1 THE GARDEN CLUBS OF AUSTRALIA INC ABN: Founder President: Mrs Margaret Davis MBE THE MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD AT ORANGE EX-SERVICES CLUB, ANSON STREET, ORANGE COMMENCING AT AM ON WEDNESDAY 14 OCTOBER 2015 Welcome: Ken Bradley, President Apologies: The apologies were read by Robyn Simpson, Acting Secretary AGM, as follows: The Floral Art Guild of the ACT Shellharbour Garden Club Penrith City Garden Club Narrandera and District Garden Club Bourke and District Garden Club Inc Millaa Millaa Garden Club Judy Keast - Southern Highlands Garden Club Ken May Life Member Graeme Whisker The GCA Committee Dennis Parker The GCA Committee John Graham The GCA Committee Frank Spolc The GCA Committee Moved Jeanette Chown seconded Lorraine Gillon that the apologies be accepted The list of Clubs delegates, Clubs, Life Members, Zone Co-ordinators, Past Presidents and The GCA Committee members in attendance were read out by Robyn Simpson (Judges Registrar on The GCA Committee) and are attached to these minutes at Appendix 1. Confirmation of Minutes: Moved Susan Flux seconded Margaret Watts that the minutes of the previous AGM held at the Salvation Army Headquarters, Elizabeth Street, Sydney at AM on 16 September 2014 as circulated be accepted Business Arising from Minutes: Nil Correspondence: There was no correspondence other than the nomination of delegates and apologies. Reports: All reports can be found in the circulated Annual Report. GCA Annual General Meeting Minutes Page 1

2 President s Report: Ken thanked all current volunteer GCA Committee members and commended them on their contribution to The GCA Committee. Ken then spoke to his report (included in the Annual Report and provided to all affiliate clubs). Ken congratulated Dennis Parker on his Life Membership awarded at the August 2015 GCA Committee Meeting. Membership Report: The Membership Report was presented by Deirdre McLoughlin. Presentation: Life Membership was presented to John Sowden together with a Certificate from The GCA highly commending the contribution of the Sowden Family, GCA Life Members Geoff, Jean and John, to the work of The GCA. Treasurer s Report: In presenting his report for the year to the 30 th June 2015 the Treasurer advised: 1. The accounts had been audited by WLM Financial Services Pty Ltd 2. After tax profit for the year was $5, Income for the year was $143, Retained earnings of GCA $465, Moved David Lambert seconded Rowena Margetts that the audited Financial Report for be accepted Auditor: The current Auditor, Mr G Walker of WLM Partners Pty Ltd has indicated that he is prepared to act as Auditor for GCA for the ensuing twelve months. Moved David Lambert seconded Irene Woods that Mr G Walker of WLM Partners Pty Ltd, Level 12, 84 Pitt Street, Sydney be appointed as Auditor for the 2015/16 Financial Year Moved Lorraine Gillon seconded Phil Waites that all Reports be received Motions: There were no resolutions submitted to be considered at this meeting by the deadline of 31 May Presentation of Elaine Musgrave Prints by President Ken and Jeanette Chown to: Peta and Peter Trahar, Beth Stokes (former Collectors Plant Fair Organisers) The President declared all GCA Committee positions vacant and asked Barbara Hawke of Orange Garden Club Inc, to act as Returning Officer. Handover: Past President Ken congratulated George and presented the President badge to President George. Congratulations to new Committee Member George congratulated new member Helen Caughey and welcomed her to The GCA Committee. Presentation of Awards: The Garden Clubs of Australia Awards were then presented. The winners were: President of GCA Award for outstanding contribution by an individual to Gardening and/or Horticulture Judith Refshauge - Belconnen Garden Club Inc ACT Margaret Davis Award for outstanding contribution by an individual to The Garden Clubs of Australia Jeannette Lee - Gloucester and Districts Garden Club Inc NSW Eleanor McLeod Award for outstanding service by an affiliated Club to the Community Wondai and District Garden Club Inc QLD Doris Killian Award for outstanding service by an individual to the Community William Fleming Galston Garden Club Inc NSW Gwendy Hansford Award for outstanding service by a member of an affiliated Club to the environment Not Awarded Joan O Brien Award for achieving excellence by an individual in floral art Julia Jacobs - Woodville Academy of Floral Design Inc SA Young Gardner of the Year Award for outstanding contribution to gardening/horticulture age limit 30 years as at 30 th June Not Awarded GCA Annual General Meeting Minutes Page 3

4 Award to Orange Garden Club: President George presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Orange Festival Committee members present. Presentation to Past President Ken: President George acknowledged on behalf of The GCA Committee the dedication and support to all Committee members of Past President Ken, thanked Ken for his mentoring over the last 12 months and presented him with a Yates Garden Guide, a flowering gum and engraved trowel. General Business: 2017 Convention at Ulladulla presentation by Lindy Bonser (President, Ulladulla Garden Club) and Val Tranter (Vice President, Ulladulla Garden Club) Lindy and Val outlined the attractions of Ulladulla and surrounds and let all know of the wonderful welcome awaiting attendees at the 2017 Convention. The powerpoint presentation on activities, the environment and facilities in the Ulladulla area was very energetic and the GCA Committee are certainly looking forward to a wonderful Convention week in the Ulladulla area in Next Convention: To be held in the second week of November 2017 at the Community Centre, Ulladulla.
