2 2 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin Using M-Authorize Introduction Johnson Controls M-Series Workstation software components, like the M3 Workstation, the M5 Workstation, M-Web, and M-Graphics, use a new approach to software licensing: M-Authorize. This document describes how to: authorize workstation software view the current license transfer a license to another Personal Computer (PC) kill a license

3 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin 3 Key Concepts Software Authorization Johnson Controls products have previously handled licensing issues using techniques such as a hardware key on the parallel port of the PC and manufacturing files. Johnson Controls M-Series Workstation software components use a new approach to software licensing: M-Authorize. M-Authorize can: authorize a new or existing license, which enables purchased software components to function view the current license transfer a license (Allows the user to transfer a license from one PC to another.) kill a license Notes: If M-Authorize is uninstalled, reinstall it in the same directory. M-Authorize does not function properly if you uninstall from one directory and reinstall in another. Users who must change their install path should follow the procedure for killing their present authorization. After authorization is killed, you can reauthorize the workstation with the new path. You may need to reauthorize software when upgrading from a previous version. Refer to the Metasys Installation and Platform Requirements Technical Bulletin (LIT-12012) for more information. Johnson Controls Software Authorization Form Locate the software authorization form in the readme.txt file or on the back of the cover letter in each M-Series component box. Please send the form to software.manufacturing@jci.com. If you do not have , fax the form with all requested information printed clearly to Johnson Controls at (414) Please use the template included in the software readme.txt file in your message. Sections 1-4 are required to process your request. Note: Look at the letter distributed with the software for alternate addresses and fax numbers if you receive products shipped from factories outside the United States.

4 4 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin Detailed Procedures Authorizing Workstation Software To authorize workstation software: Note: The Johnson Controls Temporary License Authorization dialog box only appears upon first use. 1. On the Windows Start menu, select Programs > Johnson Controls > M-Authorize. The M-Authorize Temporary License Authorization dialog box appears (Figure 1). Figure 1: M-Authorize Temporary License Authorization Dialog Box 2. Click Yes. The M-Authorize dialog box appears stating operation is complete (Figure 2). Figure 2: M-Authorize Dialog Box 3. Click OK. The Johnson Controls - M-Authorize window appears (Figure 3).

The M-Authorize License Authorization dialog box appears (Figure 4). M-Authorize License Authorization Authorization SITE CODE: DC6D 9A0C 728A D4D7 90 Update SITE KEY: Cancel Enter the purchased Site Key which has been provided for your specific Site Code. Note : after Temporary Authorization expires, the Site Code will change but the original Site Key will still be valid. Authorization Figure 4: M-Authorize License Authorization Dialog Box 5. Follow the instructions provided on the authorization form in the readme.txt file to obtain the Site Key. Refer to the Johnson Controls Software Authorization Form section in this document. 6. Enter the Site Key and click Update.

6 6 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin Viewing the Current License To view the current license: On the Actions menu, select View License. The M-Authorize License View dialog box appears (Figure 5). The M-Authorize License View dialog box cannot be modified, only viewed for diagnostic purposes. Figure 5: M-Authorize License View Dialog Box

7 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin 7 Note: Metasys Web Access (MWA) authorization includes following components and clients for multiple users to connect M5 Workstation BN OPC N1 OPC M-Graphics M-Alarm M-Trend License Configuration Enterprise System with: 30 Clients for 5 users configuration (Product #) 36 Clients for 10 users configuration (Product #) Transferring a License to Another Personal Computer (PC) To transfer a license to another PC: Notes: Items needed to transfer a license include: a Source PC with an active temporary or permanent license, a Destination PC with no license, and a formatted floppy disk. If there is an active temporary license on the Destination PC, follow the procedure below. If there is an active permanent license on the Destination PC, perform the Steps in Killing a License in this document, start M-Authorize, and begin with Step 6. If there is not a license on the Destination PC, start M-Authorize, and begin with Step 6. On the Destination PC: 1. Install M-Series Workstation software on the Destination PC. 2. Start M-Authorize. A message appears stating the software is not authorized. 3. Click Yes to activate the temporary authorization. A message appears stating the temporary authorization has expired. 4. Kill the temporary license in the Destination PC before transferring a license. Refer to Killing a License in this document. 5. Restart M-Authorize after killing the temporary license. When restarted, a message appears asking if you want to reactivate the temporary license. Select Yes.

8 8 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin 6. From the Actions menu, select Transfer License. The M-Authorize License Transfer dialog box appears (Figure 6). Figure 6: M-Authorize License Transfer Dialog Box 7. Click the Destination PC which is about to receive the license radio button. 8. Perform Step 1 in Figure Click the Step 1 Register Transfer button. 10. Take floppy disk out of the Destination PC. On the Source PC: 11. Insert the floppy disk into the Source PC. 12. Start M-Authorize. 13. From the Actions menu, select Transfer License. The M-Authorize License Transfer dialog box appears (Figure 6). 14. Click the Source PC which already has license installed radio button. 15. Perform Step 2 in Figure Click the Step 2 Transfer License Out button. The license transfers to the floppy disk. 17. Take floppy disk out of the Source PC.

9 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin 9 Killing a License On the Destination PC: 18. Reinsert floppy disk into the Destination PC. 19. Perform Step 3 in Figure Click the Step 3 Transfer License In button. To kill a license: 1. On the Actions menu, select Kill License. An M-Authorize warning dialog box appears (Figure 7). Click OK to continue. The M-Authorize Kill and Remove License dialog box appears (Figure 9).

10 10 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin Figure 9: M-Authorize Kill and Remove License Dialog Box 4. Enter your name, the date, and the Johnson Controls password, MOK. 5. Click OK. Note: Killing the license requires reauthorizing the workstation.

11 Using M-Authorize Technical Bulletin 11 Troubleshooting Table 1: M-Authorize Troubleshooting Problem The Symantec Norton Utilities program includes the Speed Disk defragmentation utility. This utility moves system files by default. If the Speed Disk utility or the user moves the M-Authorize licensing files, the authorization to run workstations is lost. When the licensing files are moved, the following error message appears in the workstation when launching workstation components: Authorization Failure - Error number: When the licensing files are moved, the following error message appears in M-Authorize: License Utility Error (CKERR -1015): Restriction File has been Moved or Overwritten While transferring a license, if the Destination PC has temporary authorization, the following error message appears: License Utility Error (CKERR -4001) Only Unauthorized Sites Can Be Used! Loss of the temporary authorization occurs if the user changes the time during a temporary authorized period. The Site Key received from the factory may not work if this is done after the Site Code has been submitted. Note: Temporary authorization is only available one time per machine. When attempting Temporary authorization after an M-Series Workstation installation, the following error message appears: License Utility Error (CKERR -9021): Solution Submit the Authorization request using the new Site Code from M-Authorize. Indicate the error you received in the Special Instructions section of the form. To prevent this error: 1. Open the Speed Disk utility and specify that the *.ENT, *.KEY, and *.RST files in the M-Authorize folder are unmovable. Refer to Speed Disk documentation for details. 2. Save the new profile. Refer to Speed Disk documentation for details. 1. Kill the temporary license in the Destination PC before transferring a license. 2. Start M-Authorize. A message appears stating the software is not authorized. 3. Click Yes to activate the temporary authorization. A message appears stating the temporary authorization has expired. 4. Click OK. Now in M-Authorize, transfer the license. Submit the Authorization request using the Site Code from M-Authorize. Clean the PC and install M5 Workstation software. To prevent this error, make sure machine is clean before installation. To clean the machine, reformat the hard drive, reload the operating system, then reload the M-Series Workstation software. Note: This error occurs when the install/reinstall is performed multiple times. A permanent license can be created after receiving this error. Controls Group 507 E. Michigan Street P.O.
