3 1. Logging in 1.1.Go to Click on the CATALOGUE link. 1.3.Type in your User ID and password (membership number and password as in photocopy account details) Click on logon button.

4 2. Quick search You can select the type of material (or ALL if you are not sure of the material type) and then enter search terms. The quick search will search across author, title, subject, keywords fields. 2.1.Type in search terms e.g. palmer bailme The system has automatic word stemming, you don t need to use a *! or? 2.2.Select the material type(s) that you wish to search. 2.3.Click on the button. 2.4.Search results will appear grouped by material type Click on the button to view individual results.

5 3. Advanced Search books, journals or law reports The advanced search screen allows narrower search strategies. Enter terms in any or all of the fields shown. Searching using the Author/Title field allows a flexibility in finding results, particularly for books where the original author's name has become part of the title e.g. Bowstead on Agency. 3.1.Type search terms into one or more than one field. 3.2.Click on the buttons to access controlled lists of terms, such as subjects, where applicable. 3.3.Search terms may be modified by using the limits in the menus on the right 3.4.Type Australian criminal reports in the title field and limit to an Exact Phrase to find the law reports Australian criminal reports.

6 3.5.Click on the button The search retrieves 2 results, both the hard copy and online holdings.

7 4. Advanced Search unreported judgments This enables you to search the catalogue for judgments in the library s unreported judgments collection. There is a link to available judgments scanned from the collection. 4.1.Type search terms into one or more field(s). 4.2.Click on the buttons to access controlled lists of terms, such as judges names, where applicable. 4.3.Search terms may be modified by using the limits in the menus on the right 4.4.To search for a judgment where one of the parties was Abigroup and the judge was Hunter : 4.5. Type abigroup in the title field.

8 4.6. Select hunter from the controlled list of judges names. 4.7.Click on the button. 4.8.Click on the underlined title to view full record. 4.9.Or click on the link to access scanned document. This can also be done from the full record screen.

9 5. Advanced Search legislation This enables you to search the catalogue for items of legislation in the library s collection. There are two main types of related materials held in the library s collection: individual items of legislation and bound volumes of various series, such as Hansards, Government Gazettes and Statute Annotators. To search for individual items, use the Search for reprints, bills etc 5.1.Type search terms into one or more field(s). 5.2.e.g. type fair work in the title field Select jurisdiction from the drop down list.

10 5.4.Search terms may be modified by using the limits, such as exact phrase from the menus on the right. 5.5.Click on the button Click on the underlined title to view full record.

11 To search for bound volumes, use the Search for bound volumes of acts, regulations etc 5.7. Type search terms into one or more fields. (In the Title field, enter the jurisdiction in full and the type of legislation) 5.8.Click on the title to view the full record.

12 6. Viewing Search Results 6.1.Results may be sorted by different fields, depending on the material type e.g. Title, Author or Date (year of publication) for easier viewing. 6.2.To see the full record, click on the title.

13 NB search terms palmer and bailment appear in the abstract of this result.

14 7. Printing / ing search results 7.1.Printing and/or ing records may be done from either the search results screen Or the full record screen 7.2. Click on the or button.

15 7.3.Select the required document format and click on to view and then print the record(s). or PDF Report of full record

16 7.4.To a copy of the search results, selected search results and/or the full catalogue record, click on the button. or 7.5.You may change the address if you wish to send anywhere other than your registered address Click on the button.

17 8. Reserving items on loan 8.1.Go to the Full Record of the item you require. 8.2.Tick on the item you wish to reserve Click on the button.

18 8.4.Change the dates between which you require the items to be available by clicking on the clockfaces Click on the button to complete request.

19 9. Ask a Librarian 9.1.Click on the symbol next to Ask a librarian in the left hand frame Click on New request.

20 9.3.Select the type of request you wish to make. 9.4.Type in the details of your request. Fill out any other relevant details. 9.5.Tick the declaration and click on the button. 9.6.A copy of your request will be sent to the library s reference desk.

21 FOR CLERKS 9.7.Log in with clerk details. If you do not know these details, please contact the library. 9.8.Select the barrister on behalf of whom you are requesting information Type in request details as outlined above.
