4 Surge protection for MCR technology Main range For the perfect application PLUGTRAB PT is the name of the range of surge protection devices for MCR technology. The practical requirements have determined the requirement profile of this product range. Very little space required, solution-oriented circuit technology, impedance-neutral plugging and unplugging, low price level and maximum performance these are not the only advantages that PLUGTRAB PT has to offer. The two-part design provides the user with the utmost convenience when it comes to maintenance. The base element always remains an integral part of the installation. There is no need for complex operations during overhaul work, for example. Whether two, three or four-wire measurement technology, PLUGTRAB PT offers the perfect solution for all applications. Thanks to impedance-neutral plugging and unplugging, the sensitive signal circuits, e.g. temperature measurements or bus systems, are not influenced when replacing the protective plug. 7 Surge protection for MCR technology Selection guide The selection of surge protection devices for MCR technology depends on several factors. The necessary protective circuit is mainly determined by the type of signal circuit. The corresponding distinction is made in the first columns of the adjacent table. In the case of binary switching signals, grounded and ungrounded operation must be distinguished between. Further selection criteria refer to the design of the housing. The connection method and the required space must suit the installation environment. Convenience aspects speak for modules with a two-part design that consist of a plug and a base element. In the event of maintenance, it is therefore not necessary to tamper with the installation. 9 D rail modules Pluggable surge protection MCR-PLUGTRAB PT PLUGTRAB PT /FM are two-piece pluggable surge protection modules used to protect signal circuits. The PT /FM arresters are monitored continuously and independent of a diagnostic unit without affecting the signal to be protected. The status is optically signaled and can be monitored with the integrated floating remote indication contact. Due to the onsite indication, damaged protective plugs can be detected immediately and replaced cost-effectively. PT /FM requires an external power supply for signaling and monitoring. The STEP-PS-00-0 AC/ DC/,5 power supply unit is recommended. The base element continues to be a fixed component of the installation whereas the plugs for testing and maintenance can simply be pulled out. Fine protection elements guarantee a low voltage threshold in conjunction with fast response. The gas-filled surge arresters ensure high discharge capacity. When dealing with cable shieldings, either a direct or an indirect connection to local ground is possible, depending on the base element used. 35 D rail modules Surge protection for PROCESS TERFACE basic terminal blocks TT-PI The TT-PI- modular basic terminal blocks serve as the basic element to wire the pluggable PROCESS TERFACE PI modules (see the TERFACE catalog). They contain a powerful and multi-stage protective circuit on the input-side comprising gas-filled surge arresters and suppressor diodes. This circuit version ensures a quick response and a high arrest capacity. A surge voltage resistant contacting to the D rail is created by snapping them onto it. TT-PI-TB has been designed for applications that do not require intrinsically safe signals. The surge protection circuits of the Ex variants take into account the requirements in intrinsically safe circuits by creating a respect distance of 500 V to all metal installations and other circuits. For applications with intrinsically safe signals, the basic terminal block TT-PI-EX-TB is required.
