Setup and Configuration of the Interact 6.X Allen Bradley Ethernet Driver to a single or Multiple SLC5/05(s) *NOTE: It is recommended by CTC Parker that the PLC and the PowerStation should not be setup on the factory floor as DHCP (Dynamic Host Resolution Protocol) for the IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. In a controlled test-bench environment, it is possible, but again not recommended. For a specified IP address on your network, contact your local Network Administrator to assign an IP address for the SLC5/05 or PLC5/E and the PowerStation. 1. Start by adding the Allen Bradley Ethernet driver to your Driver s Used. 2. Double-click on the Allen Bradley Ethernet driver. Use the Node List tab to provide the following information: Node: A list of all PLC station numbers (nodes) on the network. Type: The type of each PLC (PLC-5 or SLC-5). IP Address: The Internet Protocol (IP) address of each PLC. The IP address enables the driver to communicate with PLCs on the network. Startup: The communication status of each PLC at Startup that is, whether the driver should start communicating with the PLC when you enter Interact Run mode (Active) or whether it should not (Stopped). Completing the Node List Complete the Node List by following these steps: 1. Select the Add button to enter a PLC node number. The Add Node dialog box will appear. NOTE: To delete a previously entered number, highlight the entry, and select the Delete button. 2. For each PLC station, enter a node number (0 to 31 octal) in the list box, and then select OK. You will return to the Node tab. Page: 1

2 Important: You must enter a node number for each PLC that the driver will communicate with. 3. On the Node tab, select the PLC Type for this node number (PLC-5 or SLC-5). The Node list now will show the node number and the PLC type. In addition, the Startup condition for the selected PLC will default to Active. Thus, the driver will start communicating with the PLC as soon as you enter Interact Run mode. 4. Enter the IP address for the selected PLC. The IP address is the electronic "address" of each device on the network. It consists of four sets of numbers separated by periods (e.g., XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX). The IP address must be a unique address on the network. Contact your MIS representative to obtain an IP address for each PLC. To enter an IP address for the selected PLC, select the first zero in the IP Address box, and type the appropriate number. If you type a three-digit number, the cursor will automatically advance to the next zero in the box. If you use fewer than three digits, you will have to select the next zero manually. Continue until you have entered the complete IP address. 5. If you want to change the PLC's Startup condition, select the appropriate Startup radio button (Active or Stopped). If you select Active, the driver will automatically start communicating with the selected PLC as soon as you enter Run mode. If you select Stopped, the driver will not communicate with the PLC when you enter Run mode. Once in Run mode, you can stop or start communication with the PLC by selecting a button on the device driver runtime screen. 6. Click OK at the bottom of the tab. Page: 2

3 7. To add additional PLC s, repeat steps #4 through #6. Setting up the Ethernet Card on a PC with Interact Runtime Set up an Ethernet card by following these steps. You do not need to perform these steps if you are using the PowerStation's built-in, 10BaseT/100BaseT Ethernet port. Go to "Setting up the Computer", below. 1. Install the Ethernet card in your computer. For installation instructions, see your Ethernet card documentation. 2. Configure the Ethernet card to use an available IRQ and I/O port address so that the computer can can communicate directly with the PLC. For instructions on how to enter these settings, see your Ethernet card documentation. 3. Install the MachineShop Shell, and configure your network settings to use the IRQ and I/O address that you set up in step 2. See the MachineShop Installation Booklet for instructions on how to install the shell and required networking software. See "Setting up the Computer," below," for instructions on how to configure the network settings. Setting up the PowerStation/Computer Set up your computer for Ethernet communications by following these steps: 1. Start the MachineShop Shell. 2. From the Settings submenu, select TCP/IP. The TCP/IP Setup screen will appear. 3. From the TCP/IP Setup menu, select ENABLE; then select YES. 4. From the TCP/IP Setup menu, select NET NAME, and enter a name in the entry screen. The name should have no more than eight characters and should be unique to your network. 5. Select OK. 6. From the TCP/IP Setup menu, select NET SETUP. 7. Select the first NET button (NET1). Page: 3

4 The Net submenu will appear. 8. Enter your network parameters by making the following selections on the Net submenu. The specific settings listed below are defaults for the PowerStation Ethernet port. IFACE TYPE: NE2000 IP ADDRESS: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX The IP address is the electronic "address" of each device on a network. It consists of four sets of numbers separated by periods, as in the example above. The IP address must be a unique address on the network. Contact your MIS representative to obtain an IP address for the computer, or type to obtain an IP address from your server. IP MASK: PORT ADDRESS: 280 This address must match the port address for your Ethernet card. IRQ: 10 This IRQ must match the IRQ for your Ethernet card. DOWNLOAD ONLY: OFF 9. Press the BACK key twice; then select YES to restart the computer. The computer is now configured for Ethernet communications. Configuring the Controller(s) Configure the controller for a fixed IP address. See your controller documentation for instructions on how to configure the controller. Contact your MIS representative to obtain the appropriate IP address. Important: In the controller configuration, the Bootp Enable selection must be disabled since the ABEN driver does not support communication with a Bootp server. Connection Requirements For the ABEN device driver to communicate with a PLC, you must have the following software installed in your computer: MachineShop Shell version 1.0 or higher TCP/IP stack version 1.02 or higher The diagrams below show the connections required for the ABEN driver to communicate with a PLC through the Ethernet port on a PowerStation.
