1 Air Gauges are ideally suited to both harsh and controlled environments, as the Air Flow disperses coolants, oil, dust, etc., from the measuring area allowing high magnification measurement right at the work station. Due to the nature of its design, Air Gauging is non contact, which is particularly beneficial when checking highly polished or delicate components. Air Gauging is fast and allows the gauge to centralize itself so there is no searching for the right dimension. Air Gauging is extremely versatile for solving special dimensional conditions lending itself to checking the geometric relationship of part features in a compact, easy to interpret fashion.

A range of magnifications can be set within the Amplifier allowing the L.E.D. Bar Graph Display to have a choice of resolutions for both Metric and Imperial measurements. The utilisation of Green, Orange and Red L.E.D's simplifies the control of the production traffic. As such, the Airtronic Amplifier meets the needs of most applications. Digital and Analogue output has been combined to communicate with most Data collection devices, computers, printers, etc. for the recording of measurements and the production of statistical data. The PC Board operates on a digital signal function, all measurements are taken by a Micro Processor and 90% of the circuit comprises Digital Error correcting electronics giving high immunity to temperature and humidity fluctuations. 3 -3- The Casing of Extruded Aluminium, gives a robust construction, with a blue Structural Powder Coated finish for durability. The Airtronic is compatible with most other manufacturers' Air Plugs, Calipers and Rings. A full scale range of 0,200mm can be used in 0,002mm increments per LED down to a range of 0,010mm at 0,0001mm per LED. Change of magnification is achieved via an eight position Dipswitch behind a panel at the rear of the Airtronic as shown on the following chart. Electronic Cursors are set via the U ( ) L ( ) and S (Set) pressure pads situated above the LED display. Colour display of the LED panel shows as Orange for sizes below the Lower Limit Setting, Green for In Tolerance and Red for over the Upper Limit measurements. A T.I.R. Mode can be operated by plugging a switch into the D-type Socket at either the front or rear of the amplifier. The Airtronic operates on Digital Signals, and all measurements are taken by a Micro Processor. This results in an extremely high immunity to temperature and humidity fluctuations. Solid state electronics are used on the entire circuit and is thus relatively shockproof. A digital communication link allows connection to most Data Collection Devices. Being digital, the cmmunications link is error free and its immunity to electronic noise is much higher than other systems. 4 -4- TYPICAL APPLICATIONS AIR CALIPER GAUGES Air Caliper Gauges are used for checking outside diameters often where it is not feasible to use an Air Ring gauge. BASE WITH GUIDE CHUTES Air Rings may be used on a base and connected as normal to the Amplifier with a plastic Air Hose. Vee type or tube Guide Chutes can be fitted to one or both sides of the ring. AIR PROBES No 1 FLUSH JET Jet probes have an open end jet at the end and are ideal for measuring flatness or surfaces which cannot be touched. No 1 No 2 No 3 No 2 Special purpose probe for checking the spherical seat of constant velocity joints. No 3 PLUNGE JET PROBES For use where contact measurement is required.

5 -5- DIGITAL READOUT SYSTEM The V10-DRO can be mounted on top of the V10 Airtronic Column by removing the top lid, plugging the lead into the socket on the printed circuit board, and fastening the lid screw back with the feet in mid position. Alternatively, the DRO can be plugged into either the front or rear D socket for a more portable usage. At the rear of the unit is a communication link in an RS 232 format allowing connection to a P.C., or printer, to which direct measurements are transmitted. FUNCTIONS 1 Pass Number - Each DRO has its own individual pass number and will only operate when this number has been entered. When activated the DRO overrides the settings on the Column allowing a remote means of resetting the Column functions. Having made the necessary changes to the Column the Set Programme pad is pressed and no further alteration to the Column can be made until the pass number is re-entered. Should an incorrect number be entered the Column goes through the Test Pattern for the P.C. Board (hopefully being a deterrent for illegal fingers) and then request the correct pass number. 2 Absolute or Comparative Values can be set taking the midpoint of the scale as the datum. If a different datum point is required then simply set the corrected value at the midpoint. 3 Upper and Lower Electronic Cursors can be set, even when the Tolerance Protection Switch Seven is in the ON position on the Column, to display the tolerance points. 4 Upper and Lower Relay Positions - Can be set separately from the Upper and Lower Tolerance points to give a signal to the machine or computer, etc. when a component is, for example, going out of specification. When relay signals are in use the Upper and Lower cursors pulse to differentiate from the Upper and Lower relay positions. 5 Total Indicator Reading value is displayed when the Column is activated in the T.I.R. mode and not the component size., i.e. if the range displayed on the Column is 18,020mm to 18,060mm the display will read 0,0400mm.

If a different datum point is required, then set the corrected size at mid point. The same procedure is used as the basic column for setting Electronic Cursors As above The Electronic Cursors and relay points are now shown independently. To avoid con- fusion the electronic cursors now pulse and the relays are static. As above As above If you are satisfied the functions are set correctly, then set programme. Functions cannot be changed until Pass Number is re-entered. Data output can now be achieved by pressing Print Pad If you are not satisfied with the entered functions, press NO and the programme will return to SET VALUE NOTE: When the Airtronic Column is in the TIR mode, the digital readout will display the full TIR value
