3 lntroduction This document explains the Metasys Integrator United Power application. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5), which provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For information on vendor equipment, see United Power documentation (obtainable from United Power representative). Application Details Metasys Integrator allows United Power Corporation equipment to become an integral part of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks. Once a United Power Corporation Focus Interface Module (FIM) is connected to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator, its data is available to the full complement of Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, trend, and totalization. United Power Corporation produces power distribution and monitoring equipment for computer room applications. The Type 1 Focus Interface Module allows the power distribution and monitoring equipment to be monitored at a central location. The FIM was designed to be connected to the United Power Focus Central Monitoring System. This application of Metasys Integrator allows the FIM to become a node on the Metasys Network. The FIMs are networked together via RS-422 and can communicate with Metasys Integrator using an RS-232 to RS-422 converter. Each FIM is connected to the RS-422 network and assigned a unique address between 1 and 126. Since each FIM occupies two addresses (its assigned address for analog points, assigned address + 1 for binary points), the maximum number of FIMs that can be addressed on a Metasys Integrator vendor port is 63. Since RS-422 only supports ten devices without a repeater installed, a repeater is needed to obtain the maximum number of FIMs. Figure 1 shows a sample FIM network configuration. Notice in the figure that the FIM addresses have been assigned to odd numbers only (i.e., 1, 3, etc.). This is because the FIM s digital points are read by a command that has the FIM address + 1. Therefore, no two FIMs on a network should have consecutive addresses. The FIM address is set at the front panel of the FIM. Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator United Power Application 3

5 The model 422LPCON RS-232 to RS-422 converter, available from B&B Electronics, has worked well for this application. You also need a 9-pin female to 25-pin female RS-232 cable, and a cable supplied by United Power for connecting to TB11 of the FIM. Configure the cables as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The TB11 and TB12 connectors on the FIM require a special 5-pin connector. The cables needed to daisy chain the FIMs should be ordered directly from United Power. The cable between the FIM and the converter should be have the 5-pin connector on one end (for connecting to the FIM) and no connector on the other end (for connecting to the terminal block on the converter). You may need to use an ohmmeter to identify the wires you connect to the terminal block on the converter. Component Requirements Metasys Release Requirements To integrate United Power FIMs, you need the following: properly installed Focus Interface Modules (Type 1, 2, or 3) RS-232 cable model 422LPCON RS-232 to RS-422 converter and 422PS2 power supply from B&B Electronics Metasys Integrator N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys or Companion Network) portable Personal Computer (PC) for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information, and for running diagnostics cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into Metasys Integrator (supplied on diskette) This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. United Power Corporation documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). To integrate United Power Corporation equipment into the Metasys Network, you need: Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or higher Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator United Power Application 5

6 Metasys Companion Release Requirements Vendor Component Requirements Vendor Contact Information To integrate United Power Corporation equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you need: Metasys Companion Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or higher Integration between Metasys Integrator and United Power Corporation equipment has been tested with the United Power Corporation Type 1 Focus Interface Module and B&B Electronics 422LPCON RS-232 to RS-422 converter. Changes to this equipment or integration of United Power or B&B Electronics products not discussed in this document will require additional development and testing by Systems Products. For information on integrating other products, refer to the Custom Integration section in this technical bulletin. (The United Power representative is responsible for operation of United Power equipment.) The FIM can be programmed from the front panel following instructions provided by United Power. The FIM goes offline during programming. No two FIMs on a network should have consecutive addresses. (The United Power representative is responsible for operation of United Power equipment.) 7 Cable Connections Cable Pinouts Use the following cable pinouts for the RS-232 connection between Metasys Integrator and the B&B Electronics RS-232 to RS-422 converter. Connect the 25-pin end to the RS-232 Port on the converter. 9 Metasys Integrator Setup To set up Metasys Integrator, use a portable PC connected to the Metasys Integrator Terminal Port. Metasys Integrator setup involves: downloading the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) setting up the ports setting up the network addressing The following table provides information specific to United Power. For detailed procedures, see the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). Each N2 address reads data from 2 consecutive device addresses for a single FIM device. Enter the first address (the commissioned address) as the vendor address. 11 Point Mapping Table The FIM reports the status of 33 analog input points and 9 binary input points. There are no output points. Eight of the binary input points are building contact alarms, which may be set up in the FIM as normally open or normally closed contacts. The FIM reports the open or closed status, not the alarm status of these alarm points. For example, suppose point BI 4 is a normally open alarm point: The point would be in alarm and return a value of 1 to Metasys Integrator whenever the contact was closed. However, suppose the point is a normally closed alarm point: When the contact is closed, a value of 1 is reported to the Metasys Integrator even though the point is not in alarm. When the contact is opened, a value of 0 is reported to Metasys Integrator and the point is in alarm. The ninth alarm point, BI 9, is a summary alarm, which the FIM sets to 1 whenever a point is in alarm. Table 2 shows the points available for mapping in the United Power Corporation FIM. To get the hardware reference for mapping points to a CS object (via the software model), combine the NPT (Network Point Type) and NPA (Network Point Address). For example, the hardware reference for the Phase A Current point is 7.
