3 lntroduction This document explains the Metasys Integrator Northern application. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator technical bulletins in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5), which provide information on installing and commissioning the Metasys Integrator unit. For information on vendor equipment, see Northern documentation (obtainable from a Northern representative). Note: If you are using a Universal Packaging Module (UPM) enclosure, you must install the Metasys Integrator 300 Series in a two high enclosure (EN-EWC25-0) rather than a one high enclosure (EN-EWC13-0) as shown in the figures in this application note. Application Details The Metasys Integrator unit allows Northern Computers Inc. Model N750 Security and Access Control (manufactured for Northern by Silent Knight) to communicate with the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks. This interface provides up to 400 supervised inputs to the Metasys system with dial up communication to a Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) Listed Central Monitoring Station if desired. Each supervised input may be assigned to one of nine partitions and one of eight areas in a partition allowing the Metasys Integrator unit to schedule arm/disarm events for these points. Once a Northern N750 is connected to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator unit, its data is available to the full complement of Metasys Building Automation System (BAS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, secondary reporting and alarm notification, trend, and totalization. 5 Component Requirements Metasys Release Requirements Metasys Companion Release Requirements Vendor Component Requirements To integrate the Northern 750 panel, you need the following: properly installed Northern 750 RS-232 null modem cable (Northern Part No. N-750-CBL-PI) Metasys Integrator unit N2 Bus (for connecting the Metasys Integrator unit to the Metasys Network Control Module [NCM] or Companion Network) portable Personal Computer (PC) for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information, and for running diagnostics cable for connecting a portable PC to the Metasys Integrator unit serial/parallel interface for direct connection to N750 (Northern Part Number N-750-PI). We recommend two N750-PI ports: one for connection to the Metasys Integrator unit and one for local programming. the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into the Metasys Integrator unit (supplied on CD-ROM) This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. Northern documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator technical bulletins in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). To integrate Northern equipment into the Metasys Network, you need: Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 7.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 9.0 or higher To integrate Northern equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you need: Metasys Companion Release 5.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 9.0 or higher Integration between the Metasys Integrator unit and Northern has been tested with the Northern N750 OS Version F. Changes to this equipment or integration of Northern products not discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. For information on integrating other products, refer to the Custom Integration section in this application note. Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Northern Application 5
6 Vendor Contact Information Design Considerations Northern Computers, Inc., Technical Support 5007 S. Howell Avenue Milwaukee, WI Phone: (888) Internet: When integrating the Northern N750, consider the following: Make sure the Northern N750 equipment is set up and running properly before integrating with a Metasys or Companion system. (The Northern representative is responsible for operation of Northern equipment.) The System Status.VCT files must be defined and given as an N2 address. Along with reading the system status, this application is required to initiate communications with the gateway. Metasys Integrator Northern N750 devices will fall offline while a PC is running Northern N Download software. Although the Metasys Integrator unit can relinquish to other communication devices (such as Northern N750 Access Control Administration software), use of the software will also cause the devices to fall offline; therefore, use of any other communication software for any reason other than to download the gateway is not supported. The operating system date must be June or July, 1998 or later. To verify operating system date, view Stat, Option 4 at the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The Metasys Integrator unit will not come on-line with the Northern N750 if a Reporting Account number is defined in the N750 database. Table 1 shows the port setup for NC750. 9 Metasys Integrator Setup To set up the Metasys Integrator unit, use a portable PC connected to the Metasys Integrator Terminal Port. Metasys Integrator setup involves: downloading the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) setting up the ports setting up the network addressing Table 2 provides information specific to the Northern application. For detailed procedures, see the Metasys Integrator technical bulletins in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Northern Application 9
