1 Joint WDS SCOSTEP/VarSITI Workshop Global Data Activities for the Study of Solar-Terrestrial Variability Date: 3 days in September 2015 (TBD) Place: Tokyo, Japan (TBD) The principal objective of the joint workshop (or symposium) is to stimulate interaction among data providers (WDS members, data centers, data networks, etc.), data scientists, and data-oriented researchers of the SCOSTEP community. The new VarSITI program of SCOSTEP will strive for international collaboration in data analysis, modelling, and theory to understand how the solar variability affects. Long-term preservation and provision of quality-accessed data and information will be common objectives for SCOSTEP/VarSITI and WDS. Development of advanced data systems to enable scientists to perform multidisciplinary data-analysis will be another common target. This workshop will be a remarkable opportunity to initiate close collaboration between SCOSTEP/VarSITI and WDS to promote our data-oriented activities by introducing outcomes from the information technology. Data analysis of VarSITI Campaign Intervals will be another important component of the workshop not only to develop the study of solar-terrestrial variability but also to establish a mutual feedback loop between data users and data providers. General structure of the workshop: #1 Data-oriented activity plan of SCOSTEP/VarSITI and WDS #2 Data systems (data networks, data analysis system, data science, showcase of data systems) #3 Data analysis session (VarSITI events and others) #4 Data-oriented collaborations between SCOSTEP and WDS (a forum) Day 1 #1 #2 Day 2 #2 #3 Day 3 #3 #4 Contact point: Takashi Watanabe (WDS-IPO) takashi.watanabe@icsu-wds.org ICSU-WDS Web page:

11 Joint WDS SCOSTEP Workshop on Global Data Activities for the Study of Solar- Terrestrial Variability Dates: 3 days in (late) September 2015 (TBD) Place: Tokyo, Japan Stimulate collaboration between SCOSTEP and WDS in long-term archiving and opening of quality-assessed data produced by SCOSTEP/VarSITI and related programs. Build a feed-back loop between data providers and data users (scientists). Introduce advanced data technologies in our data activities. Recruit more WDS members from SCOSTEP community.
