2 Coaching bodies Platinn Platinn aims to help companies develop their capacity for business innovation by mobilising them and making it easier for them to access innovation. It also assists innovative firms with their fundraising efforts and puts them in touch with investors via matchinvest (formerly CapitalProximité). This user-friendly platform also serves as an intermediary between SMEs which are being taken over and their new owners. Alliance Alliance is an industry liaison programme with the primary mission of developing synergies between companies, highereducation providers and research centres in Western Switzerland and devising collaborative R&D projects.

3 Sector-specific promotion platforms The mission of the four sector-specific promotion platforms is to position Western Switzerland as a centre of excellence in life sciences, (BioAlps), information and communication technologies (Alp ICT), micro- and nanotechnologies (Micronarc) and clean technologies (CleantechAlps). The platforms aim to create synergies between companies that are based in Western Switzerland and working in one of the four priority areas mentioned above, and service providers in the given field, whether at national or international level. With a view to creating economic value, the four platforms act as intermediaries between businesses, R&D, political decision-makers and investors These platforms are initiatives of the Cantons of Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, and Jura. Supported by the SECO under the New Regional Policy (NRP).

The conferences, which have been organised in partnership with Inartis Network for the last two years, provides an overview and practical summary of the latest information on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, materials innovation, biomedical applications and imaging, as well as new approaches for advanced manufacturing. Presentations are given by leaders in scientific research and specialist clinicians committed to advancing life sciences both regionally and nationally. 4à6 BioAlps Held between 4pm and 6pm and organised with support from the cantonal development agency, these events take the form of site visits to the key medtech and biotech players in the region.

5 KEY EVENTS Fintech Connect FinTech (financial technology) is currently attracting a great deal of attention because of its impressive research and output. The aim of the Fintech Connect meetings is to foster and facilitate exchanges between the banking sector in Western Switzerland and national FinTech players. These invitation-only events bring financial stakeholders up to speed on the latest innovations and developments happening locally, while providing FinTech + FinSec (financial security) specialists with a platform to showcase their solutions and research to a wider audience. Mobile World Congress The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is not only the largest gathering of the mobile industry in the world, but it is also an innovative and exciting conference that brings together mobile operators and sellers from around the globe. To coincide with this event, Alp ICT has organised a business trip for between six and eight companies and institutes every year since A core strength of Alp ICT is the ability to leverage the potential of participants across these different communication channels. The highlight of these business trips are customised business meetings, organised upstream in partnership with Enterprise Europe Network, and the networking events run by Switzerland Global Enterprise and held at the Swiss Pavilion.

6 KEY EVENTS Smart Energy CleantechAlps, together with The Ark Energy, the town of Sion and FMV, has backed National Smart Energy Day since its launch in Its aim is to bring together energy specialists for a day of lectures and discussions of the issues surrounding intelligent networks and the smart grid, such as decentralised feed-in, control energy, energy trading and the stakes in relation to medium- and high-voltage networks in both Switzerland and Europe. Given Switzerland s decision to phase out nuclear power and the rise of variable alternative sources of energy, the theme of Smart Energy is more topical than ever. World Future Energy Summit & IWS & EcoWASTE The World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi is the world s foremost exhibition and conference on renewable energies, energy efficiency and clean technologies. Every year, T-LINK and CleantechAlps organise the Swiss Pavilion, offering clean-tech companies a high-profile stage to showcase their work and latest solutions. For Swiss companies looking to enter the market or strengthen their existing business relations, the pavilion is a first-rate networking platform. Together with the International Water Summit (water treatment) and the EcoWASTE exhibition (solutions and services in the waste and recycling sector), which run concurrently with the WFES, this global fair covers most of the priority areas pursued by CleantechAlps.

7 KEY EVENTS Compamed Micronarc Alpine Meeting The primary focus of the annual Micronarc Alpine Meeting is industrial equipment needed to manufacture micro- and nanotechnology products. This conference brings together around 100 Swiss and international experts, and professionals working in the sector with the aim of stimulating quality networking and discussions. The two-day event in the Swiss Alps also includes lectures and company exhibits. During the annual international trade fair Compamed in Düsseldorf, Micronarc runs a pavilion which provides a select group of companies with a valuable platform to showcase their expertise and raise their profile in Europe. The fair attracts topdecision makers and over 500 exhibitors who supply the medtech services needed to manufacture medtech products, medical instrumentation, microsystem technologies, new materials and surface treatments.
