8 3RS10/3RS11 Temperature Monitoring Relays Relays with analog settings Our 3RS10/3RS11 analog temperature monitoring relays are the specialists when it comes to measuring temperatures in solid, liquid and gaseous mediums. A sensor in the medium is used to determine the temperature. This is then evaluated by the device and monitored whether the measured value was within the range defined by the limit temperatures. Depending on how it is parameterized, the output relay either switches on or off at the threshold values. Your advantages: All of the versions are also available with innovative spring-loaded terminals All of the relays have electrical isolation exception: 24 V UC Can be simply handled using a rotary potentiometer Selectable hysteresis For devices with two threshold values, the operating principle can be selected Applications: Motor and plant protection Cabinet temperature monitoring Frost monitoring Temperature limits for process quantities, e. g. in the packaging industry or electroplating Controlling systems and machines such as heating, climate control and ventilation systems, solar collectors, heat pumps and warm water supplies Monitoring bearing and gearbox oil Monitoring cooling liquids 8

For relays with 2 threshold values, the adjustable hysteresis only acts on the 1st threshold value. A fixed hysteresis of 5 % acts on the 2nd threshold value. This product series was developed for applications where a setting accuracy of ±5 % is sufficient. 9

10 3RS10/3RS11 Temperature Monitoring Relays Relays with digital settings These relays are used to measure temperatures in solid, liquid and gaseous mediums. These relays also monitor temperatures to see whether they fall within a specific operating range (window function). This means that 3RS10 40 and 3RS11 40 relays fulfill requirements in compliance with DIN 3440 as temperature monitor. The 3RS10 42 and 3RS11 42 relays can be used as temperature limiting devices in accordance with DIN These represent a good alternative to temperature controllers in the low-end area. Your advantages: Simple to handle without complex menu prompting Certified according to DIN 3440 All of the relay versions are also available with innovative spring-loaded terminals 2- or 3-point control which can be quickly parameterized Applications: Plant and environmental protection Temperature limits for process quantities e. g. in the packaging industry or electroplating Temperature limits for heating systems Exhaust gas temperature monitoring Controlling plants and machines such as heating, climate control and ventilation systems, solar collectors, heat pumps and warm water supplies Monitoring motor, bearing and gearbox oil temperatures Monitoring the temperature of cooling liquids The short-circuit and wire breakage detection as well as the measuring range are, dependent on the sensor type, restricted: Measuring range in C for thermoelements Sensor Short Wire 3RS RS11 42 type circuit breakage measuring measuring range in C range in C J x K x T x E x N x S x R x B x Measuring range in C for resistance sensors Sensor Short Wire 3RS RS10 42 type circuit breakage measuring measuring range in C range in C PT100 x x PT1000 x x KTY x x KTY84 x x NTC 1) x ) NTC type: B57227-K333-A1 (100 C: 1.8 kω; 25 C: kω)

12 3RN1 Thermistor Motor Protection 3RN1 thermistor motor protection relays provide decisive advantages where currentdependent protection using either a circuit-breaker or an overload relay is not the ideal monitoring quantity: In specific cases, often caused by external defects, overheating can occur without this being able to be detected by the thermal image in the circuitbreaker or an overload relay. Examples include heavy-duty starting (e. g. centrifuges), operation with AC drive converters or frequent switching, braking operations or when cooling is restricted, e. g. due to accumulated dirt. Your advantages: The motor winding temperature is directly measured Only one relay is required for all motor power ratings Device/terminal labeling acc. to DIN EN for standard switching relays and for overload protective devices Relays with hard-gold-plated contacts for use under difficult conditions LEDs indicate wire breakage and short circuit in the sensor circuit All relay versions are alternatively equipped with screw or spring-loaded terminals Version with protective separation up to 300 V acc. to DIN/VDE 0106 as well as versions with bistable relay for special applications PTB 01 ATEX certification Applications: Alarm and trip function by using two sensor circuits with different response temperatures this means that it is possible to respond before shutting down (for example, additional cooling can be switched-in, the load reduced, etc.) Multi-motor protection using only one device, e. g. for conveyor lines for several motors which must be shut down together 12

18 3UG3 Monitoring Relays for level and speed 3UG3 monitoring relays are always used when non-electrical quantities have to be monitored. Almost every liquid is conductive. This characteristic is used to monitor filling levels. If the probes dip into the liquid, then current flows if the probes are not in the liquid, current no longer flows. This allows reliable 2-point controls and alarm messages to be implemented for overflow or dry running operation. Sensors connected to the motor monitor speeds. These supply one pulse per revolution and one signal edge is evaluated. This also means that stationary motors are reliably detected. Your advantages: Level monitoring: 2- and 3-pole wire electrodes, can be very simply mounted from the top Bar-type electrodes for mounting at the side for higher levels and minimum space requirement Sensitivity can be set between 0 and 100 kohm 22.5 mm wide Speed monitoring: Selectable measuring ranges 2- or 3-wire sensors can be connected Sensors with mechanical switches or electronic outputs can be connected Auxiliary voltage for the sensor is integrated in the device Applications: Level monitoring: 1- and 2-point level monitoring Overflow protection Dry-running protection Leakage monitoring Speed monitoring: Slip/breakage of a belt drive Standstill monitoring (no personnel protection) Transport element monitoring for completeness Underspeed condition: + AC PNP A V RES IN1 0V 11 A2 IN2 + 8V NSB NAMUR

20 Interface Relays Narrow Design 3TX70 interface relays 3TX70 interface relays are available in two basic versions. The 3TX7004/05/01 series is just 6.2 mm wide: This series means that the interface relays take up a lot less space in the electrical cabinet. Then we have our 3TX7002/03 series: They are suitable for mounting in small electrical cabinets with low depth and with short distances between the mounting rails. Both series are available with an extensive range of input and output interfaces. Your advantages: 3TX7002/03 and 3TX7004/05 Operating range from 0.7 to 1.25 V S at 24 V DC up to 60 C Protective circuit is integrated in the input High degree of reliability using a relay which is soldered-in Connection comb and cable to connect voltages at the same potential Manual-0-automatic switch for easier commissioning Your advantages: 3TX7014 Plug-in relay that can be quickly replaced with pre-assembled wiring Conductors are introduced and clamped from the front therefore lower wiring times Tested, complete devices reduce installation times Individual relays are available as spare part Relay version with hard gold-plated contacts therefore high contact reliability Applications: Electrical isolation Voltage conversion e. g. from 24 V DC to 230 V AC Signal amplification Contact multiplication General relay controls Overvoltage and EMC protection of controls Engineering information: When selecting the interface for rated control supply voltages of 110 V AC and 230 V AC relays, the maximum missible cable length must be carefully observed. 22 Interface Relays Narrow Design 3TX70 semiconductor interfaces Interface modules are available with either conventional relays or semiconductors. Compared to interface relays, semiconductor-type interfaces offer some significant advantages: The electronic components are extremely reliable and long-lasting (refer to the diagram below). The input interface combines the best of both worlds improved technical features and a lower price. When considering output interfaces, the question of relay or semiconductor needs to be taken into account as well as the making/breaking capacity and the number of switching cycles. If a relay has to be replaced just once during the complete lifetime of a machine, then a semiconductor interface will already have paid for itself. Your advantages: Favorably priced and reliable: Input interfaces with semiconductor output Graduated series of output interfaces with semiconductors Extremely long electrical life Extremely good contact reliability High DC making/breaking capacity Applications: Providing electrical isolation, converting voltages Switching DC loads Switching capacitive loads High number of switching cycles Overvoltage and EMC protection of controls Comparison of lifetimes Probability of failure high average low Start of wear for mechanical components Probability of failure for electronic components Lifetime Electronic interface modules have a significantly higher lifetime than electromechanical devices Voltages at the same potential can be simply jumpered using the accessories Using semiconductor interfaces Electronic control Actuators Input Output 24 V DC M Semiconductor interface Solenoid valve 22

28 3RS17 Interface Converters Normalized signal and universal converters Interface converters are mainly used to isolate and convert analog signals. Sensors/actuators and controls generally have different power supply units and therefore require electrical isolation in the signal circuit. This is either integrated in the control or is implemented using an interface converter. A signal must be converted into another signal if, for instance, a voltage signal needs to be transmitted over a long distance as a current signal or if the output of a sensor and the input of a control system are not compatible with one another. Frequency outputs can be used for an additional application. In this case, the input signal is converted into a proportional frequency. This means that analog signals can be processed with digital inputs. This is important if the control does not allow an analog input to be installed or if all of its analog inputs are already assigned. This can occur, for example, when devices are retrofitted. Your advantages: Narrow Easy-to-set universal converter Converters with frequency output All ranges are fully calibrated Unified family of devices the ideal solution for every application Integrated manual-automatic switch with adjustable setpoint Outputs are short-circuit-proof Up to 30 V protected against damage caused by faulty wiring Applications: Electrical isolation of analog signals Converting analog signals Converting analog signals into a frequency Converting from non-normalized into normalized signals Overvoltage protection for analog inputs Engineering information: Passive converters draw the power they require from the analog signal. They do not require their own power supply. For 2-way isolation, the input is electrically isolated from the output and from the power supply, output and power supply are at the same potential. For 3-way isolation, all of the three circuits are isolated from one another. 28

30 3TG10 Power Relays and SITOP Power Supplies 3TG10 power relays come through with flying colors wherever low-noise relays or contactors are required and that at a low price. The power relays are suitable for basic controls, and especially for use in large series equipment and control systems. They are ideal for applications which only need an auxiliary contact and not an overload relay yet at the same time demand a higher making/breaking capacity, additional switching voltage and a longer lifetime. Your advantages: Can be mounted in any position, hum-free Protective separation Can be screwed or inserted Integrated auxiliary contact AC-3 power: 4 kw/400 V Operating current I e /AC-1: 20 A/400 V Inrush current per phase: 90 A Integrated overvoltage damping Slimline design, only 36 mm wide Applications: Domestic appliances and installation Hoisting systems: Small elevators, elevating platforms Building services, hum-free devices in building systems, e. g. in hospitals Engineering information: When the three main current paths conduct 20 A, for I > 10 A for the fourth current path: Permissible ambient temperature 40 C. 6EP1 SITOP wide-voltage range power supply units The 6EP1 primary switched-mode SITOP wide-voltage range power supply units in a narrow 22.5 mm housing were especially developed as ballast for standard products if unusual supply voltages and/or wide operating ranges have to be catered for. These devices have wide input voltage ranges and a 22 V DC output. This means that you can use standard units for almost all power supply voltages which are used. This cuts out the costs for special designs and reduces engineering times. Your advantages: Only 22.5 mm wide Wide input voltage range Low weight High degree of efficiency Applications: Voltage ballast for all voltage ranges Voltage ballast for wide operating ranges 30
