2 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2018 The largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is dedicated to furthering our understanding of the major social, economic and environmental trends shaping the world s sustainable development, and to empowering the global community to realise viable and effective strategies to mitigate climate change. 5 Year of Zayed As 2018 has been declared by our leadership as the Year of Zayed and to honour the Late Founding Father s timeless legacy, we aim to highlight Sheikh Zayed s impact throughout ADSW. The Year of Zayed will be implemented in our programme and communications leading up to and during ADSW. The Zayed Future Energy Prize (ZFEP) Awards Ceremony As it marks its decade of impact, the 10 th ZFEP award will integrate the Year of Zayed into the ADSW opening ceremony and the ZFEP awards ceremony. Reception - the Year of Zayed will also be integrated into the theme of the official reception Majlis a dedicated section for Sheikh Zayed s memorabilia and photos will be exhibited in the majlis.

10 International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will commence with the International Renewable Energy Agency s (IRENA) 8 th session of its Assembly, which will then be followed by the participating events that will take place throughout the week. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization mandated by 151 national governments and the European Union to promote the widespread and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal energy, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind energy. The Assembly is the ultimate decision-making authority of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Made up of all of IRENA s Members, the Assembly gathers once every year in Abu Dhabi to discuss and decide upon issues relating to the Agency s work. Attracting heads of state, ministers and high-level delegates from Member states and observer organisations from around the world, the IRENA Assembly has grown to become the foremost event for international cooperation on renewable energy. 11 The Zayed Future Energy Prize Awards The Zayed Future Energy Prize represents the vision of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, who championed environmental stewardship and sustainability as an integral part of the nation s history and heritage. These annual awards recognise pioneers of renewable energy and sustainability through five categories: Large Corporation, Small and Medium Enterprise, Non-Profit Organisation, Lifetime Achievement and Global High Schools. Entries are evaluated according to four criteria: impact, innovation, leadership and long-term vision The awards ceremony will take place alongside the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on the morning of January 15 th. 12 Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) Founded by Masdar, Abu Dhabi s renewable energy company, and the Zayed Future Energy Prize, WiSER is a bold, action-oriented initiative that endeavours to mentor, empower and inspire women to be catalysts of innovation, industry leaders and drivers of commercial solutions, with the aim of expanding access to energy, water and food while mitigating climate change The platform promotes the role women play in industries related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 13 The World Future Energy Summit (WFES) conference WFES is one of the anchor events of ADSW, the world s foremost annual meeting advancing future energy, energy efficiency and clean technologies by engaging political, business, finance, academic and industry leaders to drive innovation, commerce and investment opportunities in response to the growing need for sustainable energy. WFES will take place on the 16 th -18 th of January as a series of panel discussions, presentations and interviews. In 2017, the conferences brought together 136 global industry leaders and more than 1,500 delegates to broaden their knowledge and strengthen cross-border partnerships. 14 Energy Efficiency in Buildings Forum (EEBF) A new initiative dedicated to exploring the latest technologies, opportunities and projects that drive progress in the energy-efficiency sector for urban design and architecture. EEBF will take place on the 18 th of January as part of The World Future Energy Summit and will hold a series of panel discussions, presentations and roundtable discussions. 16 CLiX Climate Innovation Exchange CLIX will comprise the following immersive features: The CLIX Youth Hub A TED Talks-style presentation area acting as the centerpiece of the CLIX experience. 17 The Student Exclusive The Student Exclusive features an exciting programme of talks, breakout sessions, performances and creative activities to inspire the involvement of young people in advancing renewable energy, and to raise awareness of the issues around sustainability. January 2018 will mark the third edition of the Student Exclusive at ADSW. 18 The International Water Summit (IWS) conference IWS is a global platform for promoting water sustainability in arid regions by bringing together world leaders, field experts, academics and business innovators to accelerate the development of new sustainable strategies and technologies. IWS will take place on the 17 th and 18 th of January as a series of panel discussions, presentations and interviews. In 2017, the conferences brought together 60 global industry leaders and more than 100 delegates to broaden their knowledge and strengthen cross-border partnerships. 19 EcoWaste EcoWASTE is an exhibition that aims to become the international leading specialised event for sustainable waste management and recycling, bringing together leading local and international technology and service providers, local and regional buyers, and industry professionals from both the private and public sectors. Hosted by Masdar and held in partnership with Tadweer, The Center of Waste Management in Abu Dhabi (CWM), and co-located with the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and the International Water Summit (IWS), EcoWASTE is part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), and aims to support the region's urgent waste disposal challenges and needs in the quest for sustainable development and environmental protection.

20 Waste Management Solutions Forum The fifth edition of EcoWASTE Exhibition will take place January 2018 as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, and will also host the Waste Management Solutions Forum, which brings together key stakeholders in regional and international waste management. Topics at this year s forum include, reducing the amount of residential and commercial waste going to landfill, moving towards a zero-waste society, and the region s waste to energy plans. 21 UAE Rain Enhancement Awards Ceremony Launched by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs of the UAE and overseen by the UAE National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), the UAE Research programme for Rain Enhancement Science is an ambitious initiative of global scope designed to stimulate rain enhancement research and augment rain fall in the UAE and arid and semi-arid regions around the world. Aligned with the UAE Innovation Strategy, the programme aims to enhance water security through international cooperation in scientific research and development in the field of rain enhancement. The research areas that the Programme addresses include the fundamental understanding of rainfall enhancement, data modelling, analysis, and evaluation, as well as experimental design, technologies and instrumentation. 22 The Festival at Masdar City The Festival at Masdar City is an annual event that takes place during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) to extend the spirit of ADSW to the general public. In 2017, the communityfocused event welcomed more than 8,000 visitors over two days. On 19 th and 20 th of January 2018, the fifth edition of The Festival will take place at Masdar City. Masdar City will welcome the local community to take part in a series of fun and educational activities related to sustainability against the backdrop of one of the world s most sustainable cities.
