13 Proposed Project Ideas Reliable Electricity Supply by Fault Prediction Two important trends in distribution system management: Sensors are dropping in cost Fault localization Fault prediction Huge savings and competition advantages in outage reduction, workforce management, preventive maintenance etc. Some promising field experience in the US Proposed project: detection of incipient faults by highresolution voltage and current waveform measurements. Gathering available experience and research results Deployment of high-frequency measurement units, gathering waveform data before and at the time of well-documented failures Development of online signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms
