SAFETY NOTES & GENERAL SERVICING ADVICE 1. This manual is NOT intended as a comprehensive repair/maintenance guide to the appliance. 2. It should ONLY be used by suitably qualified persons having technical competence applicable product knowledge and suitable tools and test equipment. 3. Servicing of electrical appliances must be undertaken with the appliance disconnected (unplugged) from the electrical supply. 4. Servicing must be preceded by Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance checks. 5. Personal safety precautions must be taken to protect against accidents caused by sharp edges on metal and plastic parts. 6. After servicing the appliance must be rechecked for Electrical Safety. In the case of appliances which are connected to a water supply (i.e.: Washing Machines, Dishwashers & Food Centres etc.) checks must be made for leaks from seals gaskets and pipe work and rectification carried out where necessary. 7. It can be dangerous to attempt 'DIY' repairs / maintenance on complex equipment and the Company recommends that any problem with the appliance is referred to its own Service Organisation. 8. Whilst the Company has endeavoured to ensure the accuracy of the data within this publication they cannot hold themselves responsible for any inconvenience or loss occasioned by any error within. 9. The appliance may be manufactured with a '3 phase' motor and uses a different type of power module. This power board is fitted with a large aluminium heat sink which remains live after the power is disconnected. Under no circumstances should the board be removed under the time shown below. Alternative 'quick methods' of discharging the board SHOULD NOT be used or attempted! IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE Risk of Electric Shock The metal heatsink fitted on the Power Module may hold an electrical charge for a short period after switching off the machine. Allow 5 minutes after disconnecting the machine from the electrical supply before commencing ANY work. 2

INTRODUCTION It is important to read this guide and view the illustrations carefully before attempting to programme any Eeprom. PROGRAMME USES. Eeprom Writer has been introduced to enable Indesit Engineers to programme Eeproms from their Emit terminal. This saves on van stock levels due to common Eeproms being used, and also saves unwanted SSRs to complete a repair. The programme can be used to establish the current File Version loaded to the Eeprom using the Get from Hardware setting. It can programme a blank Service Eeprom /over write a programmed Eeprom fitted onto a power board, or programme /over write a factory fitted soldered Eeprom. The software will work with: - Laundry Appliances manufactured with Evo 1 software. - Laundry Appliances manufactured with Evo 2 software. FILES All Eeprom files are stored on the Emit terminal and updated as Emit receives normal updates. The files should be loaded using two search methods (see Page 31): CHECKS AND POINTS TO REMEMBER. Ensure that for all Evo 1 type appliances that the machine is in a reset position and turned on at the mains and via on/off button. Evo 2 type appliances need to be switched on at the mains only. After programming or re-programming an Eeprom, it is essential that a functional test is carried out using Wash Doctor 1 or 2 programme to establish that the appliance functions correctly. For Tumble Dryers, a manual functional test should be carried out. Tumble dryers are all EVO 2 based. Do not run Eeprom Writer at the same time as any Wash Doctor programme. 5

CONNECTION Connection. After replacing the relevant Eeprom or Power Board to the appliance, connect the Hardware Key to the Emit via the USB cable and switch on the appliance. USB Cable - USB Connector Hardware Key USB Cable Serial Connector A Green led illuminates on the key for all models. During communication with the software Orange and Red Leds on the Hardware Key will flash intermittently. If the Hardware Key is not inserted correctly or the pins are bent, the Green led may still be illuminated but the connection will still not work. Ensure the Key is not damaged before use. The appliance might show an error at this point. For Evo1 appliances disconnect from the mains supply and proceed. For Evo2 appliances turn off via the On/Off switch and proceed. 9
USING THE SOFTWARE STARTING the PROGRAMME from the EMIT Toolbar Using the dropdown task bar select Washing Machine Doctor icon. This will launch the multi-button box shown. Next, select Eeprom Writer button to launch the main screen. 10
USING THE SOFTWARE cont MAIN SCREEN This screen will launch when the programme opens. In Communication Settings use the Hardware Key type switch to ensure the Black key icon is displayed. The White icon is for Original keys which are no longer used. 11
USING THE SOFTWARE cont SETTINGS Select the Target Settings and Eep Size Appliance should be set as follows: Select LB EVO I for Evo 1 based software (some Eeprom Writer versions show LB2000). Select LB EVO II for Evo 2 based software. The Mode and Baud settings are automatically set by Appliance type. LB EVO I = UART LB EVO II = IIC BUS. The Port should be set automatically. If not, refer to Engineers Info page on Emit. Eep Size should be set as follows: Select 8kb for Evo 1 and Evo 2 based software. 12
USING THE SOFTWARE cont SETTINGS Select the Open button and ensure the GREEN light illuminates 13
USING THE SOFTWARE cont SEARCHING FOR EEPROM FILE LOADED GET FROM HARDWARE The Get from Hardware selection is used if you wish to search for the file (if loaded) already to the Eeprom. This method is not used if the Eeprom is new and blank! 14
USING THE SOFTWARE cont SEARCHING FOR EEPROM FILE COMMERCIAL CODE 2. Select Commercial Code. Input the Commercial Code in the Code box and the Serial number in the S/N box. Refer to Page
USING THE SOFTWARE cont SEARCHING FOR EEPROM FILE PART NUMBER 3. Select Part Number. Input the Part number of the Eeprom file in the Code box. Refer to Page
USING THE SOFTWARE cont ENTERING INFORMATION Enter information in the Code box and S/N boxes for Commercial Code option. Enter information in the Code box for Part Number option. No information is required for Get from Hardware option. Press Search. Refer to Page
USING THE SOFTWARE cont The File to download, Description (Model), Factory Code, Serial, File Size and Check will appear. Ensure the correct model is displayed in the Description box and Check box displays OK. 18
USING THE SOFTWARE continued Press the Download button During the Download process the Hardware Key will flash ORANGE and RED Leds. 19
USING THE SOFTWARE cont After the file has downloaded a Verify bar will appear. During the Verify process the Hardware key will flash ORANGE and RED Leds. 20
USING THE SOFTWARE cont After the Verify bar has completed, if SUCCESS is displayed in the Operation Result then the Eeprom has been re-programmed. Exit the programme and disconnect the appliance from the mains supply (Evo 1-10 secs and reset)(evo 2-30 secs) then launch the relevant Washing Machine Doctor programme to run appliance tests (Wet Laundry Only). Refer to the correct Washing Machine Doctor User Guide for more information. 21
PROGRAMMING / FITTING BLANK EEPROMS For Evo1 appliances re-connect to the mains supply after ensuring the appliance is in a reset position. You have 20 seconds to press the Download button before the appliance detects an error. Even if an error appears, press the Download button and when Success is displayed in Eeprom Writer, the timer will stop turning and the pump will stop. The error may still show on the Hardware Key and the Console LEDs still flash. Disconnect from the mains supply for ten seconds and test using the relevant Wash Doctor programme (Wet Laundry Only). For Evo 2 appliances press the Download button even if an error is showing. When Success is displayed in Eeprom Writer, the error may still show on the display (where fitted), on the Hardware Key, or the Console LEDs may flash. Disconnect from the mains supply for 30 seconds and test with the relevant Wash Doctor programme (Wet Laundry Only). 22
ERRORS 1. Check Appliance in Target Settings is correct. 2. Check connection of the Hardware Key to Emit and Hardware Key to appliance. 23
ERRORS Check the file size in the Eep Size' box 24
ERRORS If EEPROM WRITE ERROR or EEPROM READ ERROR appears in the Operation result box, check ALL settings of the programme, connection of the appliance, Emit, Power board fitting and if using a blank Eeprom, ensure it has been fitted correctly to the Power board. 25
ERRORS If the INVALID KEY FORMAT box appears, ignore and click OK. If the programme does not continue check all connections and settings 26
ERRORS The most common reason for this fault is shown below: When booting up the Emit unit the USB cable is inserted before the Windows System is fully operational on the unit. Remove the cable and re-insert for it to be detected. 27
ERRORS If during the writing process the software freezes or the appliance will not respond the following action should be taken: EVO 1 APPLIANCES Switch off and unplug from the power supply for 10 seconds, reset the machine, wait 10 seconds and re-start the process. EVO 2 & V4 APPLIANCES Switch off and unplug from the power supply for 30 seconds and re-start the process. It is important to select the correct appliance type and Eeprom file. If you cannot find the file via the search methods then contact your Helpdesk. If you interrupt or switch off the programming of an Eeprom disconnect the appliance from the mains supply then restart the Eeprom Write Programmer and completely reprogramme the Eeprom again. It is essential to disconnect the appliance from the mains supply immediately after programming of the Eeprom is completed. This is to ensure the correct appliance information is displayed by the relevant Wash Doctor 1 or 2 programme when you carry out a function test. For Tumble Dryers it is essential to disconnect the appliance from the mains supply after programming and before carrying out manual functional tests. Remember: ALL settings and connections need to be checked carefully if a problem appears. 28
ERRORS Cont. Comm Port Closed This can appear after first installing USB drivers or when first connecting the USB cable when opening the software - Removing the cable and then reconnecting it normally overcomes this issue. Communication Error Normally due to a mismatch of the Comm Port setting of the software compared with the computer being used - Ensure USB lead is plugged into correct socket and correct version of Wash Doctor is being used. Invalid Key Format Random error message which generally can be ignored by pressing OK - Recheck all settings for the type of Eeprom / appliance being tested/ programmed. If using Part Number search enter UK before Hotpoint style part numbers. Impossible to read key Bad connection of key or cable between appliance and computer. Check connections. Size of target is smaller than file size Wrong size setting of Eeprom type. Change setting in EEP SIZE BOX to 8KB. EEPROM READ or EEPROM WRITE ERROR Software cannot talk to the Eeprom. Check all settings, connection of the power module and orientation of Eeprom in power board, reset Appliance settings and try again. Wrong information displayed in Washing Machine Doctor Ensure appliance is disconnected from the mains supply for the correct time period after reprogramming an Eeprom before using WMD for diagnostics. Ensure correct file was downloaded to Eeprom. Search Key Not Found Enter serial number for machine in S/N field where applicable. Not Possible to do the checksum Random error on Wash Doctor I and also means that the software cannot match the type of file or Eeprom to the version of programme being used Check ALL settings 29
RESTORE If you wish clear any information and re-input settings, press Restore and it will clear all entry boxes and default back to Get From Hardware. 30
