1 Portable Encoder Quick-Start - Analog Video Sources CONNECT AUDIO AND VIDEO TO PORTABLE ENCODER CONNECT THE AV BREAKOUT CABLE TO COMPUTER Before connecting audio and video, attach the AV Breakout cable to the computer s video input and tighten the thumb screws to ensure it s screwed to the computer during use. Pictured: AV Breakout cable & capture card in expansion port Pictured: AV Breakout cable plugged in with thumb screws tightened CONNECT VIDEO CABLES TO AV BREAKOUT CABLE Connect video source cable to the AV Breakout cable. The video sources cables you use may be either Composite or Component, which can be attached with either BnC or RCA connectors. If you don t know what your video source or which cables to use, consult your AV department or call Granicus customer support. 2 CONNECT AUDIO CABLES TO AV BREAKOUT CABLES Connect the audio cables from your portable camera to the AV Breakout cable. The audio cables you use may be either Balanced Audio and Unbalanced Audio. If you don t know your audio source type, consult your AV department or call Granicus customer support. Pictured: Balanced Audio cables with RCA connectors Pictured: Unbalanced Audio cable XLR connectors CONNECT THE COMPUTER TO THE NETWORK To stream live video, connect to either a wireless or wired local area network. Wired networks are generally more reliable than wireless. Consult your network administrator for connection settings. 3 CONFIGURE AUDIO/VIDEO DEVICES, ENCODER SETTINGS AND NETWORK SETTINGS At this time, start LiveManager CONFIGURE VIDEO ENCODING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE If this is the first time the Portable Encoder has been used, the software has been reinstalled or you re using a new audio/video source, you ll need to configure the video and audio capture devices. To proceed, click Change Bitrate from the Mobile Encoder menu. Pictured: Mobile Encoder menu in the upper-right corner Pictured: Change Bitrate screen SELECT VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE AND INPUT TYPE From the Video Devices drop-down, select Osprey 260e. This is the computer s installed video capture device. Below the Video Devices drop-down, select the input type that corresponds to the cables you ve plugged into the AV Breakout Cable. SELECT THE AUDIO CAPTURE DEVICE AND INPUT TYPE From the Audio Device drop-down list, select either Osprey 260e Audio - Balanced or Osprey 260e Unbalanced. 4 CONFIGURE ARCHIVING AND STREAMING VIDEO QUALITY Select Quality from the Configure Bitrates screen. Streaming Video Quality controls the video broadcast live over the Internet during your meeting. Archiving Video Quality controls video recorded to a file for future online viewing. Limitations and guidelines: Streaming video quality should not exceed the available network bandwidth. Streaming video quality should not exceed the archiving video quality. Pictured: Quality tab on Change Bitrate screen Pictured: Quality options on Quality tab in Change Bitrate TESTING AVAILABLE NETWORK BANDWIDTH Use test Bitrate to run a test between your network location and the Granicus datacenter. The result signifies the highest quality stream that can be accommodated by the network. As a guideline, select a streaming video quality setting that is 20% less than the bitrate number returned from the test. TEST NETWORK CONNECTIVITY Click Network Link Test on the Quality tab to perform a network connectivity and port access test between your network and the Granicus datacenters. Hardware and Software To verify your encoder s audio/video settings and cable connections, press Preview to play audio and video in the on-screen player. Click Apply to save settings. 5 PRE-MEETING SETUP LOAD A MEETING Click the Meetings button on the toolbar From the Load Meeting screen you can: Download a MediaManager agenda Load agendas that have already been created Create a new Download an Agenda If an agenda has been created in MediaManager but hasn t been downloaded to the local machine OR if a newer version of the agenda is available in MediaManager, a download icon will appear next to the meeting name. Click the download meeting. Pictured: Meetings button in the upper-left corner Pictured: Download agendas from MediaManager button to download the Load an more Agenda button to load an agenda into Live Click the Load Manager. You can load multiple agendas and switch between them during your meeting. Create an Agenda If you are unable to download an agenda from MediaManager due to lack of network access or an agenda doesn t exist for the meeting you want to run, you can create an agenda on the fly. Pictured: Load meeting from the Download Agenda window Pictured: Create button is on the bottom of the Download Agendas screen IN-MEETING WORKFLOW START YOUR MEETING Click the Start button archiving video. to begin streaming and RUN MEETING At this point, use LiveManager as normal to index items, record actions, etc. Refer to the LiveManager guide for instructions on how to use this application. STOP MEETING When your Meeting is finished, press the Stop button to close the agendas and minutes created. Pictured: loaded agenda ready to be started. Start button is a green triangle next to Meetings button on the toolbar. The Portable Encoder will begin to post-process video files created during the meeting. DO NOT SHUTDOWN THE COMPUTER. Post-processing the video can be a lengthy operation and must be completed before shutting down the computer.
6 POST-MEETING WORKFLOW Before uploading videos to MediaManager, it is recommended that you connect the Portable Encoder to your office network where it can be left connected for several hours to allow the upload to complete. UPLOAD MEETING Click the Meetings button in the toolbar, and choose the Upload tab. From meeting list, select the appropriate meetings and click upload. A progress bar will appear.
