Service announcement using IEEE WAVE Service Advertisement as a model 6 th ETSI ITS Workshop February 2014 Anders Hjelmare, Kapsch TrafficCom John Moring, IEEE P1609 Working Group Kapsch TrafficCom ETSI ITS Workshop Berlin
WAVE* Service Advertisement (WSA) Informs ITS stations of locally accessible services Generally application data services Provider Service ID (PSID/ITS-AID) Channel info WAVE assumes 5.9GHz operation, analogous to ETSI G5 Provides IP configuration info * WAVE = Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments Router address, subnet, etc. Supports other miscellaneous announcements E.g., country of operation May be signed but is not encrypted Standardized in IEEE Std for trial use in 2007, and full use in 2010; extensive operational experience Kapsch TrafficCom ETSI ITS Workshop Berlin
Example scenario 1. Provider broadcasts info about locally accessible services 2. User device enters 3. User exchanges data coverage zone, receives with Provider to complete advertisement, recognizes the service desirable service Kapsch TrafficCom ETSI ITS Workshop Berlin

WSA may be supplemented for ETSI Announcement of GeoNet/BTP services Platooning Protocol identifiers, including GeoNet/BTP BTP port number (not used in WAVE) Other data elements Advertiser velocity vector (for platooning) General features multi-hop Delivery over data plane (via GeoNet/BTP) Offers multi-hop to extend range Offers geographical area addressing ASN.1 with PER encoding geo area Kapsch TrafficCom ETSI ITS Workshop Berlin
Harmonization In 2013, the EU-USUS ITS Task Force (Harmonization Task Group 3) published a report on differences among ISO, CEN, ETSI, and IEEE standard protocols* ISO and IEEE have been investigating the possibility of aligning their advertisement message formats and protocols There is a proposal in ETSI for a service advertisement based on the WSA * Kapsch TrafficCom ETSI ITS Workshop Berlin
