2 epaq-94xx Series Protocol Stack Has been Enhanced for Greater Security and Interoperability The new epaq-94xx from CG Automation Solutions USA recently had its viability for implementing the Smart Grid enhanced by incorporating a new protocol stack for use with IEDs and substation master station communications. epaq-9420 Multifunction A protocol stack is the aggregate software to allow substation gateways (such as the epaq- 94XX platforms) to speak consistently with intelligent electronic devices and master stations from CGA or other manufacturers. This software module will permit prioritization of data such that real-time operational data (breaker status, bus voltage, etc.) to be reported along with nonoperational data (event file uploads from IEDs, sequence of events data, housekeeping and configuration files, etc.) on the same communications channel. Real-time data would be reported quickly, while less important data could be transferred during times of lesser system activity. In this way the SCADA system would address the needs of both the dispatch and engineering group within a utility. Because of the large number of Intelligent electronic devices and SCADA systems, a set of industry standard protocols have been developed to provide near plug-and-play capability. This new, high quality protocol stack, will let a new device, which conforms to the standard, be easily added on to your SCADA system. Since this protocol stack is used for all of our more modern platforms (epaq-94xx, 6NIA-2, 6ACP6),separate modules need not be generated for each existing and new device. The same stack will work with all, thus a tested, field proven module, will work on all platforms. Because the same module works with all platforms, the functionality of the stack is separated from the other functions of the device resulting in lower development and maintenance costs. This repeated use of the same protocol stack by CGA also epaq-9405 Multifunction produces benefits as the protocol standards mature and evolve over the years. Only one protocol stack need be maintained and modified for the changing smart grid environment. This new protocol stack is most relevant to the two standards prevalent in the current utility space: DNP3 and IEC While DNP3 is the overwhelming favorite in the North American and Australasian markets, CGA must also have an interoperability with the IEC protocol popular in other areas. For additional information concerning this enhancement, call your local CG Automation Solutions representative or contact: epaq-94xx Web Test Panel Makes Installation and Troubleshooting Easier The CG Automation Web Test Panel (WTP) allows the user to interface with CG Automation gateways and monitor the correct operation of all connected I/O and communication ports. WTP permits the user to monitor hardwired or IED based analog, status, and accumulator points, set points and control points as well as configuration elements (such as DIP switch position, etc.). It also allows the user to execute values on output points: control points and set points and force values on all input points: status points, analog points and accumulators. The Web Test Panel also acts as a sophisticated, SCADA specific, protocol analyzer for quick analysis of your substation gateway and IED communications. The WTP provides real time display of raw communications traffic and the dissected human readable equivalent on any master station or IED communications port (both serial and TCP/IP). When equipped with a suitable serial or TCP/IP based communication channel, the ecap-9450 provides SCADA functionality via DNP3 or other current or legacy protocol from the 6ACP6 library in order to smoothly integrate with your larger distribution management system. The ecap-9450 accepts voltage and current inputs from either line post sensors or PTs and CTs. Capacitor switching may be based on either voltage or kvar, with a local voltage override option included, which has precedence over kvar control. Neutral current detection is also present. The +12VDC, 2.0A power supply provides power for both the 6ACP6 board itself and a user supplied radio. Six control relay outputs (each rated at 10A/250VAC) are arranged as 3 trip/ close pairs for independent or ganged control of three cap bank switches. Front panel switches are included for Phases A,B,C open/close and auto/manual, local/remote and lock-out. 7 CG Automation Solutions USA Products are not Susceptible to the Shellshock Software Bug Shellshock, also known as Bashdoor, is one of the latest computer exploits which have been identified and spread on the Internet. This family of security bugs uses the UNIX Bash Shell as it s attack vector and was discovered in September While the Bash shell was used initially in systems utilizing the UNIX operating system, it has been exported to other platforms and is used by many web servers, industrial controllers and embedded systems. Exploiting this bug allows the Bash Shell to process certain instructions submitted by a hacker, such that the attacked platform will execute arbitrary commands. This can allow a computer hacker to gain unauthorized control of the targeted system or device. targets which need to be patched. The good security practices of utilities produce big dividends during an occurrence such as this. The National Cyber Awareness System (under the Department of Homeland Security), has assigned an identifier of CVE to this threat, and users should take steps to protect their other systems and components. 8 exp-9435 Substation Communications Port Expander The exp-9435 is a compact addition to your epaq- 941XX Multifunction, which expands the number of serial or IP ports for access to additional devices or IEDs. Housed in a 19 width enclosure with a 1U footprint, the exp-9435 has rear access connections for convenient rack mounting. Serial communications ports may be accessed through rear panel fiber ST connectors or DB-9 connectors The exp-9435 provides 16 additional ports which are convertible RS-232C or RS-485 and may be allocated on a per port basis. Optionally, these may be provided as eight serial fiber ports with eight ST (multimode) connectors, or as a mix of eight RS- 232/485 ports and four fiber ports. The 10/100 BaseTX connection is through a standard RJ-45 connector, with the 100 BaseFX interface using standard ST fiber connectors. The exp-9430 can also accept hardwired, status, analog and control connections through optional, distributed, I/O panels which may be co-located or placed remotely within the substation.
