A single sensor can operate as NPN normally open, NPN normally closed, PNP normally open, or PNP normally closed. 1 3 MLV41 Series Sensitivity Adjustment MLV41 photoelectric sensors are available with two different configurations for sensitivity adjustment. The first type is for the MLV41-8-H background suppression models, and the second is for the MLV41-54-G clear object sensing models. The adjustment for the MLV41-8-H models includes a single potentiometer for sensitivity adjustment. The multiturn potentiometer can be turned toward the larger end of the marked swirl to increase sensing range or toward the shorter end of the swirl to decrease sensing range. Light on / dark on mode is determined by the wiring. The adjustment for the MLV41-54-G also includes one potentiometer, but with five settings: N, T, I, II, and III. Light on / dark on mode is determined by the wiring. 5

7 Configuration 1 (MLV41-8-H) Configuration (MLV41-54-G) To program MLV41-54-G: 1. Align the powered MLV41-54-G to its reflector with potentiometer in its default setting at N. The yellow should be on solid, indicating light is received from the reflector with adequate ecess gain. The sensor can detect opaque objects in this N mode.. Turn the potentiometer from N to T and wait approimately seconds until the yellow and green s flash (.5Hz). 3. (a.) If programming by potentiometer is desired, turn the potentiometer to either I, II, or III depending on the contrast desired. (Refer to Modes Selected by Potentiometer chart.) (b.) If programming by eternal teach is desired (not available for /95 models), apply a pulse (V+ of supply voltage) to the eternal teach input of the sensor. The pulse duration should correspond to the contrast desired. (Refer to Modes Selected by Eternal Teach Input chart.) The green will turn off then turn on again for less than a second to signify whenever the potentiometer position has been changed. The potentiometer can be turned in either direction, and its pointer must be within the printed arc of the desired setting. After a successful teach, settings will be stored even if power to the sensor is disconnected. Detection of lowcontrast transparent objects is affected by ecessive lens contamination.
