2 Introduction Today, most business offices and educational facilities use Ethernet/Internet Protocol (IP) networks. IP is necessary for transmitting data over the Internet and for transmitting data between some network types. Tracer Summit PC Workstation Version 11 and higher software supports BACnet/IP communications. This capability enables customers to integrate their building automation system into their existing Ethernet/IP networks. Tracer Summit WebOPS extends this capability to allow control of the building automation system (BAS) from any PC with Internet access and a Web browser. WebOPS accesses real-time system data, including graphics, from the Tracer Summit system and sends it to the Web browser. It allows users to access their system from within the facility or from a remote location anywhere in the world. The new version (1.2) has improved installation speed, security, and feature functionality. WebOPS can be easily added to a new or existing Tracer Summit installation. It is compatible with Tracer Summit installations of Version 13 and higher with Ethernet or Ethernet/IP connections. WebOPS can also be connected to Tracer Summit ARCNET networks through a Trane BACnet router. 5 Product pricing Similar to the Web Server, WebOPS comes in two sizes: Standard capacity (256 MB RAM) High-capacity upgrade (512 MB RAM) The cost of the standard capacity WebOPS is similar to that of the previous standard-capacity Web Server, but the cost of the highcapacity upgrade has been significantly reduced from that of the previous high-capacity Web Server. To upgrade a Web Server Version 1.0 (sold from June 2002 through April 2003) you need to purchase a main module upgrade service part (part # ). You can upgrade a Web Server Version 1.1 by purchasing just the 512 MB flash card and 256 MB RAM chip replacement kit (part # ). If you need additional memory on your WebOPS, you can order a 512 MB RAM chip (part # ). Note: Web Server Version 1.1, sold from May 2003 through June 2004, has a 32 MB RAM. Web Server Version 1.1, sold from July 2004 through May 2005, has a 64 MB RAM. See PSO Case #5523. The larger storage capacity will allow additional graphics to be added to your existing Web Server installation or will accommodate larger, new WebOPS projects. Trane vs. competition The WebOPS base product price is priced competitively. However, limiting the comparison to the product only price of competitors does not provide a full picture of the competitive pricing scenario for your customers. Figure 1 shows how WebOPS compares in product only price to the competition. In order to address the true cost to the customer, the total installed cost must be examined between competitors. WebOPS graphics setup reduces total cost by 47% 46% overall decrease This cost benefit is due to the new custom graphics conversion tool that converts all Tracer Summit graphics so that they can be easily published to WebOPS. This tool removes the tedious process of converting these graphics manually, thereby decreasing the overall installation and setup time from days to minutes with the new WebOPS product and Tracer Summit V16 SP4 or higher. 7 Choosing the best Web-based solution By the fourth quarter of 2005, Trane will have two Web-based solutions: WebOPS and Tracer ES. WebOPS best serves smaller Tracer Summit customers with one to five sites who would like Web-based access to their system. Tracer ES is an enterprise solution that lives on a network server. It is intended to compete with top-tier controls companies for large, complex projects. Table 1 on page 7 helps to compare the two products. 8 Product overview Details of the operation and functionality of WebOPS are available in the Tracer Summit WebOPS product catalog (BAS-PRC014- EN). A brief summary of these features and their benefits follows. Graphical operation Features All graphics created or modified at the Tracer Summit PC Workstation need to be saved as custom graphics by using the new Customize Graphics Template utility in Tracer Summit V16 Service Pack 2. Converted graphics can then be published to WebOPS. These graphic representations of systems and equipment provide real-time values that are automatically updated every 10 seconds. Users can easily move between graphics by clicking links or using the Forward and Back buttons of the browser. They can also change system setpoints and perform overrides if they have appropriate security privileges. Benefits Graphical views of floor plans and equipment make it easy to operate and navigate a facility s building automation system. WebOPS uses an interface similar to Tracer Summit, eliminating the need for users to learn how to operate new software. Administrators can set up users to have access to any graphic as their home page, allowing them to quickly view the status of their area and make the changes they want (see Figure 3). Figure 3. 9 Time-of-day scheduling Features By clicking the Schedules icon, users can access a list of schedules by name. From the list, they can select a schedule to view. Users can change start and stop times and create and delete exception days. WebOPS makes editing schedules as easy as dragging start and stop times to reflect the desired changes. Benefits Time-of-day scheduling maximizes energy savings. By using Java technology, WebOPS provides a full-featured user interface that allows users to maintain comfort and efficiency from within the building or around the world. WebOPS automatically finds existing Tracer Summit schedules and makes them viewable; no additional setup is needed. Event log Features Users can click the Alarms icon to display the event log and system alarms. The events can be sorted according to properties such as date or type. Users with appropriate security privileges can acknowledge alarms from this screen. Events cannot be deleted from WebOPS event log. Note: WebOPS accesses BCU event log objects rather than PC Workstation event logs. The BCU must be Version 13 or higher to include event log functionality. Benefits Operators need to respond frequently to events and alarms. WebOPS automatically finds existing BCU event logs and makes them viewable; no additional setup is needed. Users can sort events just as they do at the PC Workstation, enabling them to quickly find events and alarms. Viewing trends Features Users can view trends in dynamic charts. Each chart represents one to ten properties of one trend. The WebOPS automatically finds and makes trend information existing in the BCU viewable; no additional setup is needed. Multiple charts can be displayed at one time. Users can also print, save, and the selected charts. Note: Trend information is obtained from the data stored in each BCU. WebOPS does not archive data or display data that has been overwritten in each BCU. Benefits Trends such as energy use or space comfort conditions are important for facility operations. Viewing charts of trend properties makes it easier to see problems and detect inconsistencies at a glance. Also, the new capabilities of printing, saving, and ing trend charts can be useful to communicate problems and for troubleshooting. BAS-SLM012-EN 9

10 Security Security is critical for any Web-enabled application. WebOPS supports both user security and data security. Features of user security The user security in WebOPS is separate from Tracer Summit security; it is set up and maintained solely in WebOPS. When accessing WebOPS with an administrator-level user name and password, the user can add, delete, or modify passwords and privileges for each user. There are three levels of user security: administrator, operator, and user. Benefits of user security User security permits only valid users to access WebOPS. User privileges can be tailored to specific user types. For example, a building operator may be able to easily view and change set points and schedules in the school or schools that he/she are responsible for, while a school principal might be able to view and/or change the entire school district information. Features of data security WebOPS provides both full and partial security with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. This technology provides a high level of data encryption (128 bit). Using the publishing utility, WebOPS can be configured to have only SSL encryption enabled for the Logon and Advanced pages or for all activity and Web pages. Benefits of data security Because SSL technology prevents unauthorized users from gaining access to WebOPS, you can assure your customers that their building automation systems will remain secure. Remote access Features Anyone granted access by the administrator can use WebOPS to access a Tracer Summit system. Access can take place from a local area network or remotely using the Internet depending on where the customer places the WebOPS appliance on their local area network (LAN). If a customer places WebOPS inside their firewall, then remote users can access WebOPS only after they have gained remote access to their organizations network, for example, using virtual private network (VPN). Alternately, if the customer places WebOPS outside of their firewall in a demilitarized zone (DMZ) configuration (see Figure 4 on page 11), then a remote user can use any standard browser to access their WebOPS. 10 BAS-SLM012-EN

WebOPS outside of firewall in a DMZ configuration Benefits The ability to remotely access a Tracer Summit system over the Internet is a valuable asset for a building operator who needs to work from home or some other remote location. WebOPS makes it possible to access a Tracer Summit site using any PC with Internet access and a Web browser. Installation Features Tracer Summit WebOPS has been improved to provide easy installation, setup, upgrade, and maintenance. Installation involves the following steps: 1. Install WebOPS hardware 2. Configure WebOPS 3. Convert graphics with Tracer Summit software 4. Publish graphics to WebOPS 5. Set up WebOPS users Custom graphics that already exist on a PC Workstation can be published to WebOPS using the publishing utility that comes on BAS-SLM012-EN 11

12 the WebOPS software CD. Standard graphic templates and custom graphic templates on a PC Workstation must be converted before they can be published to WebOPS. Using Tracer Summit V16 SP4 or higher, find the new Customize Graphic Templates utility under the Setup menu. With only one mouse click, it converts graphics so that they can be published to WebOPS. Schedules, event logs, and trends that exist at the BCU can be displayed with no additional setup or programming. WebOPS is compatible with Tracer Summit installations Version 13 and higher with Ethernet or Ethernet/IP connections. The Web Server can also be connected to Tracer Summit ARCNET networks through a BACnet router. The BAS must have either a BMTX or a BMTW model BCU to view the event log. Benefits Easy installation reduces time and cost. This translates into a more competitive end price to your customers and/or a more profitable project for you and your office. WebOPS can be installed at any time on a new or existing Tracer Summit system. All existing Web Servers can be upgraded to the new WebOPS software by ordering an upgrade kit in Lynx. System integration Tracer Summit WebOPS uses the BACnet protocol and standard Internet technology to support single-seat operation and simplify system integration. BACnet An open, standard protocol is essential for building control system integration. The Tracer Summit system and WebOPS use the BACnet protocol for this purpose. The BACnet protocol allows standard BACnet data to be freely communicated between PC Workstations, BCUs, and WebOPS. Single-seat operation Many customers define their goal for an integrated system as single-seat operation. This means that they want one tool to operate all of their equipment, regardless of who manufactured it. WebOPS supports this need by enabling customers to access their building automation system from any PC, without the need to install special software or hardware on those PCs. Using HVAC industry protocols One way to achieve singleseat operation is to purchase building automation software from a company that specializes in system integration. For example, with Trane s Tracer Summit system, customers can manage BACnet, LonTalk, and Modbus devices from different vendors. To integrate these different devices into one automation system, the devices must share common protocols or use communication bridges, such as the Tracer Summit communications bridge, to 12 BAS-SLM012-EN

13 interpret between protocols. Sometimes a fair amount of custom integration is required. Using Internet protocols Another solution for achieving single-seat operation is to use a Web access control system from each of the manufacturers providing controls equipment. Because these Web access systems use standard Internet protocols, customers can access each of the systems from a single PC with a Web browser. This solution means that you can offer your customers integrated, single-seat operation without the need to translate between different HVAC protocols. For example, a school district might purchase control equipment and Tracer Summit WebOPS from Trane to manage a high school. But another vendor might provide control equipment and a Web access system to manage an elementary school in the same district (see Figure 5 on page 14). From a PC with a Web browser, an operator can access the Web access systems that support the two schools. Because all Web pages use similar elements, such as graphics and text, the customer can specify the same graphical look and feel from the different suppliers. BAS-SLM012-EN 13

15 Sales opportunities You can market Tracer Summit WebOPS most effectively by matching its benefits with the needs of specific customers. Table 2 provides market and customer profiles and questions to pose during a sales call. A question can serve as a launching point to discuss a particular WebOPS benefit. WebOPS can give infrequent users limited access to comfort control. For example, a school principal could assess and potentially resolve a comfort problem. Access your building from a PC at your home or anywhere, using a Web browser. There's no additional software to purchase or maintain. Because WebOPS communicates using the BACnet protocol, other vendors BACnet-compliant systems can be managed. The systems are accessed using a Web browser. WebOPS doesn't have the overhead that conventional servers do. There's no software for IT staff to install or maintain. It has an embedded server, has no hard drive or fan, and mounts on the wall in the equipment room. In addition, data security using SSL encryption technology prevents unauthorized users from gaining access to the system. 17 WebOPS demonstration Web site The Tracer Summit WebOPS demonstration Web site consists of a database with graphics and custom programming language (CPL) simulations. It is designed to show the features and benefits of the Tracer Summit system and the functionality of WebOPS. The demonstration site user name is Tracer and the password is Summit (both are case-sensitive). You can use this sales tool at any PC with Internet access. Your customers can also take advantage of the opportunity to view and operate the demonstration on their own. Please remember to return all settings back to their original mode so that others may benefit from using this demonstration. Note: In order to view the demo, install the free Java plug-in on the WebOPS CD or download it from the Java Web site. 18 Frequently asked questions Can I use WebOPS for multiple sites? WebOPS is specifically designed for use with single Tracer Summit sites. For a single site (such as a high school), use one WebOPS. For multiple sites (such as a school district), use one WebOPS for each Tracer Summit site. Do I need a WebOPS in every building? No, not if multiple buildings are grouped within a single Tracer Summit site. Will WebOPS work with all versions of the Tracer Summit system that are capable of shared networks? Yes, WebOPS is designed to work with Tracer Summit Version 13 or higher. Will WebOPS work on a network that has BMTS BCUs? Yes, but the event log function for these BCUs will be lost. To use WebOPS, do the BCUs have to be on the same network as the customer s corporate network? No, WebOPS has two on-board Ethernet ports to communicate to BCUs using either a dedicated BACnet/Ethernet protocol or BACnet/IP protocol (not both). You can connect one port to the customer s corporate network (consisting of PCs and other non- BACnet devices) and the other port to the customer s building automation system, including Tracer Summit PC Workstations, BCUs, and other BACnet devices. In this case, the first port is used to communicate with PC browsers and the second port is used to communicate to BACnet devices. WebOPS isolates and protects the corporate network from the BACnet traffic of the Tracer Summit network (see Figure 6 on page 19). How much additional traffic is generated on the network? WebOPS utilizes BACnet/IP to communicate to the BCUs on the network. The amount of additional traffic produced by WebOPS is minimal and is virtually transparent to the network. How is the information transmitted over networks made secure? One of the most important network security features is a firewall. A firewall is a program or a hardware device that filters information coming from the Internet connection to the network, thereby protecting the computers on the network. It is set up on the network by the customer s Information Systems department. When WebOPS is added to the network, this security feature is not compromised. 18 BAS-SLM012-EN

Most corporate networks already have a means for employees to access their network remotely from the building, such as a virtual private network (VPN) connection or a remote access server (RAS). These are typically used when employees want to access their outside of the building network and the firewall. The same connections can be used to access the Tracer Summit information delivered by WebOPS. What information security features does WebOPS have? WebOPS supports secure socket layer (SSL) technology for its logon and advanced setup activities. It is also possible to apply this technology to all graphic pages in WebOPS. SSL has been universally accepted on the Internet for secure communication between clients and servers. An encrypted SSL connection BAS-SLM012-EN 19

20 requires all information sent between a client (requester of information) and a server (deliverer of information) to be encrypted by both the sending software and the receiving software. How any users can be simultaneously logged on to WebOPS? Ten. What upgrade options are available for WebOPS? How do I determine which option to order? If existing hardware (Figure 7) has a removable RAM chip, order part # If a high-capacity unit is needed, # should also be ordered: # includes both a flash card and 256 MB RAM chip. # includes a 512 MB RAM chip. 21 Why does data on graphics sometimes take longer to display than other times? Each time an Internet session is started and graphics are viewed, the browser caches graphics details (for example, images). Subsequent viewing of the same graphics within the same Internet session will be faster. In addition, after power is cycled, graphics are published, or changes are made to its hardware settings, WebOPS goes through a commissioning process. The progress of the commissioning process is indicated by a status bar in the toolbar. The amount of time for the process to complete depends on the number of data points in each published graphic (it should take less than 15 minutes for one BCU). Users can view graphics and other pages during the commissioning process, but the time to open graphics and display data may be slower. How many graphics can be published to WebOPS? The number of graphics depends on the amount of memory (RAM) in the WebOPS hardware. WebOPS normally ships with the standard 256 MB RAM. A higher capacity upgrade is also available, which increases the RAM to 512 MB (part # ). The amount of RAM required can be determined using the following equation: 15 kb/point Megabytes (MB) of needed RAM = x + 55 MB = x kb/mb x is the total number of points in all of the graphics. Example1: How much RAM would 450 graphics with an average of 30 points per graphic 1 require? 450 graphics multiplied by 30 points per graphic would be 13,500 points. (15 x 13,500)/ = 198 MB + 55 MB = 253 MB of required RAM The 253 MB required is less than the 512 MB of RAM on a WebOPS with a high capacity upgrade and less than the 256 MB of RAM on a standard capacity WebOPS, so 450 graphics with an average of 30 points each would fit on the standard capacity unit. Example 2: How much RAM would 1000 graphics with an average of 30 points per graphic 1 require? 1000 graphics multiplied by 30 points per graphic would be 30,000 points. (15 x 30,000)/1024) + 55 = 440 MB + 55 MB = 495 MB of required RAM points/graphic is an approximation. Programmable controllers, such as the PCM, UPCM, and Traceer MP580, have significantly more than 30 points per graphic. BAS-SLM012-EN 21

22 The 495 MB required is less than the 512 MB of RAM on a WebOPS with a high capacity upgrade and more than the 256 MB of RAM on a standard capacity WebOPS, so 1000 graphics with an average of 30 points each would require the high capacity upgrade. If the amount of RAM required exceeds the amount of RAM available in the WebOPS hardware you may want to consider one or more of the following options: Remove unnecessary points off of the existing graphics. Publish only the graphics that are necessary to manage the site. Add another WebOPS and divide the graphics to publish between them. 22 BAS-SLM012-EN
