3 Who we are and what we do: Computer Services Division The mission of the Computer Services Division (CSD) is to provide students, faculty and staff with the computing, networking and voice communications tools necessary to support the academic and administrative missions of the university. The University of South Carolina Aiken and the Computer Services Division are committed to providing a reliable, state-of-the-art campus computing environment. USCA s primary student computing lab is located in the Business and Education Building (B&E) Suite 238. The suite contains an open Windows and Macintosh computer lab (238A), a dedicated Macintosh classroom (238F) and a dedicated Windows classroom (238E). To assist you with your computing needs, the B&E Suite is also home to the USCA Help Desk, which is staffed by three fulltime CSD employees and a number of student workers. An additional Windows computer lab is located in Science Building Room 100. Although a few classes are regularly scheduled there, the lab is usually available. Students have access to these facilities and most computing resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can use our card entry system to gain access afterhours to the B&E 238 Computer Suite. A valid student ID is required to gain access. Access can also be gained by calling Public Safety, X6111. The majority of academic computing is supported in the Windows 7 (upgrading to Windows 10 this summer) and Macintosh OS X environments. CSD offers training to faculty and staff in a variety of commonly used operating systems and applications. Network services are provided through USCA's state-of-the-art Cisco network, which provides up-to 1 GB connections to the desktop, gigabit connectivity between buildings, access to the entire University of South Carolina network and access to the Internet. The student housing complex is also wired for internet access. In addition, the campus has wireless network access for mobile devices and laptops. CSD manages a variety of servers providing the campus community with , network printing, file sharing, network applications and other vital systems. Services Provided Office of the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer is located in Penland Administration Building, Suite 236. Ernest Pringle, VCITCIO; Linda Cox, Business Manager; Ashley Leopard, Paula Ray Baker. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer provides administrative support to all the departments of the Computer Services Division. That support includes: human resources administration; budget management; purchasing; telephone billing; and software distribution and management. Additionally, the Office of the VCITCIO also: Operates the University of South Carolina Aiken switchboard. Oversees the daily operation of CSD and provides the direction for campus technology.

4 Represents CSD and campus technology at the senior administrator level. Plans and prioritizes the integration of new technologies. Monitors campus-wide computer hardware and software orders. Manages campus-wide software inventories. Manages and monitors the USCA telephone switchboard. Client Services (Help Desk) is located in B&E Suite 238 and Penland 103. Chris Spires, Director; Lisa Bryant; Lamar Golson, Mark Patton, and one vacant position to be filled by the end of March. The Help Desk also has an average of 10 student workers assigned to it during the Fall and Spring semester. The Help Desk provides the first point of contact for support and resolution to faculty, staff and students for computer hardware, software and telephone systems at the University of South Carolina Aiken. To contact the Help Desk, dial HELP (4357) from any campus phone, from noncampus phones or The Help Desk provides the following services: Performs basic and intermediate computer/technology troubleshooting. Provides follow-up to ensure problems are resolved efficiently. Manages/troubleshoots supported academic software installed on all campus computers. Interacts with USC Columbia to establish mainframe accounts, reset mainframe passwords, and instructs students, faculty and staff in their use. Establishes USCA network user IDs for faculty, staff and student workers, and resets network passwords for all USCA network users. Schedules and teaches workshops for common software applications for faculty, staff and students. Assists faculty with incorporating technology into their classes. Assists faculty and staff with selecting and ordering new computer hardware or replacing/repairing existing computer equipment. Maintains inventory of computer hardware. Establishes and troubleshoots physical computer and mobile device connectivity to the network. Installs and repairs computer hardware, software and peripherals. Network Service, Infrastructure and Architecture is located in Penland Administration Building, Room 112 and 236. Joann Williamson, Director; Chris Clark; Ciara Gordon; Chris Leach, Chris Lewis, plus one to two student workers. Network Services provides expert-level technical support for all enterprise information technology systems at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Those systems include, but are not limited to: local and wide area network maintenance, security and design; data protection and recovery; and disaster recover. The department s goal is to maintain a 99.8% uptime rate for the campus network systems. Performs advanced troubleshooting. Manages the USCA wired and Wi-Fi networks and servers. Configures and installs network applications. Plans and performs initial computer software installations.

5 Creates shared folders and mailing lists for classes. Creates student accounts and student USCA network IDs. Assists faculty with computer programming, web, and database design. Assists faculty and staff in choosing and purchasing software for individual computers, the network, and classrooms. Solicits input on technology needs for each new semester. Installs and repairs phones and phone lines, provides temporary phone needs (such as conference phones). Instructional Services is located in the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, Room 101 and 307. Keith Pierce, Director; Barry Ready; Joshua Campos. Instructional Services promotes, supports and enhances teaching and learning effectiveness by providing expert-level multimedia services to the University of South Carolina Aiken community. Provide A/V equipment checkout and service. Plan and present educational workshops on a variety of topics such as graphics creation, media editing, software instruction and equipment use. Provide media services to support educational requirements through the television studio, production systems and individual coaching. Operate a television studio with a full lighting grid, broadcast switcher and audio mixer. Facilitate videoconferencing with a wide array of academic users.
