3 Introduction Memorial is introducing a new Security Service to improve protection from based threats such as Viruses, Malware and SPAM. This document covers how the Security Service will be protecting users from SPAM. The Security Service uses percent probability of an being SPAM to sort into three categories. The higher the probability the higher the likely hood that the is SPAM. Probability of SPAM Category Action 90% to 100% Definite SPAM Do Not Deliver 50% to 90% Suspected SPAM SPAM Quarantine Less than 50% Regular Deliver to mailbox Because all technology is currently imperfect at classifying content, the Security Service protects users by quarantining that has moderate probability of being SPAM (Suspected SPAM). What follows is a guide to the SPAM Quarantine Service. Notifications The SPAM Quarantine Service will send out periodic notification s when NEW is being held as suspected SPAM in your quarantine. The notification is sent at most four times a day. The notification is only sent if there are NEW suspect SPAM in your quarantine since the last notice. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES 2
4 Accessing SPAM Quarantine You can access the SPAM quarantine by clicking the provided links in the notification . If you prefer to not click links, you can use the steps below to access the SPAM Quarantine. To access your SPAM quarantine: 1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc...) 2. 7 Releasing from SPAM Quarantine Releasing from quarantine will deliver it to your mailbox. This feature should be used when falsely identified legitimate are held in quarantine. To release an from SPAM quarantine please follow these steps: 1. Access SPAM Quarantine as outlined in Accessing SPAM Quarantine 2. Select the particular you wish to release to your mailbox by clicking the check box to the immediate left of the . If the box is checked, the is selected. 3. 8 Deleting from SPAM Quarantine in your SPAM Quarantine will automatically be deleted 14 days after it arrives. You can also manually delete from your SPAM Quarantine. To manually delete an from SPAM quarantine please follow these steps: 1. Access SPAM Quarantine as outlined in Accessing SPAM Quarantine 2. Select the particular you wish to release to your mailbox by clicking the check box to the immediate left of the . If the box is checked, the is selected. 3. 9 SafeList The SafeList feature of the Security Service allows you to define a list of addresses that will not get blocked by the systems SPAM filtering. For example you may find that s from specific senders get sent to your Spam Quarantine when you don't want them to be quarantined. To ensure messages from these senders are not SPAM filtered, you may want to add the senders to your safelists. Accessing SafeList 1. Access SPAM Quarantine as outlined in Accessing SPAM Quarantine 2. In the top right hand click the drop down 3. Click the Safelist option Adding Entries to SafeList There are two ways to add s to the SafeList. The first way is outlined in Release and add to Safelist in Releasing from SPAM Quarantine. The second way is to manually add an to your safelist. 1. Access SafeList as outlined in Accessing SafeList 2. Enter the address to bypass SPAM filtering 3. Click button 4. You should see the address now listed in the SafeList INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES 8
10 BlockList BlockList does not prevent SPAM Blocking addresses is ineffective at stopping SPAM. Spammers very often fake From addresses and never reuse an address twice. Do not use the Blocklist feature to try and prevent SPAM. The BlockList feature of the Security Service can be used to block senders that are repeatedly sending content you do not wish to receive from the same . For example, you may receive from a mailing list that no longer interests you. You may decide to add this sender to the BlockList to prevent these s from getting delivered to your inbox. Accessing BlockList 4. Access SPAM Quarantine as outlined in Accessing SPAM Quarantine 5. In the top right hand click the drop down 6. Click the Blocklist option Adding Entries to BlockList The way to add s to the BlockList is to manually add an Access BlockList as outlined in Accessing BlockList 2.
