2 Electric Power System in the 21st Century The Asia-Pacific Protection and Testing Conference (AP.PTC) is organized by OMICRON together with PAC World. It serves as a neutral platform for the protection community to acquire knowledge and trend of the latest available technologies and to understand the possibilities and the risks involved. A focus is put on the learning about testing and verification of modern IEC based protection environments. Numerous real life implementation examples and case studies shall give participants insights on what is happening right now in the industry around the world. Who should participate? Asia-Pacific Protection & Testing Conference 2018 Chairman Dr. Alexander Apostolov received MS degree in Electrical Engineering, MS in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D. from the Technical University in Sofia, Bulgaria.

He is IEEE Fellow and Member of the Power Systems Relaying Committee and Substations C0 Subcommittee.

He is member of IEC TC57 working groups 10, 17, 18 and 19. He is Distinguished Member of CIGRE and Convenor of CIGRE WG B5.

He holds four patents and has authored and presented more than 480 technical papers.

3 Asia-Pacific Protection & Testing Conference 2018 Chairman Dr. Alexander Apostolov received MS degree in Electrical Engineering, MS in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D. from the Technical University in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has 40 years experience in power systems protection, automation, control and communications. He is presently Principal Engineer for OMICRON electronics in Los Angeles, CA. He is IEEE Fellow and Member of the Power Systems Relaying Committee and Substations C0 Subcommittee. He is past Chairman of the Relay Communications Subcommittee, serves on many IEEE PES Working Groups and is Chairman of Working Groups C2 Role of Protective Relaying in Smart Grid. He is member of IEC TC57 working groups 10, 17, 18 and 19. He is Distinguished Member of CIGRE and Convenor of CIGRE WG B5.53 Test Strategy for Protection, Automation and Control (PAC) functions in a full digital substation based on IEC applications and member of several other CIGRE B5 working groups. He holds four patents and has authored and presented more than 480 technical papers. He is IEEE Distinguished Lecturer and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa. He is Editor-in-Chief of PAC World. Key Speakers Dr. Fred Steinhauser studied Electrical Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, where he obtained his diploma in 1986 and received a Dr. of Technical Sciences in In 1998 he joined OMICRON, where he worked on several aspects of testing power system protection. Since 2000 he worked as a product manager with a focus on power utility communication. Since 2014 he is active within the Power Utility Communication business of OMICRON, focusing on Digital Substations and serving as an IEC expert. Fred Steinhauser is a member of WG10 in the TC57 of the IEC and contributes the standard IEC He is one of the main authors of the UCA Implementation Guideline for Sampled Values (9-2LE). Within TC95 of IEC, he also contributes to IEC related topics. As a member of CIGRÉ he is active within the scope of SC D2 and SC B5. He also contributed to the synchrophasor standards IEEE C and IEEE C Christoph Brunner is the President and owner of it4power LLC, based in Switzerland and offering consulting services worldwide. He has over 25 years of experience with knowledge across several areas within the Utility Industry and of technologies from the Automation Industry. He has worked as a project manager at ABB Switzerland Ltd in the area of Power Technology Products in Zurich / Switzerland where he was responsible for the process close communication architecture of the automation system. He is the convener of IEC TC57 WG 10, the working group that creates and maintains the IEC standard. He is also member of WG 17, 18 and 19. He is senior member of IEEE-PES and IEEE-SA. He is an IEEE Fellow and he is active in several working groups of the IEEE-PSRC and a member of the PSRC main committee and the subcommittee H. He is international advisor to the board of the UCA international users group.
