The whole family of ERL s Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) and Feeder Remote Terminal Unit (FRTU) covers a broad spectrum of use with products of different sizes for various applications. The ER1000 is specifically architected for use with medium to large numbers of data points, and is well suited across a range of power system applications. ER 1000 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), the building block of ERL Substation Automation system is designed to meet the present day utility and industry demands. The RTU is built on internationally well proven hardware and software platform. The standard hardware platform gives the necessary ruggedness and the RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) provides the multi-tasking and Real-Time data handling capability. Digital Input Module Central Processing Unit 16 Opto Isolated Channels supporting direct field input voltages of 24 / 48 / 110 / 220 VDC. Software Programmable Debounce Timers. Protection against reverse polarity. 1 common for a group of 8 channels. LED indication for each channels for identification of healthiness of field signal and also separate card healthiness indication. The design incorporates dedicated processors to manage the time critical intensive Real-Time process involved in computer control and monitoring environment. (Cold Fire core Processor delivering 76 MIPS at 80 MHz running from internal flash memory with Enhanced Multiply Accumulate (MAC) Unit and hardware divider). The dedicated communication processor provides Real-Time exchange between IEDs of multiple protocols to SCADA systems. The CPU has on board Ethernet port and multiple serial ports and Memory Module. CPU healthiness, Communication Indications etc are provided for easy diagnosis. Power Supply Module The Rack is provided with a high speed intelligent back plane and supports Slot Concept (any card at any slot). Backplane design supports redundancy of CPU and Power Supply modules. Rack and back planes are available in different sizes of 4U 19 and 4U 19/2 (inches) with flush mount arrangement. A wide range of communication media is supported with options such as: Leased line modem Dial-up PSTN modem CDMA/GPRS/GSM modules Fiber optic interface Interface for connection to PLC s radios, satellite, etc. Reliability Since the Remote Terminal Unit is the component of a SCADA/control system exposed to the most severe environmental conditions, reliability has been a key consideration throughout the development of ER1000. The unit is self-monitoring and in the unlikely event of a malfunction, this is reported to the master station at the first possible opportunity. Modular architecture for performance and flexibility The ER1000 has a modular design of both hardware and software. It can be equipped with input & output modules and power supply circuitry to match the specific requirements of each application. RTU CAPACITY Single rack supporting up to 208 I/O s. Multiple rack expansion supported over Ethernet. Up to Five racks can be stacked for better performance supporting 1040 I/O s. Up to 16 IEDs on Legacy RS485 bus for optimum performance SOE record storage is supported in chronological order. +/- 1 msec I/O scanning resolution and time stamping. Easy Commissioning and Maintenance Tools ER1000 is as easy to use, as it is flexible. Installation is quick and uncomplicated also commissioning and testing is likewise simple. Parameter setting and testing The software used for parameter setting / configuration of the ER1000 is based on easy to understand menus and features extensive help manual. Protocol permitting, parameterization can also be done by down loading files from the central station (LAN / WAN). The tools make it possible to test the RTU locally / remotely (Ethernet based Config Tool) to diagnose malfunctions, confirm the configuration or check process connections.

5 Maintenance The ruggedness and reliability of the ER1000 make it maintenance free and requires no further attention once installed.
