They will describe Spirit s response to the storm, the disaster plan, and community partnerships that allowed Spirit s 11,000 Wichita employees to return to work in just one week. Wawzysko and Redford will also discuss lessons learned now being added to Spirit s recovery plan. Parking RSVP No Charge: PDM Only Parking Lot on East side of building. 2 2 Our February Speakers Tod Wawzysko Tod J. Wawzysko is Vice President Operations Support for Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. Mr. Wawzysko is a native of Michigan and a 1979 graduate of Michigan Technological University with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. His graduate studies include the Executive Development Program at the University of Michigan, as well as the Aerospace Industry Management Seminar from the University of Washington. He is an alumnus of the Leadership Kansas Program, class of 2002 Mr. Wawzysko joined Boeing Military Airplane Company in 1980 as a manufacturing development engineer in Manufacturing, Research and Development (MR&D). He was promoted to management in 1983 and has held numerous management positions in MR&D including Automation Technology, Sub Assembly/Lot Time Support and Determinant Assembly. In 1996, he was promoted to the senior manager position with overall responsibility for MR&D at the Wichita Site, serving in that capacity through March He then assumed responsibility as Director for the Structural Bond Manufacturing Business Unit through July 2003 and was subsequently Director for the 787 Section 41 until June Mr. Wawzysko was Director of Quality and Process Improvement starting in June 2004 and was named Vice President of Quality, Environmental Health and Safety, and Process Improvement for Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., in June, 2005, upon the divestiture of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Wichita Division. In addition to his current responsibilities, Mr. Wawzysko is on the board of directors for the Goodwill Industries of Kansas, Inc. He has been the executive focal for Kansas State University since 1997 and has served on the KSU Multicultural Engineering Advisory Council, KSU Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering Advisory Board and the KSU Advanced Manufacturing Institute Advisory Board. Ron Redford Ron Redford is Senior Manager of Global Facilities Management for Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. Mr. Redford is a 1978 graduate of Emporia State University with a B.S. degree in Business. His graduate studies include an M.B.A. from Newman University in 2006 and the Aerospace Industry Management Seminar from the University of Washington. Mr. Redford began his professional career as Operations Managers at the Coleman Company from 1981 to He joined the Boeing Company in 1987 where he held numerous Facilities Management positions until Mr. Redford was named Senior Manager, Global Facilities Management upon the divestiture from Boeing and formation of Spirit AeroSystems in In addition to his current responsibilities, Mr. Redford is an active member of Industrial Asset Management Council, International Facilities Management Association and the Project Management Institute. Mr. Redford was actively involved with the divestiture, and has led the construction and establishment of new Spirit sites around the world. He serves as Adjunct Instructor for Operations Management at Newman University.

3 3 President s Message I am excited to announce that we will be doing a Yellow Belt Seminar this year where one can obtain their Yellow Belt in one day. You will train in the AM and test in the PM and if you pass, receive your Yellow Belt certification. This has been very successful at other chapters as we learned at the APICS International Conference this past year in Denver. It will be Thursday, April 4 th at the Doubletree at the airport. More details will be forthcoming shortly. We are working on a repeat performance of our tour at Amazon.com in Coffeyville, of six years ago. It was one of our most popular tours ever and several people did not get to go. We will get a bus again if there is enough interest. We had great success with the CPIM Saturday classes and I am confident we will keep offering them for both CPIM and CSCP. This allows participants to get through classes in a third of the time of traditional classes and has been tremendously successful at other chapters. I want to thank the folks at ISM for hosting the last PDM. They had a really engaging speaker who seemed to be enjoyed by all. I believe this was the 15 th year of our joint meeting. 4 4 Certification Maintenance How s your certification maintenance? Need a few more points? Another good reason to attend our seminar in April About 50% of our chapter membership has earned an APICS certification and several others are working on their Certified in Production & Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP). Most of you are aware that APICS requires them to maintain these certifications by earning at least 75 {100 for fellow level} maintenance points every 5 years after their certification date; completing the maintenance application; and sending it to APICS. Generally a point is earned by attending 1 hour of training in resource management {remember to include your company training} or attending 1 of our chapter s PDMs or plant tours. 1 year of APICS membership counts as 6 points, as does serving on our chapter board. We start out thinking that 75 points across 5 years is an easy 15 points each year; right anyone can do that. Woops, now 2, 3, or 4 years have slipped by and you need to catch up. We can help!. Attend our PDMs or plant tours. Attend our accelerated classes {16 hrs/cpim class X 5 modules = 80 points} plus receive points for earning other APICS certification. Individuals that receive a certificate for completing the CSCP Learning System earn 30 points. It s 40 if you are also in an instructor-led class. Or you can: Attend our annual seminar April 4th. It is an 8-hour workshop so it counts as eight (8) maintenance points for CPIM, CSCP or both. Please don t let that certification that you worked so hard to attain go away. Let us help you. The method was first fully articulated in the latest edition of Orlicky s Material Requirements Planning (McGraw -Hill, 2011) co-authored by Carol Ptak and Chad Smith.
