AMPHIGEAN UMTS WORKSHOP SERIES 3G Planning and Optimisation DURATION: 4 DAYS Audience This workshop is aimed at planning and optimisation engineers with experience of 2G network technology or engineers moving into the area of planning and optimisation. Some knowledge of radio principles and radio technologies is assumed. Is This Content For Me? Are you involved in, or going to be involved in, planning, performance monitoring or optimisation of 3G UMTS/HSPA access networks? Are you managing technical projects that are impacted by the wireless link functionality of these technologies? If any of this applies to your role, or if for any other reason you need to understand the considerations and approach for planning and optimising 3G networks in both greenfield and overlay environments then this workshop is for you. The Amphigean Approach Amphigean workshops are always led by knowledgeable training professionals whose skill and knowledge base is much greater than the bounds of the workshop content. This enables them to take a flexible and responsive approach in each session, adapting to the specific needs and questions from the group. Our workshops are highly interactive, making use of discussions, exercises and demonstrations throughout. We always aim to create a varied and effective learning environment based very much on a two-way information exchange. There are no time fillers in our workshops; you can expect to work hard, but in return you will learn and retain the things you need to know. Workshop Structure Module 1 Introduction to Planning and Optimisation Module 2 UMTS and HSPA Wireless Link Structure Module 3 Considerations for CDMA Module 4 3G Traffic Characterisation Module 5 3G Coverage Predictions Module 6 Planning Practicalities Module 7 Software Tools for Planning and Optimisation Module 8 Optimizing Coverage and Capacity Module 9 Idle Mode and System Access Parameters Module 10 Connected Mode Radio Link Control Page 1 of 7
Module 1 Introduction to Planning and Optimisation This module covers planning and optimisation strategy in general as applied to a 3G CDMA-based technology. In particular, it considers the potential impact of the requirements of coverage likely to be set for 3G licences, the impact of 3G services, expected 3G performance and the key activity focuses for 3G networks. Cell planning workflows Initial plan targets and Requirements Constraints on cell size Coverage planning considerations Cost considerations Optimisation workflows Task prioritisation The relationship between planning and optimisation 3G performance criteria Module 2 UMTS and HSPA Wireless Link Structure Review It is essential that planning and optimisation engineers have a good general understanding of the structure and behaviour of the technology that they are focused on. Such knowledge better enables them to understand likely real-world coverage, service capabilities, behaviour characteristics as well as likely interference effects. This module reviews the key concepts of the UMTS/HSPA wireless link including protocols structure and functions, channel types and functions and overall physical layer structure and characteristics. Technical standards overview RAN architecture and NB functions Key wireless link protocols FDD and TDD modes Review of the UMTS physical layer 3G spectrum Basic CDMA concepts Code application in UMTS Logical, transport and physical channel concepts HSPA operation Page 2 of 7
Module 3 Considerations for CDMA The application of CDMA as the multiple access technology in UMTS and HSPA brings some very specific behavioural characteristics in the radio network. It is critical that engineers involved in planning and particularly those involved in optimisation fully appreciate these characteristics as well as their causes and likely impact.. Pilot channel functions The Rake receiver The need for fast power control Mutual interference within a cell Interference between cells The need for soft handover Implications for supporting soft handover Cell breathing effect Understanding ACLR Multi-service coverage MIMO concepts Module 4 3G Traffic Characterisation UMTS can carry a broad range of traffic types covering low rate through to high rate data in both circuit switched and packet switched formats. This is especially true once HSPA capability has been introduced. It can be implemented for mobile or for fixed wireless broadband access, as a backhaul technology, for domestic broadband access, or even for multimedia broadcast. It is important to understand the characteristics of different types of traffic, the requirements this places on network design and the ways in which this can be included in performance simulations at the design stage. Core network connectivity 3G Device types HSPA capabilities Traffic types QoS in 3G networks Packet data characteristics Subscriber Profiles Associating users, services and devices Area classification Defining traffic in a planning tool Creating traffic maps Page 3 of 7
Module 5 3G Coverage Predictions Coverage prediction is typically the core function for planning engineer. It is critical that this task is performed to provide an output with a high degree of confidence such that the network design is both cost effective and high quality in terms of coverage and capacity enabling an operator to compete effectively in their market place. This module combines information from modules 3 and 4 and then adds information on suitable coverage prediction models and approaches. The module includes the calculation of typical 3G link budgets. This is backed up with exercises. 3G propagation model considerations Microcellular propagation modelling options Wideband channel effect Link budget required inputs Incorporating and interference margin Estimating link margins A logical approach to the link budget Calculating EIRP and MRIL Using and tuning empirical path loss models Defining UMTS radio measurements Assessing UMTS radio measurements Coverage prediction with a planning tool Module 6 Planning Practicalities This module provides a brief summary of practical planning considerations including physical configurations for sites, use of HCS in 3G and femtocells. Consideration is given to the requirements, implications and benefits of very small cells as well as the requirement for very large cells. The importance of licenced spectrum bands and the contrasting attributes of different potential bands are also discussed. The module also highlights the needs for, and methods for, calculation of radiation exposure limits. Bid planning Rollout planning Development planning UMTS Spectrum UMTS RAN architectures Consideration for existing site reuse UMTS co-site issues Hierarchical cell architectures for 3G Using femtocells IRAT handover considerations Distributed NBs Very large UMTS cells Coverage in public places and on public transport Ensuring compliance for radiation exposure limits Page 4 of 7
Module 7 Software Tools for Planning and Optimisation Planning and optimising modern telecommunications networks of all kinds relies heavily on the use of sophisticated software tools. In no discipline is this truer than in radio coverage planning and performance assessment. The core of any planning tool is a calculation engine for propagation prediction but modern tools, especially those aimed at 3G planning, contain much more functionality than basic coverage prediction. Similarly tools for optimisation will monitor and report real network functionality and performance. This module provides a review of the types of tools available to the planner or optimiser and outlines their applications and their limitations. LTE Planning and measurement tools Planning approach and tool applicability Monte Carlo simulations Managing traffic and demographics Radio configuration settings Configuring simulations Comparison of simulation types Typical simulation outputs Propagation model tuning Drive test tools Example monitored data Drive test performance evaluation information Module 8 Optimizing Coverage and Capacity Achieving an optimal balance between coverage and capacity and ensuring that the solution is cost effective is a critical requirement of the planning process. This module looks at a mix of features and techniques that may be applied to UMTS networks in order to enhance coverage and quality performance. Link budges variables Incorporating cell breathing effects Incorporating cell load factor Antenna selection Antenna variables LNAs and repeaters (cell enhancers) Design considerations for repeaters Load balancing Interference mitigation in UMTS The impact of MIMO Using automatic cell planning tools for coverage optimisation Page 5 of 7
Module 9 Idle Mode and System Access Parameters In this module you will look in detail at the parameters that may be used to control the behaviour and priorities of a UE in UMTS Idle mode. It is essential for the optimiser to understand what influences can be brought to bear on the processes of system and cell selection, prioritisation for access and on cell reselection for Idle Mode mobility management. The module includes bidirectional Idle Mode IRAT procedures. UMTS RRC service states Defined internal and IRAT interactions Idle Mode functions System Information PLMN/RAT selection Initial cell selection Adaptation for femtocells (HNBs) RACH operation Random access control parameters Measurement rules Cell reselection process Neighbour list considerations Managing HCS priorities Speed scaling factors Detailed parameter definition and transmission UMTS reselection to GSM/GPRS Managing Edge-of-cluster behaviour Access classes Call admission control Page 6 of 7
Module 10 Connected Mode Parameters Much optimisation activity focuses on the successful and efficient control of UEs in connected mode. This module deals with the parameters that are used to influence the establishment and maintenance of RRC connections over the wireless link in UMTS. You will learn about access control, the measurement and reporting processes and handover procedures in UMTS, and consideration for handovers into UMTS from legacy technologies. The module also covers link maintenance procedures such as power control. UMTS RRC connected mode service states Defined internal and IRAT interactions Typical call establishment procedures Connected mode functions UMTS channel applicability HSPA configurations and channel application Initial UE transmit power parameters Inner and outer loop power control Fast uplink closed loop power control Power control algorithms and parameters Downlink closed loop power control Power offset parameters Power control headroom Power drifting Measurements for handover Measurement types Reporting configurations and parameters Connected mode neighbour lists Combined neighbour lists in soft handover UMTS event triggers for reports Compressed mode for IRAT handovers Detailed parameter definition and transmission Handover procedures Handover to LTE from UMTS and GSM/GPRS Amphigean Limited Riverside Business Park, Natland Road, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 7SX W: T: +44 (0) E: Registered in England & Wales No Registered Office: Riverside Business Park, Natland Road, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 7SX Page 7 of 7
