Included in the scope of supply is the FS02 MONITOR (SONOFLOW Monitor) software. This software allows to start and to stop the flow measurement, to display measured data and to adjust the sensor parameters. The Connector to Control Unit is used to connect the customer s control unit to the USB Data Converter. 3.2 Connecting the USB Data Converter Caution! The device or the sensor may be damaged. The sensor must be connected correctly. Never connect the plug for serial data transmission using the mains connection or the current output. Before connecting the sensor, the power supply to the USB data converter must be disconnected. Connect USB Data Converter: To Computer via USB cable With the SONOFLOW sensor via the 8 wire M12 sensor cable Figure 2: Connection of 8 wire M12 cable to USB Data Converter With the Plug-In Power Supply +24 V SONOFLOW Monitor 8
9 3 Connecting the USB Data Converter See figure 3 for also connecting the USB Data Converter to your control unit (e.g. your PLC) via the 6 wire cable. Figure 3: Connection of Sensor with USB Data Converter to Computer and to Customer Control Unit SONOFLOW Monitor 9
10 3 Connecting the USB Data Converter 3.3 Outputs/Inputs to Control Unit Current Output For connecting to the current output of the SONOFLOW sensor, connect a load resistance to ground, as shown in figure 4. For dimensioning of the load resistor, please see our data sheet SONOFLOW CO.55 V2.0 Ultrasonic Flow Sensor. Figure 4: Connection of Sensor with 3 wire cable to Customer Control Unit - Current Output Frequency Output For connecting the frequency output to the SONOFLOW sensor, connect your control unit as shown in figure 5. Figure 5: Connection of Sensor with 2 wire cable to Customer Control Unit - Frequency Output Digital Output You can use the SONOFLOW sensor as Flow Switch or to control a dosage system. When using the sensor as Flow Switch, the output goes High, when the first threshold (ON) is exceeded, and the output goes Low, when the flow value fells below the second threshold (OFF). SONOFLOW Monitor 10
11 3 Connecting the USB Data Converter When the sensor is used in the configuration Volume dosing to control a dosage system, you can specify a volume with the parameter Threshold Volume [ml]. After resetting the volume counter the output goes to High. When the volume reached, the output goes to Low. The next dosing procedure is started after the next reset of the volume counter. The behaviour of the output can be inverted with the Parameter Inverted. Select the tab Settings in the Monitor Software, click on Output\Switching Output\Type to change the output type. You can select the output types PNP, NPN and Push-Pull. Connect your load, as shown in figure 6. Figure 6: Connection of Sensor with 3 wire cable to Customer Control Unit - Digital Output Digital Input The digital input can be used for zero point adjustment, to reset the volume counter (Zeroing) or to restart the sensor. When using the SONOFLOW sensor as control sensor for a dosage system, the digital input has to be set to Zeroing of the internal volume counter. Connect your input switch as shown in figure 7. Figure 7: Connection of Sensor with 2 wire cable to Customer Control Unit - Digital Input Power on/off To switch the power of the sensor on or off, select the tab Monitor and click on Power. Alternatively, press the key combination [Alt] + Q. SONOFLOW Monitor 11
