Exclusive Programmes for Chartered Engineers CEng Professionals - Fast Track to a Recognised Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership Available exclusively for CEng professionals, this customised programme has been specifically developed as a result of mapping the Engineering Council s UK-SPEC standard for CEng registration against the CMI level 5 Qualifications in Management and Leadership. Diploma Our Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (QCF) is designed for middle managers and those aspiring to senior management who want to develop their key skills. A Diploma in Management and Leadership is the benchmark qualification for full CMI membership, taking you another step towards Chartered Manager status. CEng Fast Track candidates complete 2 instead of the usual 6 modules to complete a standard CMI qualification. Extended Diploma With a more comprehensive structure, our Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership (QCF) develops you further to give you all the key skills and competencies you'll need to become an effective manager. As with the Diploma, the Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership gives you full CMI membership and takes you another step closer towards Chartered Manager status. CEng Fast Track candidates complete 5 instead of the usual 9 modules to complete a standard CMI qualification. Application to Chartered Manager is included in the programme fee and is awarded on successful completion of the modules and short application process. 2

General Overview of the Level 5 Qualifications in Management and Leadership The Level 5 qualifications in Management & Leadership are designed for practising middle to senior managers who wish to develop their core management skills and practices. These qualifications focus on the personal development of the individual learner s management capabilities and competencies. These qualifications are derived from the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership and are accredited on the UK national qualifications frameworks The Level 5 Management and Leadership qualifications are designed to provide a firm foundation in management education and are aimed at more middle to senior managers as they represent the next step from the Level 3 in First Line Management qualifications. The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership The programme provides a broad-based, practical learning of important ideas, techniques and overall competencies that will improve effectiveness and performance. Everything studied relates to the management roles and responsibilities exercised, and the elements of the programme ensure that newly appointed learning skills, knowledge and techniques can be applied immediately in practical ways. The Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership The Extended Diploma in Management & Leadership is the most comprehensive qualification at Level 5 providing you with the key management skills to enable you to operate effectively as a middle to senior manager. As with the Diploma, this programme provides a broad-based, practical learning of important ideas, techniques and overall competencies that will improve effectiveness and performance. Everything studied relates to the management roles and responsibilities exercised, and the elements of the programme ensure that newly appointed learning skills, knowledge and techniques can be applied immediately in practical ways. CPD All CMI courses contain elements which can be counted towards your CPD. These elements include workshop attendance, self study and online research. For the IET CMI Ceng Level 5qualifications, the following CPD hours apply. 7 Candidates work closely with their line manager to ensure that each assignment is relevant to their organisation s business and that they are given opportunities to develop their skills in the workplace Pre-workshops. 9 Below highlighted in yellow moved from page 4 What are the Entry Requirements? Participants embarking on the Level 5 Qualifications in Management and Leadership for Chartered Engineers should have some current management experience and wish to expand their management potential and business knowledge. All participants must already be registered as a Chartered Engineer. How will the programme be conducted? The programme is delivered through face to face workshops and specific development workbooks, supported with on line learning and resource materials including case studies and scenarios. In addition, candidates will have the opportunity to review their particular development needs and factor in to the programme, opportunities to develop additional skills and knowledge. A tutor from CMI is assigned to each programme and it is their role to facilitate the workshops, mark the assignments and most importantly, be available to provide advice during the workshops. Candidates automatically become affiliate members of the CMI during their registration on the Diploma programme. Is it important to attend the workshops? Yes attendance on the workshops is an integral and obligatory step towards obtaining the qualification. Candidate feedback Candidates receive feedback at the end of each assignment normally within three weeks of submitting their work. In addition, they receive feedback on a continual basis throughout the programme and the course tutor is on hand at workshops to give advice and support. What happens if a candidate fails an assignment? It is very unusual to fail a paper if the candidate has completed the module and worked closely with their tutor. So there should be no surprises. However candidates do have the opportunity to resubmit and should the worst happen and they fail a second time, they will be given the option of completing another assignment. It is unusual for people who have applied themselves to fail. How will progress be measured? Progress through the programme will be measured by successful completion of each module and specific objectives and tasks in the programme which are linked to the candidates learning as well as successful completion of the qualification. Chartered Manager Assessment The exemption upgrade builds upon the knowledge and expertise demonstrated through completion of your qualification. Assessment is undertaken by completion of a written submission, detailing the learning gained, the improvement in your management practice and the positive, measurable contribution you have made to your organisation. You will then need to send the completed form to CMI for validation. 9
