1 Installing SQL 2005 Express Edition Go to The following page will appear Click on the button

2 Select the option I don t want to register Please take me to the download page. Need to install.net framework 2.0. It will tell you if you have it installed already Uninstall any beta versions i.e. MSDE 2000.net framework 2.0 download path: 8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

3 Installation of the SQL SERVER 2005 Express Edition SP2 1. Download the SQL SERVER 2005 Express Edition SP2 2. Click on the DOWNLOAD option 3. Click on SAVE 4. Save the file to a specified folder on your machine i.e. C: Drive

4 The file will then download It will tell you when the download is complete 5. Click on

5 6. Double click on SQLEXPR32.EXE 7. Click on, let it run

6 8. Accept the license terms, and click on NEXT 9. Click on The screen will then look like this 10. Click on

9 Then this screen 13. Enter the business name and company name 14. Click on

10 15. You need to select the Client Components to be installed as seen below 16. Select the ENTIRE FEATURE OPTION The options should now look like this 17. Click on 18. Select the MIXED MODE option 19. Enter the SA Password 20. Re enter the SA Password 21. Click on

12 25. Click on It will then install the program, this may take a while 26. When it is is completed, Click on

13 27. Click on The first part of the SQL Express Edition 2005 is now installed

14 Installing the SQL Server Management Studio Express The component is not compulsory to install to run Links Modular Solutions, but provides a very useful tool when solving support queries or data corruption. Repeat the first steps to get to the download and install area as you did for the first part of the installation. The screen should look like it does below 1. Click on the DOWNLOAD for the SQL Server Management Studio Express 2. Click on SAVE 3. Save the file to a specified folder on your machine i.e. C: Drive

15 The following screen will display 4. Once the file has downloaded click on OPEN FOLDER

16 5. Double click on the SQLServer2005_SSMSMEE.msi 6. Click on Then this screen 7. Click on

17 8. Accept the license conditions then click on 9. Enter the business name and company name 10. Click on

18 11. Leave defaults and click on 12. Click on

19 13. Click on The SQL Server Management Studio Express is now installed

20 Attaching a database backup in SQL Server Management Studio Express 1. Select the SQL Server Management Studio Express from the programs list 2. You will need to change the authentication to SQL Server Authentication 3. Enter the Login as sa 4. Enter the password you entered earlier when setting up the server 5. Click on

21 For those familiar with Enterprise Manager this is the new version of it 6. To restore a database RIGHT click the databases option

22 7. Select RESTORE DATABASE Type in the name of the database you wish to restore 9. Select the option FROM DEVICE 10. Click on the button 11. Click on

23 12. Browse and locate the backup file you have stored **Note: You may need to change the files of type to include other extensions. 13. The file details you have selected have been returned to 14. Click on

24 If the backup came from a computer where the data was either stored in a separate folder i.e. D:Links or on a version of SQL 2000 you will need to rename the file paths 15. Your screen should now look similar to this 16. Check the database you wish to restore 17. Click on OPTIONS in the left hand side of the screen 18. The screen will now look as follows

25 19. Single mouse click on the Store As field 20. Amend the file path to match where the data is going to be stored **Note: You will need to amend both lines You are now ready to restore the database 21. Click on If successful the following message will display Your database is now ready to be used by Links Modular Solutions

26 Enabling TCP/IP Network Access You will need to access TCP/IP Network access before you will be able to read the database from the client machines. 1. Go to the Start Menu 2. Select Configuration Tools 3. Select SQL Server Configuration Manager 4. The screen will look like this 5. Select SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration 6. Then select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER 7. Right click on TCP/IP and select ENABLE 8. You will need to stop and start the instance to recognize the changes

27 Accessing the SQL 2005 Database through Links Modular Solutions Open up the database options screen of links 1. Enter the SQL Server Name even if it is on the local machine 2. Enter the database name 3. Enter the user id as SA 4. Enter your password **Remember to access the user id and password fields you will need the Database User password.
