the two options that are available do fit your needs. Customize Seal/Stamp To customize the Seal/Stamp you will need first take the titleblock family and save it to your project family folder. This can found on P:\Project Name-Number\D-Revit\ARCH\Families\Titleblocks. With the project titleblock family opened go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon and choose Load Family. For Architectural Stamp/Seal browse to the drive (COLOSSUS): K:\Revit 2014\ARCH\PSP CONTENT\Imperial Library\Title Blocks and choose one of the seals/stamp. The stamps will start with ANNO-Stamp-?? and seals will start with ANNO-Seals-??. For MEP Stamp/Seal browse to K:\Revit2014\MEP\PSP Content\Engineer Seals. MEP uses either the ANNO-Seals-TX-Engineers.rfa or ANNO-Stamp-IR-RD-Engineers.rfa. The MEP has a nested ANNO- Seals-TX-PE-SealText.rfa in it that has everyone s registration info and can be used in both families. MEP can all share one seal family because of the layout of the graphic, unlike Architecture. NOTE: If you find that your name is missing from this list, than Michelle K. Northington: mnorthington@pagethink.com and she can add you. MEP can add an image file like a jpg for the signature and a date label. You must do a Save As once you add your image file otherwise it will show up in every type. This is because MEP will need to have multiple seals in one model when they have a combined M+E+P model. Hence, you will have a MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, and PLUMBIMG type in the titleblock. 7 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

The stamp/seal does not need to be on the drawing window, it just needs to be loaded into the titleblock family. So just place it off to the side when you first bring it in, do not delete the existing seal/stamp that is shown in the titleblock. Select the inserted stamp/seal and on the Properties palette pick on Associate Family Parameter under Graphics Visible, choose Sho Seal or Stamp and pick Ok. With the stamp/seal still selected on the Options Bar choose the Label drop-down and select Stamp Options <Generic Annotations>. The new stamp will swap to the current default, now delete it. 8 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

To make sure it is working correctly go to the Create tab on the Ribbon and select the Family Types tool. Change the Stamp Options <Generic Annotations> drop-down to the family that you just updated. Pick on the Ok button and you should notice the stamp changes to what you selected. If you need multiple seal/stamps from different disciplines then in the Family Types choose New and give it the appropriate name. Now choose the seal/stamp that goes with it and pick on the Apply button. Once in the project this titleblock can be updated per sheet to the titleblock type to show the correct seal/stamp. NOTE: If you want to automate the Seal Issue Date you could use the Current Revision Date parameter using the Label tool in the titleblock family. Understand this would require you to delete the Seal Issue Date Label in the seal family. Also, the date format will be different using this method. 9 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Customize the Key Plan In the titleblock there is a family for the key plan that will need to be customized for the project. Before going through those steps we need to first generate a clean DWG of the shell of the building. Choose a level and working view that best represents the overall building shape. NOTE: In a more complicated project where you have different outlines and areas per level. We would recommend creating multiple Key Plan families for these different levels. This method gives you the ability to easily select the different families to edit them but will require more visibility parameters. Using Hide in View choose either Elements or Categories so the shell of the building and Matchlines are only shown. You will probably need to set the View Template on the Properties palette back to None for this to happen. We can now use the view to create the key plan outline. Go to the Application Menu -> Export ->CAD Formats -> DWG, pick on Next, uncheck Export views on sheets and links as external references, and now go to the folder where you want to store it and name it. 10 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Back in the titleblock family pick on the existing key plan and on the Ribbon choose Edit Family. On the Ribbon select the Insert tab and choose Import CAD, at the bottom of the dialog box change the settings if needed, shown are recommended. You will need to do a Zoom Extents since the floor plan came in at actual size. Select the floor plan and use the Scale to resize the floor plan so it is about the size of the original. Step #1 is the origin point of the scale which is near the original key plan. Step #2 is the outer edge of the shell of the building. For step #3 you will need zoom in close to the original key plan to pick a point. 11 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

You might need to scale it a few more times to make it fit the key plan area. On the sheet it is 5 wide and 4 tall, the border of the key plan is not in the family so you will need to draw some lines to have an idea of fitment. Now start the line tool and trace the inserted DWG for the shell of the building. Also develop the linework for the different wings of the building. NOTE: Make sure to use the Key Plan Subcategory when drawing the lines. Now resize or redraw the separate Filled Regions for the different wings of the building. Use the Filled Region Type called Solid Grey. Copy or Move the Text around to label the different wings of the building. 12 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

The next item is building the different Parameters to control the Filled Regions that you just built. Depending on the sheet it will depend on which wing of the building needs to be highlighted in the key plan. NOTE: In 2015 we can finally reorder the parameters so when you are in the project it is easy to find and read the custom parameters that you built. With the parameters created we need to link the filled regions to them. This way when someone checks or unchecks one of the Area parameters it will turn Off the appropriate filled region in the key plan. Select the Filled Region, on the Properties palette pick Associate Family Parameters button and choose the appropriate Area parameter and pick Ok. 13 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Make sure to delete the key plan border lines that you drew early. Use the Load into Project to load the new key plan into the titleblock. When asked about overwrite use the option to include the parameters to make sure everything is reset to how you have it in the key plan family. One of the final pieces of the puzzle is creating the additional parameters to link to the parameters that were built in the key plan. With the parameters created we need to link the filled regions to them just like we did last time. This way when someone checks or unchecks one of the Area parameters it will turn Off the appropriate filled region in the key plan. 14 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Select the key plan and on the Properties palette select Edit Type. Select one of the Area parameters and pick on the Associate Family Parameter button and choose the appropriate Area parameter. Once done, on the Ribbon choose Load into Project and check mark your project to load it in. Again choose to overwrite the existing version and its parameters. Select the titleblock and look at the parameters in the Properties palette. These are instance based parameters so the changes are only happening in the sheet that you are in. 15 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Customize North Arrow The current north arrow only has two options setup in the family, north being straight up or north being 45 degrees. You can see these options by selecting the north symbol and on the Properties palette choose Edit Type. If neither option works for you then you will need to update the north arrow family. Select the north arrow and on the Ribbon choose Edit Family. In the north arrow family select the thin north arrow line and Rotate so it is pointing in the correct direction. Select the True North text and move it accordingly. 16 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

In the Family Types dialog box, rename True North 45 Degrees so it better matches the new direction of true north. Once done, on the Ribbon choose Load into Project and check mark your titleblock to load it in. Again choose to overwrite the existing version and its parameters. NOTE: If you decide to use a different north arrow family make sure to select it and on the Options Bar choose North Arrow Type<Generic Annotations>. In the titleblock, if you updated the existing north arrow you need to select it and in the Properties palette select Edit Type. Choose the new updated parameter so your true north is showing correctly. 17 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Once done, on the Ribbon choose Load into Project and check mark your project to load it in. This time Revit might ask about overwriting sub-component family choose to overwrite the existing version. If the north arrow symbol does not update correctly in the project, hover over the north arrow and use the Tab Key to select it. Now use the Properties palette and select Edit type to change the parameter so the true north is shown correctly. 18 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Sheet Index In this section we will go over the different options for the sheet index. Page has four working schedules to help you modify and fill in the information that is needed for the sheets. Original Issue Info (Not Itemized) On each sheet there are two instance parameters that controls date and description. Instead of going sheet to sheet to change these two instance parameter you can instead use the *WORKING INDEX OF DRAWINGS - ORIGINAL ISSUE INFO (NOT ITEMIZED) schedule to change all them at once. In the example below you are changing 69 sheets all at once. Once the sheets have been issued for construction you probably have new sheets added for revisions. This is why the two parameters are instance based, on the new sheets you will simply change the issue date and description instance parameters right on the sheet which will not affect all of your other sheets. Sorting Index of Drawings The schedule named ARCHITECTURAL - INDEX OF DRAWINGS is the schedule that you will see on the sheet. This will show the sheet number, title, original issue date, and last revision date. The schedule is sorted a certain way so the index is coming out based on Page s standards. 19 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

The sorting of the schedule is looking at DISCIPLINE NO, DISCIPLINE, SHEET ORDER, and SHEET NO. To help with getting these parameters set correctly we will use a working schedule called *WORKING INDEX OF DRAWINGS - SHEET ORDER & DISCIPLINE. Using the DISCIPLINE NO column controls the order of the DISCIPLINE name that you see in the schedule. We have to do it this way since Revit wants to sort based on alphabetic order. Since we want GENERAL to be in front of ARCHITECTURAL we had to set the DISCIPLINE NO to 00 for GENERAL. NOTE: ARCHITECTURAL starts at 09 because we know there will be other disciplines in front of it once the project moves forward. NOTE: If you need multiple package sets then you can add the field called Volume Package to the sheet index. You can then order the drawings based on the package set that you need using this parameter. Have this parameter as your first column in the schedule and use 1, 2, 3, etc. to group the packages. NOTE: You will need to duplicate the existing sheet index schedule so you can customize the schedule so it only shows the package you need. You can use a filter to do this, see below. 20 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Notice that SHEET ORDER is before the column for SHEET NO, at Page we group the sheet numbers together which sometimes Revit s alphabetic order would disrupt this method. Take note the ARCHITECTURAL sheets start with A-001 but then goes to AS-101, and then AD-101, this is why we have the SHEET ORDER column first and then the SHEET NO. Adding DWG Sheets to Index As the project progresses other disciplines need to be added to the sheet index. Not all disciplines are in Revit so let s look at how to add those sheets to the index. We have another working schedule called *WORKING INDEX OF DRAWINGS - DISCIPLINE NO to help us add those type of sheets to the index. On the Ribbon use the Insert Data Row to add an additional row to the schedule. For this example we are adding sheets from landscape which are in AutoCAD. Landscape has 10 sheets that need to be added to our sheet index so we will need to select the Insert Data Row 10 times. 21 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

We will need to go back to working schedule called *WORKING INDEX OF DRAWINGS - SHEET ORDER & DISCIPLINE to add the additional information for SHEET ORDER, SHEET NO, and SHEET NAME. Adding Last Revision (Globally) In the ARCHITECTURAL - INDEX OF DRAWINGS schedule you will see LAST REVISION for the last column. This parameter needs to be updated by us and is not automatically filled in by Revit. To do this we have another working schedule called *WORKING INDEX OF DRAWINGS - REVISION DATE (NOT ITEMIZED) that helps us populate the LAST REVISED DATE (MANUAL). The above image shows 1 revision date (12 JUL 2015, format is DD MMM YYYY) under CURRENT REVISION DATE that needs to be applied to the LAST REVISIED DATE cell so it populates the sheet index correctly. 22 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Since we have all of these other dummy sheets in our Revit project coming from landscape, civil, kitchen, we need the ability to add the last revision date to their sheets. This process will be done through the ARCHITECTURAL INDEX OF DRAWINGS schedule by just copying and pasting the first entry into the rest of the cells. Adding Last Revision (Single Sheet) If you are just needing to add a single revision to a sheet then you can do this on the sheet without having to building a cloud or tag. This is a simple enough feature of Revit but can easily be missed by someone. You can add a revision to a sheet by either getting into the sheet or just selecting it on the project browser. In the Properties palette scroll down to Revisions on Sheet and select the Edit button. From here you can check mark as many revisions as you need to be added to the sheet. NOTE: This does not work in a multiple situation and hence why Page uses the schedules that were mentioned before, maybe one day Autodesk will fix this glitch. 23 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Construction Administration Phase RFI & Revisions Once the project goes into the CA phase we will need to submit 8 ½ x 11 sheets for RFI purposes to show additional information. At Page we have a workflow to do this when working with the views and sheets. In the Page Revit template we have two titleblocks, one for revisions and another for RFI. NOTE: The following workflow is one way of doing CA in Revit at Page. There are other workflows but we wanted to at least get one method documented for someone to use as a base. NOTE: In the Architecture template there two examples for Revisions and RFI. Revisions/RFI If you are needing revisions then you will need to go to the revision manager to add the additional revisions. Use the appropriate 8 ½ x 11 or 11 x 17 titleblock along with the using the cloud and appropriate tag on the sheet. The revisions for CA will always be at the bottom in the manager. Revision Manager The revision manager can be found on the ribbon under the View tab. 24 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Choose the Add button twice to add two additional rows. One row is to help us with previously issued revisions, hence the reason for the show tag option. The second row is where you will start adding the additional revisions needed for the CA phase, hence the reason for the show tag and cloud option. These two revisions will only be used for sketches, either 8-1/2 x 11 or 11 x 17 sketch title blocks with the built in masking region. NOTE: Make sure all of the settings are set correctly using the above image for the two rows that you added. Add Sketch Sheet There are special titleblocks that have built in masking regions to help hide the large sheet information so you can focus on what you need to show. In the Project Browser under the Families category -> Annotation Symbols -> ANNO-Titleblock-SKETCH- Sheet Size is where you will find them. The typical 8 1/2 x 11 is preloaded into the Page Revit Template but you can load in more. 25 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Hit the + button to see the two types: Revision and RFI. To use one of them just drag and drop or rightclick and choose Create Instance. Adding Cloud and Tag With the sheet only showing what you need now go to the ribbon and select Annotate and choose the Revision Cloud tool. In the Properties palette choose the revision that needs to be added to the sheet. On the ribbon under the Annotate tab use the Tag by Category tool to tag the revision cloud. If needed, on the Option Bar you can turn Off the Leader option. 26 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Revit will use the default revision tag so we will need to change it to what we need. In this case we will need a revision with a RFI number. Select the tag and use the Type Selector on the Properties palette to choose PSP Revision Tag w/ RFI Number. Now pick on the? that is next to the revision delta to add the RFI Number. The RFI number is being added to the comments parameter in the Properties palette. Titleblock Information The titleblock information still needs to be filled out. The RFI number does not get automatically filled out in the titleblock, this is a limitation of the Revit database. With nothing selected looked at the Properties palette, notice the parameters that start with BDR. 27 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

For the Project information go to the Manage tab on the Ribbon and select Project Information. This is where you can change the Owner and Contractor information. NOTE: If you are using the revision sketch titleblock the current revision description will show in your titleblock automatically for you. Adding Seal/Stamp This procedure is the same as before, look under the section of Customization of Titleblock Items to see the steps in doing it. 28 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c

Print and Delete Once all of the information has been filled out, in the print dialog box use the preset names for the 8 1/2" x 11 or 11 x 17, these have all of the settings set for you, the big one is having the centered Paper Placement selected. Once printed and the contractor has received it you can delete the titleblock. The revision cloud will be changed to Previously Issued so the tag stays shown but the cloud gets turned Off. Allowing the cloud to be turned Off but the delta with its specific suffix to stay On is what we regularly do with audit box related issuances. 29 P a g e J a r o d S c h u l t z, i n i t i a l. a e c
