3 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 1 About the Educator Portal Teachers (educators) will use the new Educator Portal application in KITE to administer students logins and passwords for formative tests. Required Software In addition to the Educator Portal, you should have the following software available: 1. Microsoft Excel, or similar (used to create comma-separated values [CSV] roster file to upload student information) 2. Adobe Reader, or similar (used to view test tickets in PDF format) 3. Firefox version 22.0 or higher used to access the system (Firefox is the certified browser for Educator Portal, others may not work as well)

4 2 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Logging Into Educator Portal Always use Firefox (version 22.0 or higher) when working with the Educator Portal because Firefox is the most compatible web browser. Note: Internet Explorer is not supported. (Using IE may cause the portal to display and/or perform incorrectly.) Many addresses were imported to create Educator Portal user accounts. If you had an account with the Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) at you may have an account in Educator Portal using your school address as your username. Follow the steps below under Finding an Imported Account. Note: The login for the Educator Portal is not the same login that was used for Test Builder. Test Builder is no longer a functioning application. Resetting a Password To reset a forgotten password, perform the following steps: 1. Log into the Educator Portal at 2. On the Sign In Screen, click Forgot Password.

5 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 3 3. Enter the username ( address) in the Username field. 4. Click Submit. Hint: You should receive an from kite-support@ku.edu within an hour, so check your Junk or Spam folders to be sure. Note: If no matching username is found, you will receive a message to check the spelling of the username.

6 4 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Note: If KITE still does not recognize your username, contact your school or district administrator, so your account information can be uploaded into the Educator Portal.

7 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 5 Logging in When You Know Your Username and Password To log into Educator Portal when you know your username and password, perform the following steps: 1. Log into the Educator Portal at 2. On the Sign In Screen, click Forgot Password. 3. In the Username field, type the username ( address). 4. In the Password field, type the password. Note: The username and password are case sensitive. 5. Click Sign In.

8 6 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Viewing Student Records Student Data is only visible to the teachers who have had an STCO file uploaded to KSDE with students. If you are a teacher creating a formative practice test session, you may want to view student records to check that all of your students have been rostered to you through STCO uploads. District and Building level users will see all students within the district or building. To view student information, perform the following steps: 1. Click the Configuration tab. 2. Click the Students tab. 3. Select View Students from the Select Action dropdown list Hint: Your screen may look different than the screenshots provided within this document based on the role(s) selected for your account. 4. Select your state, district, and school within the Select Organization portion of the screen. 5. Click the Search button.

9 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 7 6. A list of students will appear. Hint: If you are an educator with the Teacher role associated with your account and you do not see students, this could mean that STCO files have not been uploaded for you.

10 8 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Adding and Administering Tests To administer a formative test, you must first select a test and then add users to that test. The following sections describe this process. Adding a New Test Session To add a new test session, perform the following steps: 1. Click the Test Management tab. 2. Click Add New Test Session. 3. On the Select Assessment screen, if you know the exact name of the test session you may enter that name in the Assessment Name filter.

11 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 9 If you do not know the name of the test or would like to see a list of all formative assessments, you should select KAP within the Assessment Program dropdown list. 4. Click the button next to the appropriate formative test for the students. 5. Click Next. Note: You can type in the blank fields underneath the field names to filter the students, by things like grade or educator name.

12 10 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 6. Click the checkbox to the left of all the students you want to add to the test session. Hint: An STCO record has to have been submitted to KSDE in order to administer a practice formative test session. If you are seeing the message that No Students Available it is likely that STCO records were not submitted. Contact the person in your building who has building level access. Ask that person to view the student records to verify that STCO records have been uploaded for you. 7. Click Next. 8. Type a short but descriptive test session name.

13 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Click Submit. 10. On the Test Management screen, click the PDF icon next to the name of the test. 11. Click the radio button next to Save File.

14 12 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 12. Click OK. Hint: You can always reopen the saved file in case students forget their login information. 13. Open the PDF file to print the student tickets.

15 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session 13 Troubleshooting Test Sessions Multiple PDF Files for Student Logins Typically, if students tickets are appearing in more than one PDF document this means that the students are on different rosters. For example, if you create a test session for 5 students, 2 students may be on Roster A and the remaining 3 students may be on Roster B. When you create the test session, the system will generate a PDF file for both Roster A and Roster B with tickets for only the students listed on each roster. When creating a test session you can eliminate this problem by filtering by a roster name using the Roster column. The system will then display only students listed on that roster and all tickets will be in one PDF file Missing Student Tickets If you are missing student tickets, this could mean that you created a test session for a roster that did not contain the student(s). You can create another test session for the missing student(s) for the same test(s).

16 14 KITE - Creating a Formative Test Session Administering the Formative Test When the test tickets are ready for the students, you can administer the test. If you do not have test tickets, be sure to contact the person who is in charge of making them. The test tickets are printed from a PDF file (described earlier) and contain the student logins and passwords. To administer the formative test, perform the following tasks: 1. Distribute the test tickets (with login and password information) to the students. 2. Have the students click on the KITE Client icon on their computer desktops or access the KITE Client using the START menu (for Windows) or the Launchpad or Applications folder (for Mac) 3. Have the students click Other Assessments. 4. Instruct the students to enter the login information from their test ticket. The students will be able to begin the formative practice test session.
