GeoMedia Smart Client Integration with CARD in New Zealand Police
The Environment Prevention First National Operating Strategy: Understanding and responding to the drivers of crime Deploying to beat demand Victim focus
The Challenge Deploying to beat demand: Districts challenged to know their demand When and where their incidents are Where their resources are Where they are deploying District Command Centres (DCCs) & Realtime Intelligence Demand for Innovative and cost-effective solutions
Big Data: CARD Untapped resource 1.8 million calls per year 3 million events created per year 9,000 constabulary staff and 3,000 vehicles Only source of real-time information in Police Clear picture of demand
The Solution: Smart Client Web-access mapping tool: pulls a range of sources into a common operating picture INCIDENTS REPORTED TO POLICE POLICE RESOURCES & ACTIVITY AT-RISK AREAS & ADDRESSES
How did we get there? Internal consultation with end-users and acting on their feedback Close working relationship with Intergraph Customisation to meet Police requirements

Integration and cross-functionality with other Police applications
The Result Visual & Intuitive Click and display Increased Use of Geospatial Technology in NZP Access to Information in Real-time Low-Cost Set-up and Maintenance: Leveraged off Existing Systems & No License Limitations
BETTER DEPLOYMENT DECISIONS Right time, right place INCREASED EFFICIENCY
IMPROVED SITUATIONAL AWARENESS & RISK IDENTIFICATION BETTER TREND ANALYSIS THROUGH GEOSPATIAL VISUALISATION Deploying to beat demand
IMPROVED RESOURCE MANAGEMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY Key tool used daily for tasking and deployment meetings in all twelve policing districts NZ Police
Feedback The best tool we ve ever had Really, really useful there is no other way we could have accessed this information easily Crime is starting to decrease since we started using it and having a more effective deployment doc/meeting daily. We use it to identify where our capability gaps are Through Smart Client we identified a problem with our processes, and addressed them with the Area Commander. We would never have been able to identify this before.
