1 Integrating and configuring Dynalite lighting and heating systems with SystemNet software System Net Configuration Software 10.0 or higher Firmware 10.0 or higher S6 or six port hub only, colour touch screens only 17 th December 2008 Paul Hilditch Introduction Dynalite manufacturer sophisticated lighting and heating control systems often used in the residential market. Systemline colour touch screens have lighting and heating control options, and with version 10.0 or above also have the RS232 serial driver software to operate the Dynalite system. Using this release it will be possible to operate the following functions via a Dynalite system using an RS232 link to Systemline: 1. Lighting Scenes 2. Lighting Off 3. Raise or Lower lighting manually 4. Curtain Open or Close 5. Gate Open or Close 6. Display current temperature of a zone 7. Change state of heating between Comfort, Standby, Night or Frost Protection 8. Display temperature set point in a zone on all states 9. Adjust set point in Comfort mode. Each touch screen s Dynalite settings can be configured independently, so lighting and heating can be controlled on a zone by zone basis. Up to 8 touch screens can be used in a Systemline system, one in each zone. You can mix local zone control and global house control of lighting on each touch screen.

2 Connections A Dynalite DNG232 must be used to create the RS232 interface required by SystemNet. The DNG232 plugs into the four-wire Dynalite power and data bus like any other Dynalite device. It is better placed as close to Systemline S6 or System Net Hub as possible to keep the RS232 cable as short as possible. You should use a straight through male to female serial RS232 cable to connect the DNG232 to SystemNet. The DNG232 unit must be setup to accept and communicate ASCII text commands. DNG232 Port configuration For the DNG232 to communicate with the Systemline system, port 2 must be configured as a Text Gateway (Default setting). In DLight 2 under the Utils menu list, select Serial Port Settings > Port 2 Settings. Ensure that the Protocol is set to Text Gateway. Use one of the six serial ports available on SystemNet for the RS232 cable. Software configuration You must use 10.0 or higher System Net software and firmware to use the Dynalite interface as well as S6 or six port modular System Net Hubs. You must also use colour touch screen keypads as monochrome keypads are not able to use this control method. Two port hubs cannot be used for this application. Firstly you must add Dynalite as a configurable source; you can then select this and press Configure. This opens up a new window with the serial port you wish to use. Select the desired serial port that you have plugged the DNG232 box into, this is a drop down option from one to six.

3 You can proceed adding any other serial devices you wish to use and configure the six audio inputs for Systemline. You must then add up to 8 keypads in your system (1 per zone), only colour keypads will allow you to configure Dynalite lighting or heating. Lighting Control You can select Dynalite lighting for each keypad that requires lighting control from the drop down Lighting section. You can then configure up to 16 lighting or automation buttons (8 per page) for each keypad by selecting the Configure button in the lighting section. You can select a graphic image for each button by using the Button Icon drop down option; this then allows you to configure the Dynalite settings for each button. It is

4 possible to configure a button to toggle between two presets by selecting the toggle tick box; otherwise the button will always have one preset function. Each button must have an area number defined. This refers to the area location in the Dynalite system, and will operate lighting circuits configured in your selected area. An area address can have a value from 0 to 255. You can then select the preset value you wish the button to use, the functionality of the preset is determined in the Dynalite system. Presets have a value from 0 to 255. Lighting scenes need a fade time which is configured in the fade time window, values are in milliseconds. 1000=1 second. There is no configuration setting for raise or lower lighting other than the area address, as this is a fixed function. Finally you can input a label for each button such as Scene 1 or TV etc. describing the function of each button. The example above shows 7 buttons configured for page one of a keypad with four scenes, off, raise and lower.

5 The example above shows two sets of motorized curtain with each button acting as a toggle, allowing a curtain to open or close or stop if pressed again. Heating Control You can select Dynalite heating for any colour touch screen in your system. The Dynalite system must contain appropriate equipment to control the heating system such as temperature sensors and mains relays. The Dynalite software must also be configured to monitor actual temperate against set point temperature and switch on any floor heating/boilers etc as needed. Systemline does not operate a time clock function, so automatic set point modes throughout the day must be setup in the Dynalite software. Systemline allows day to day adjustment of comfort set point temperature, and zone mode. The temperature configuration in SystemNet simply allows you to configure the area number for adjustment and monitoring. You will need to know the Dynalite actual temperate and set point temperature area addresses for this.

6 There are four room modes available, each activated by a specific preset command in the correct area. Comfort Standby Night Frost Preset One Preset Two Preset Three Preset Four The Dynalite system should have a set point configured for each of these presets; Systemline will show these and then allow adjustment of Comfort only.
