Smart Region part of CEZ Group FUTUR/E/MOTION FUTUR/E/MOTION = the concept of the CEZ Group focused on innovative energy solutions in the field of energy production, distribution and consumption. The common goal is a development of modern, reliable, effective and environment friendly energy technologies. Strategic areas of FUTUR/E/MOTION The support of R&D (efficiency improvement of traditional energy sources, innovative renewables, energy efficiency projects, energy storage systems) Local energy production (wind power, photovoltaic energy, CHP units, biomass and biogas power plants) E-mobility (EV and EV infrastructure) Active demand (smart grids, smart metering) Smart Region focuses on the improvement of distribution grid reliability through testing and implementation of smart grid technologies. 3

10 Smart Region part of Grid4EU project Grid4EU is European project focused on development of Smart Grids. Smart Region is one of the 6 demo sites of Grid4EU. The project is carried out by 6 European DSOs (covering altogether more than 50% of metered electricity customers in Europe) 27 partners involved in this project (DSOs, manufacturers and R&D institutes) Project duration: 51 months (11/2011 1/2016) The project is co-funded by the EU under FP7 Total costs are more than 54 M, EU contribution is 25,5 M The project is coordinated by ERDF 5 GWPs, 6 Demos
11 Grid4EU - areas covered by individual Demos
12 Presentation outline Smart Region part of FUTUR/E/MOTION About Smart Region Location and partners Goals and expectations, schedule Smart Region - demo site of Grid4EU Smart Region objectives in detail MV automation
13 MV automation Goal and expectations Goal: to prove the MV automation on secondary substations can enable faster identification, localisation and manipulation of the failure by introducing so called disconnection substations. The equipment (switches, load-breakers, protection devices and control system) of the six disconnection substations allows their remote control by Regional and/or Superior SCADAs. The project will ensure real time grid control, improvement of the SAIDI a SAIFI indicators, energy supply quality increasing (reduction of the voltage violation ), and reduction of the time needed for failure localization and isolation
14 MV automation Location, scheme No. of secondary substations: 31 Lenght of LV cables : 65 km Lenght of MV cables: 12,9 km No. of customers: 4895
MV automation Function description Disconnection of part of the grid IEDs in the disconnection substations execute the localization and isolation of the failure, disconnects switches ČEZ Distribuce, Inc. Regional SCADA evaluates the situation and proposes Superior SCADA operator relevant alternative grid configuration, Superior SCADA operator assess the solution Manipulation of remote controlled switches and load-breakers on substations alternative feed and minimization of area affected by failure 15
16 Presentation outline Smart Region part of FUTUR/E/MOTION About Smart Region Location and partners Goals and expectations, schedule Smart Region - demo site of Grid4EU Smart Region objectives in detail LV automation
17 LV automation Goal and expectations Goal: to prove new architecture of LV grid including remote controlled devices (LV circuit breakers and load-breakers) and involvement of dispatching control system (Superior SCADA) and local control system (Regional SCADA) will allow a faster localization, isolation of the failure and return to standard LV grid condition. The project will ensure real time grid control, improvement of network reliability increase of quality of supply, SAIDI/ SAIFI indicators, improvement of energy quality supply (decrease in voltage deviation) and reduction in time of the failure localization and isolation.
18 LV automation Scheme No. of LV street cabinets: 6 Lenght of LV cables: 4km No. of consumers: 64 LV street cabinet Inlet feeder: circuit breaker Outlet feeder: load-breaker Bay feeder: circuit breaker LV grid from substation 1439 LV grid from substainon1436 Surrounding LV grid Disconnection surrounding LV grid Inlet Bay Oulet
19 LV automation Function description (I) The failure between street cabinets No.1 and No.2 causes disconnection of the left circuit breaker in the street cabinet No.1 and the week bond circuit breaker in the street cabinet No.3 Regional SCADA proposes alternative grid configuration to reduce area affected by failure this must be confirmed/adjusted by Superior SCADA operator Regional SCADA commands the left circuit breaker in the street cabinet No.2 to disconnect.
20 LV automation Function description (II) Closing of the left circuit breaker in the street cabinet No.1 reconnection of power supply to Mikulíkova bay Closing of week bond circuit breaker in the street cabinet No.3 restoration of power supply to street cabinets 2-5
21 Presentation outline Smart Region part of FUTUR/E/MOTION About Smart Region Location and partners Goals and expectations, schedule Smart Region - demo site of Grid4EU Smart Region objectives in detail Automated island operation
22 Automated island operation Goal and expectation Goal: to verify process of control of all phases of island operation: disconnection the predefined area to the island operation, balancing of power supply and load during the islanding and re-connection of the island area to the standard MV grid. The area will be fed by 1.6 MW CHP unit, the island operation will be ensured by Balance Automatic (special IED) and return to standard MV grid by a Synchrotact (special IED). The project will examine the possibility to use this approach for regions with high penetration of DER (local power generation and consumption) while ensuring sufficient quality of supply.
