Course covers application, design, layout, installation, programming, and product support. Lab equipment is provided to simulate field installations. The student is encouraged to bring a computer loaded with "Comfort Systems Software," or Network Service Tool. Course Objectives: Become familiar with Carrier air terminal zoning systems that use intelligent thermostats Apply, design and layout typical VVT and TEMP systems Install and program systems Troubleshoot, using theory of operation techniques Become familiar with the latest version of products and software Audience: Anyone responsible for the design, installation, programming, or support of Comfort System products, including Carrier personnel or customers who install or own such systems. Prerequisites: Those attending should have an understanding of basic controls principles, HVAC principles, HVAC system design, and personal computer operation.

2 ECS300 CCN Installation, Startup, and Basic Troubleshooting Length 3 Days $600 This fundamental course provides entry level students with the skills necessary to install a Carrier Comfort Network. Students learn: the purpose of various network modules; how each relates to the overall network; how they are wired and tested; and when they need to be replaced. Students use the Network Service Tool software to change typical system parameters such as setpoint schedules and time schedules. Programming of controllers, however, is not covered. Course does not include Comfort System or Comfort Zone products. The course is primarily handson, and involves the actual wiring of a network. Students also use meters and PC's to set up the network and test the network's operational health. Students MUST bring a computer loaded with a functioning version of "Network Service Tool IV." (Instructors will no longer load software during class.) Students will learn to: Understand the architecture of the Carrier Comfort Network Address network modules Install and wire network option modules and Comfort Controllers Establish network synchronized time, broadcasters and acknowledgers Connect a laptop PC to the network Operate the Network Service Tool View and interpret controller data Change time and setpoint schedules, and holidays Force and auto point information Confirm network and module communications Monitor and interpret module LED signals software Audience: Those individuals involved in the installation and troubleshooting of a Carrier Comfort Network. Ideal for installing contractors and service technicians. Prerequisites: Those attending should know how to read voltages, trace wires, and replace sensors, relays, etc. Although knowledge of how to use a computer is not necessary, it is recommended that students have at least a basic understanding of their use. ECS400 CC6400 Application and Programming Length 4 Days $725 This course provides an entrylevel student with the skills necessary to apply and program a Comfort Controller, Students work through several applications that require the use of a Comfort Controller. For each application, students choose algorithms, select controller hardware, create a system sketch, program the controller, and verify that the controller is operating successfully, Students utilize computerbased workstations to program the controllers and verify their execution for the various applications.. Students MUST bring a computer loaded with a functioning version of "Network Service Tool IV." (Instructors will no longer load software during class.) Students learn to: Understand the architecture of the Carrier Comfort Network and Comfort Controller hardware. Apply algorithms to control applications Decide on points and schedules necessary for algorithm execution Select proper sensors for the application Select proper controller hardware Create a system sketch, wiring diagram, and bill of material Program the controller with the Network Service Tool software Verify proper algorithm operation with the Network Service Tool Audience: Those individuals involved in the application and programming of Carrier's programmable controller The Comfort Controller. Ideal for application engineers, installing contractors, and for service technicians who desire a working knowledge of the Comfort Controller algorithms. Prerequisites: Those attending should have attended ECS300, understand basic HVAC principles, and have personal computer operating experience. ECS710 ComfortVIEW/ComfortWORKS Operator Length 2 Days $700 This course teaches the daytoday operator functions of ComfortVIEW and ComfortWORKS software. Secondarily, it provides an abbreviated cursory overview and basic understanding of the Carrier Comfort Network. Handson operation of a computer workstation equipped with ComfortWORKS is the primary means of learning. The PC workstation is provided for student use while in class. Lectures and demonstrations are used to teach normal operator functions. Students then practice these skills at their workstation and learn to: Understand the architecture of the Carrier Comfort Network. Create, display and use graphical views of system and use trends. Change time and setpoint schedules. View points and maintenance information. Force and auto points. Verify controller data. Upload and download controller data.

3 Manage alarms. Set up and run reports. Connect to a remote site. Interface with thirdparty software. Back up a data base. Audience: Building administrators or operators of a Carrier Comfort Network equipped with ComfortWORKS user interface software. Also technicians, application people, and service support people who interface with the software on a regular basis. ECS750 ComfortWORKS Installation Length 1 1/2 Days $600 This course teaches how to install and configure ComfortWORKS software (Windows NT versions not 2000). The many possibilities of CCN configurations and how ComfortWORKS may communicate with them through computer networks are discussed. The student learns the various types of CCNs and how to set them up. Then the student progresses with establishing various users with specific passwords, user groups, access rights and customized screens and alarm tones. The functionality of remote access service is covered. Also included is the required support software including Windows NT and SQL. Installation tips and procedures for these software packages is also included. Students learn through a progression of lectures, demonstrations and interactive labs using handson operation of a computer workstation with ComfortWORKS already installed. PC workstations are provided as lab equipment for the students use during the course. Students then practice these skills at their workstation and learn to: Understand ComfortWORKS networking capabilities. Load ComfortWORKS software on a computer. Define local area and wide area network workstations. Set up global system parameters. Establish operator profiles and access levels. Add or modify network connections. Define network printers and their function. Break networks down into useroriented areas. Add controllers to areas. Create, personalize and manage alarms. Set up remote site connections. Interface with other software applications. Backup a database. Audience: Technicians, applications people, and service support people who install and configure ComfortWORKS software and Carrier Comfort Networks on a regular basis. Prerequisites: Those attending should have attended ECS710 and have obtained prior admission clearance from Carrier Controls Marketing. ECS900 Best++ Programming Length 2 Days $650 This course is designed for individuals who desire a basic understanding of Carrier's customized controller language called Best++. Both code wiring and the new "object oriented" programming methods are reviewed. Lectures are supplemented with program writing. Programs are written, debugged, and run on PCs. Course objectives: Architecture and fundamentals of a BEST++ program. Flowcharting. BEST++ statements and syntax rules. How to write programs in the PC "programmer's environment." Basic debugging techniques. Basic documentation techniques. To be familiar with Carrier's BEST newsletter service. Audience: Any individual who desires a basic understanding of writing and interpreting BEST++ programs. This includes technicians, applications people, service support people, and building operators. Prerequisites: Those attending should have previously attended ECS300 and ECS400. Understanding basic controls and HVAC principles, as well as HVAC systems is also required. Computer program writing skills are helpful but not necessary. It is highly recommended the student have an intimate working knowledge of the Comfort Controller's algorithms. This is typically defined as one who has worked with, programmed and debugged algorithms within a Comfort Controller for at least one year.
