LITETOUCH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The LiteTouch Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer is a configurable lighting control device, that when used in conjunction with the FIVEk CCU C2000+ Card can become a component of a LiteTouch Lighting Control System. LiteTouch Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers allow for control of the following Load Types: - DIMMER Mode: Incandescent, (MLV) Magnetic Low Voltage and Electronic Transformer (See Fig.3) - RELAY Mode: In RELAY Mode this device acts like a toggle switch to activate attached loads such as fluorescent lighting, etc. (See Fig. 3) WARNING - Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer is set with the following default settings. - RF (Radio Frequency) Mode is the default communication mode. When installing via Cat5, switch the dip switch to WIRED Mode position to ensure equipment communication. - MLV (Magnetic Low-voltage) Mode or forward phase is the default fixture type. When driving transformer coupled loads, the actual load wattage must be at least 80% of the transformers V/A rating or transformer hum, flashing and/or damage may occur. When connecting to an ELV (Electronic Low-Voltage) transformer or inverse phase load, switch the dip switch to ELV/Normal Mode. - RELAY Mode is the default functionality mode. When dimming a load, switch the dip switch to DIMMER Mode position to ensure proper functionality. PRE-INSTALLATION - Functionality Selection: Dip Switch Configurations Figure 1 - Front view of 3-button device Switch 1 - The RF/WIRED switch determines communication method, either via CAT5 Wired or RF (radio frequency) Wireless Mode. 2 PRE-INSTALLATION - Device Identity: Address wheels For system recognition and response, Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer Address Wheels must be set. Addresses can be either manually selected and entered into LiteWare Design and Programming Software, or LiteWare can auto assign device addresses. (See Fig. 2) Note: - When you set the address of the device, both Station and Module communication will utilize the same address. - Addresses that are called out at the time of order are preset at the factory. Address wheels must be set at each device. - Available address range is 00 thru FF ; 256 possible addresses. Maximum of 64 Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers per system. - Address 00 is reserved for Local Mode. In Local Mode, the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer will allow for control of only the local load that the device is attached to. Local load control on one and three button wall box dimmers is on the middle button. Local load control on six button wall box dimmers is on the top left button. INSTALLATION - Overview & Multi-Gang Installation Preparation Wiring for the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer consists of both High Voltage Wiring and Low Voltage Wiring (required for Wired mode). Connections are made via two different wiring methods: 1. RJ-45 Connector. Eight wires allowing for Station and Module Bus communication over a CAT-5 cable.(required for Wired Mode). 2. High Voltage Connector. Five terminal lugs for solid AWG High Voltage wires (ROMEX) used to power the wall box dimmer, the local load and allow for 3-way control. (See Fig. 5) Avoid Crowding the Wires Too many wires forced behind the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer may indirectly apply pressure on the device that may damage the unit. To avoid this, do not crowd the high-voltage wires and wire nuts behind the device. Figure 3 - Capacity & Derating Details (120 & 240 Volt) Incandescent Dimmer/Relay Mode 1-Gang: 700 W 2-Gang: 700 W 3-Gang: 600 W 4-Gang: 500 W 5-Gang: 400 W 6-Gang: 350 W Magnetic Low Voltage Dimmer Mode 1-Gang: 600 W 2-Gang: 600 W 3-Gang: 500 W 4-Gang: 400 W 5-Gang: 300 W 6-Gang: 250 W Electronic Low Voltage Dimmer Mode 1-Gang: 350 W 2-Gang: 350 W 3-Gang: 300 W 4-Gang: 250 W 5-Gang: 200 W 6-Gang: 175 W Relay Mode 1-Gang: 700 W 2-Gang: 700 W 3-Gang: 600 W 4-Gang: 500 W 5-Gang: 400 W 6-Gang: 350 W Prior to installation, ensure plastic terminal guard is properly connected. This will provide additional protection from shorts due to over-crowded wiring. Note: For ease of installation, deep back boxes are recommended. Figure 4 - View of Multi-Gang Installation Multi-Gang Installation To create a multi-gang wall box dimmer, a LiteTouch multi-gang alignment ring must be utilized. To attach the alignment ring to the wall box dimmer, tighten the four screws per gang (two top and two bottom). This will evenly position each single gang Wall Box Dimmer within the multi-gang metal alignment ring allowing for a smooth faceplate attachment. (See Fig. 4) Note: Any Designer Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers designed in LiteWare, and ordered with complete design guides will be preassembled with the multi-gang alignment ring at the LiteTouch factory. LOW VOLTAGE WIRING - Preparation & Pre-Wire Instructions To Pre-Wire for Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers, used in WIRED mode, pre-wire by running, in series, CAT5 cable to each location. Figure 5 - Rear and top view of device Note: Ensure the low voltage wiring in the backbox is inserted into the 600 volt rated sleeve included. Failure to do so may result in an electrical code violation and failure to pass inspection. CAT5 wiring insulation must run up to the RJ-45 connector. Do not strip off additional insulation. YOU MAY RUN THE RISK OF FIRE IF INSULATION IS REMOVED BEYOND THE CONNECTOR. MLV MODE SWITCH 4 ELV MODE SWITCH 3 TERMINAL 3-WAY TERMINAL A maximum of 16 Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers can be run in a series. Do not exceed 1000 feet per run. At the start of each run, pull a CAT5 cable from the wall box dimmer to the location of the LiteTouch CCU. Be sure to terminate at the end of each run. GROUND TERMINAL NEUTRAL TERMINAL LINE TERMINAL If no enclosures are being used, pull the CAT5 cable directly to the FIVEk, Standard or Compact CCU location. Follow the instructions below to tie the CAT5 Cable into LiteTouch Station & Module Bus. 2
