3 3 Computer rooms (for all TUT students) PC201A, PC201B (Päärakennus, Main Building ) Desktop workstations are available for student use in Library premises, there is also a separate computer classroom PC201C on the 2nd floor. There are 8 computers in Library that do not require username and password. K1103D (Konetalo, Machinery Building ) This computer classroom has only virtualmachines. Same setup than in all those computers found along hallways. RM205 (Rakennustalo, Construction Building ) SB100B, SB202 (Sähkötalo, Electricity Building ) TB205 (Tietotalo, Information Building )

4 4 Printing Printers are located in computer rooms PC201B, SB100B, K1103D, RM205 and TB205 Scanners can be found in SB202 and RM205 Students starting in autumn get 80 credits You get extra 200 credits every January Additional quota can be purchased from the Juvenes bookstore If there is a problem with the printer like a paper jam for example, you should contact Juvenes-/Uniprint

5 5 TUT User account Username and Password: Never reveal your password to anyone You get your username and password by visiting IT Helpdesk (Remember to bring proper ID with you) Changing password can be done via: On this same page you can re-direct your to your gmailaddress for example. Password is active for 9 months before it gets expired. When changing your password remember that minimum length for new password is 10 characters. (There are other complexity requirements as well.)

6 6 Rules and Use Policies Important rules to keep in mind: Always Log Off after you are done using the computer P2P programs are forbidden in university network (except for Skype) Remember this especially when you connect from home via VPN. 7 7 VPN connection Virtual Private Network Connect to TUT network from outside: Gives your home computer an IP-address from TUT:s address space Routes all the traffic via TUT network while VPN connection is on Use library resources via home computer Full-text journals, dictionaries etc More information on how to setup: POP-portal Campus IT Services Remote connections VPN-connections Installation packages for Win:

8 8 Wireless local area network (WLAN) Students can access WLAN in TUT campus and many places around Tampere: Network: TUT, available at TUT campus Browser based authentication. No encryption. Network: LANGATON-WPA Wireless Tampere, available in TUT, UTA, and many other places around Tampere. Encrypted and very secure. 9 9 IMAP based mail server: Web access via webmail.tut.fi (Requires Javascript) Filters Forward (allows mail forwarding with additional settings) Client based access: Incoming mail server: imap.tut.fi (port: 143/TLS or port: 993/SSL) Outgoing mail server: mail.tut.fi (port: 587/TLS or port: 465/SSL) Use Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail or MS Outlook for example Storage space for mail is 500MB Maximum overall size for attachment(s) is approx. 36 MB

11 11 IT support structure Through IT Helpdesk you can reach IT support structure Visit the IT Helpdesk during opening hours The IT Helpdesk is located on the second floor of the main building (PC201D) Send us In case of a problem, please give enough info: Describe the problem as well as you can and give us location (computer room, name/number of computer) Screencaptures always help Remember to inform us if you manage to solve the problem on your own, so we know to close the support request in our system
