INTRODUCTION I The SMS 010 concept SMS 010 software as a whole consists of parametrisation, reporting and disturbance evaluation software. The separate software products are combined according to the needed functionality. Furthermore is communication equipment needed according to the system built-up. REPORT is also requiring a SACO 100 M or a SRIO 500 /1000 M data communicator. The complete SMS 010 software package provides setting, reporting and disturbance evaluation facilities. The separate software products are combined according to the needs. It is a universal program for relays, disturbance recorders and annunciators. Other SMS 010 software modules are added to this program according to the requirements of the application. Depending on the types of protection in use, special software module/-s or programs are needed, e.g. SM/SPA_, SM/REL 100, REPORT, DR-COM, REVAL, etc. SMS 010 enables the user to call a relay via a leased line, the public telephone system or, if he is in the station, via a direct optical fiber link to read relay data, events, disturbances and change settings. SMS 010 can also be made to communicate with a PC by connecting a cable to its serial port. For example, when using a SPAC 500/300 relay, it is possible to link SPAC to the PC by connecting the SPAC control module s RS-232 front panel interface to the PC s RS-232 port using the cable supplied with the SM/SPA_ package. The data read from the SPAC can then be examined in SMS 010. The current power system load values, recorded values and relay settings can be viewed and the settings can also be changed. The communication between the PC and the relay is based on the SPA protocol. With the aid of the PC, it is also possible to create a file with relay settings which only takes a few minutes to download to the protection. Page 3

INTRODUCTION II SM/SACO SM/SACO, ordering number RS AA, consists of the following: SM/SACO 1 Disk, 2 User s Guides, 2 Cables Disks Disk 1 SM/SACO SACO units libraries for SMS 010 User s Guides Program Guide SMS 010 User s Guide SM/SACO units User s Guide SACO modules Cables SPA-ZP 6A2 RS 485 to RS 232 cable, (SACO RS 485 and PC RS232) SPA-ZP 21A Connection cable for SPA ZP-6A2 to SACO screw terminal III Summary of this guide This User s Guide instructs the user on the normal use of a SPACOM relay in conjunction with a SM/ product using SMS-BASE. SMS-BASE with a SM/ product provides the possibility of viewing the data and setting the parameters of the SPACOM series of relays using a personal computer (PC). The module data is displayed on the screen of the PC. From a remote location, the PC communicates with the protection either via a leased line or the public telephone network, or within the same substation by a direct connection. Examples are presented on how to view relay data and set the relay parameters. Exercises enable a quick start to be made in entering a real protection configuration and taking SMS-BASE and SM to practical use. IV Application This User s Guide is applicable to SM/SACO version 2.1. These User s Guides describes the normal application of the software product SM/SACO. 7 CHAPTER 1 1 WHAT IS SM/SACO? SM/SACO is the module package for SACO annunciators within the SPACOM relay family. SM/SACO is providing the SMS 010 user with the software needed for parametrisation of the SACO annunciators, monitoring of received settings and state signals from SACO is also encouraged. In connection to SM/SACO, SMS-BASE needs also to be installed as the platform, with the necessary tools for working within SMS 010. For alarm, event and logging handling, the REPORT program requires also that concerned annunciator modules from SM/SACO are installed, otherwise cannot these units be included in the SMS 010 REPORT system. Page 7

CHAPTER 2 2 INSTALLATION When installing SACO units to the SMS 010 module library from the SM/SACO installation disk the recommendation is to select all units. When adding SACO units to the SMS-BASE application structure, the information given in following sections might be to a great help when selecting which units to add. 2.1 Before installing SACO annunciators Normally there are only two module types in question; SACO 16D2B or SACO 16A3, (SACO 100 M data communicator module does not need to be installed). If using SACO annunciator modules older than 1992 it could be possible that SACO 16D2 is the module used. If you are using SACO 16D1 annunciators, you can if needed select a special option with only two output relays called SACO 16D1B. In the late 1980 s there was also the genuine module SACO 16D1. If wrong modules are installed the communication between SMS 010 and the SACO module in question will fail. The identity of a SACO module can be clarified by using a Terminal- or SPA-Terminal emulator and making an identity request, (RF command). (The module front panel text is not giving full guidance). If the module answers SACO 16D2B then it is for sure that it is a SACO 16D2B module. (How to use terminal emulators are described in SMS-BASE User s Guide sections forward). Further more it could be possible that you have another SACO configuration than the default SM/SACO installation provides. Then SACO modules can be manually added or removed. The case being that the module is another than the SM/SACO default installation assumes then refer to section 2.3 for how to manually add or delete modules from the application structure SACO 16D2 or SACO 16D2B? When the SACO that is to be installed is older than 1992, or if the user doesn t know the module type it is sometimes necessary to find out if modules of the type SACO 16D2 or SACO 16D2B should be installed, e.g. when installing SACO 64D4 or SACO 148D4. SMS-BASE is by default installing the SACO 16D2B module for most SACOs except for SACO 16A3. Refer to APPENDIX C.1 in this User s Guide for information about which modules that are installed SACO 16D1B, 16D2B or SACO 16D1 Early? The relationship between SACO 16D1 and the SM/SACO library for SACO 16D1 is worth a closer study. The SM/SACO version 1.0 installed a module named SACO 16D1B for this annunciator. It proved later on to be a very rare module, but SM/SACO v. 1.0 was prepared for it. From SM/SACO version 1.1 the default module is changed to SACO 16D2B. When installing a SACO 16D1 annunciator to the SMS-BASE application structure the module SACO 16D2B is installed. There is, how ever, one remark to observe: SACO 16D1 has 2 output relays, while SACO 16D2B permits reading and setting of 16 output relays! This will, how ever, not cause any troubles, other than aesthetically ones. If the SMS 010 user wants to use a SACO module with only two readable and settable output relays, then he should install the SACO 16D1B annunciator instead. This is a modified version of SACO 16D2B that is aware of only two output relays. This 16D1B module is reserved explicitly for the SACO 16D1 annunciator. E.g. SACO 16D3 with 16 output relays should always use SACO 16D2B. Page 8

CHAPTER 2 The SACO 16D1 annunciators delivered in the late 1980 s were not of the type SACO 16D1B or SACO 16D2B. They were genuine SACO 16D1 modules, (verify by RF request). Thus SACO 16D1 Early has been added to SM/SACO v. 2.1, in order to provide with the needed module also for these SACOs. So, if you discover, by the RF command, that your SACO 16D1 actually is a SACO 16D1 module, then your selection should be SACO 16D1 Early, otherwise use 16D1B or 16D2B Manual adding or removing of SACO annunciator modules It is always possible to add more or remove unnecessary SACO modules, when the default configuration isn t matching the desired one. SACO is a modular system, enabling the user to add more SACO annunciator modules or ordering SACOs with various amount of modules. When the user has a SACO annunciator that can t be found in the default installation, or needs to replace the installed modules, (section 2.1), then the solution is as described: The principle of adding and removing are almost the same. 1. Choose the UTILITIES / Alter application structure option in the SMS-BASE main menu 2. Go down in the structure to the Select Unit level If you intend to add a default SACO unit, is the quick adding of units window opened upon pressing the <A> button. Select the wanted SACO unit and confirm. Continue to Select Module/Part on the Unit level after the installation of the annunciator. If the SACO in question already is added to the application structure then mark it with the cursor and continue to the Select Module/Part of Unit level by <Enter>. In both cases are the SACO module/-s listed. You can now either delete the modules by marking the module and press <D> and/or add/(replace) modules by the <A> button, in any order! Rules to obey when adding modules manually: The module names has to be given 100 % correct, e.g. SACO 16D2 is accepted while SACO16D2 or 16D2 are rejected. Yet another important note is that the module, of course, has to be found in the SMS 010 module library, (installed from SM/SACO installation disk). Text can be added after the module identity and a space. The SMS-BASE message for an unsuccessful installation is Can t open xxxx.def. Then it s only to try again. A Manual Entry can also be used for composing own relay configurations, but by starting from Select Unit level and <A> button. The text A Manual Entry can be edited afterwards. These procedures described in this section are more thoroughly described in the SMS-BASE User s Guide, section Installing SM/ packages The basic principles for the installation of the SM/ software packages will be shortly explained in following sections. The installation of SM/SACO annunciators is easy to perform and follows the installation shown in figure 2.2.A. The procedure for the installation of the SMS-BASE software is thoroughly described in the SMS-BASE User's Guide, section 2.2 'Installing the program'. Page 9

CHAPTER 2 If you have forgotten, or later on need, to install more annunciators to your SMS 010 system from the SM/SACO disk, you can reinstall again to install the missing ones. Install v. 2.0 (SM/SPA_, SM/SACO and SM/SPCR) START Path for your installation The SMS-BASE home directory will be: C:\ SMS\ BASE Do you want to continue? No Yes Copying (to the SMSTMP) Select the units you want to install Do you w ant to install selected units? No Yes! Installing End Fig. 2.2.A The procedure for installing SM/ packages Conditions for installation IMPORTANT to know before installation of SMS 010 products! If the harddisk of the PC is defect the installation program might perform an uncompleted installation. The DOS command CHKDSK, (CHKDSK/F can repair minor faults), can be used to clarify if the harddisk is defect. SCANDISK is another command possible to use. Note! SMS-BASE must always be installed before SM/SACO! Installation troubles might also occur due to lack of free space on the harddisk. In this case try to free more space. Harddisk requirements are specified in the B appendix. Before installing any other SMS 010 software you should start by installing SMS-BASE disk 1, if it isn t already installed. After this the other SMS 010 packages can be installed in any order. Page 10

CHAPTER Installing There are two starting situations for the installation: 1 Start totally from the beginning 2 An ongoing installation session, i.e. inserting of new installation disks without interrupting the installation session, after e.g. completed SMS-BASE installation. Starting situation 1: START: (Fig. 2.2.A) Change drive to your floppy disk drive A: or B: etc. Command: A: At the A:\> drive type install A:\>install You will be asked for your SMS-BASE installation path. Press <Enter> to confirm if standard path, otherwise type the correct path. Select the units you want to install, and also if asked for, the type of the selected relay. Selecting a C version gives all modules for the actual relay. Later, when you are creating your application structure, you still have the possibility to select among the C versions if you have chosen the complete relay when installing, else you will get the version chosen e.g. SPAD 346 C4. After finishing the relay selecting part the actual installation is started by the <F2> button. You could, of course, proceed the installation with another disk or end the installation session by pressing <Escape>. Starting situation 2 : A continuos installation session means that the program queries about continuing or finishing the installation of SMS 010 software. In this case the installation program already knows the installation path for the SMS-BASE and proceeds directly to the Copying (to SMSTMP). You will, though, have to select relay units as usual, when it is a SM/ package disk. Also refer to Starting situation 1 and the procedure showed in Fig 2.2.A. Page 11
