2 Initial Desktop (with Restricted Public Access) Double Click on the icon. If you need to use a USB Flash Drive, plug it in BEFORE you log in so it can be recognized.

3 Login Screen Method 1 Type your complete jdoe@students.law.miami.edu Use your law school password (NOT your CaneLink) Default password is your C# Method 2 Use the User name of the jdoe Log on to must be on UMLAWSCHOOL_AD

4 When Logged Into The Network You have the ability to: Save, Erase, Copy, and use just as you would any other Computer. Anything saved will be saved to your account, and is private.

5 Remember: Your account can only be used on the Law School Student Computers

6 Accessing content on USB Flash Drive s Click on the Start menu, then click on the My Computer Icon. The Flash Drive is shown here as: E$ on Client (U:) The drive letter (E$) may change. (Always look for the $ symbol) As a Bonus, the Floppy disk is usable! In the picture, it is labelled as D$.

7 Accessing Programs Click on the Start menu, then highlight All Programs, and scroll to the program you wish to use. Law School Student Computers include: Legal Research Tools CALI Law Library Catalog Law Library Resources LexisNexis Westlaw Website Access Excel PowerPoint Publisher Word & More.

8 Student and CaneLink Reminder: The law school account credentials: used for and accessing Law School Student Computers. CaneLink Credentials: j.doe1234 used for accessing the CaneLink Website and sending print jobs through UPrint. Requires a change of password every 6 months.

9 Sending Prints : Click on drop down arrow on the right of the print icon, click on print. 2: Scroll Left/Right, find LabBW to print to UPrint Black and White printer. This also applies when printing to LabCOLOR, for color printing. 3: Pharos Pop Up: Enter your CaneLink Username: j.doe1234 Password & name of Job. This will send your print job to the Queue.

10 1 2 Collecting Prints 1: UPrint Printers are located: D147 & D135 1 st Floor D232 2 nd Floor D332 3 rd Floor 2: Use the touch screen or swipe your canecard to log in, you can also login with CaneLink Username: 3 j.doe1234 and password 3: If a paper jam/error occurs. You can pick up the Uprint Phone to call the Help Desk. Note: Printers do not have A4 paper In efforts to be environmentally friendly, printers default to 2-sided/duplex printing.

11 Change /Network Password 1 2 1: Click on Start, then Windows Security 2: Click on Change Password 3 3: Enter Old Password Then New Password Twice Changing this password will affect any Device/Computer associated with the Law School Student iphones, ipads, Androids, and BlackBerry Devices

12 Change Password continued 1 1: Go to Scroll down, and click on the Student link 2 3 2: After you login, click on Options on the top right, then go to Change Your Password 3: Enter your Current Password, enter your New Password, then Confirm New Password.

13 Log Off! 1 When you are done with your session: 1: Click on Start 2: then click Log Off 3: Confirm Log Off 2

14 Reminder: Law School IT will never ask you for your password. Do not follow unsolicited web links received in messages. Install and maintain up-to-date antivirus software on your Laptop.

15 Password s can only be changed in 3 ways: 1-Using Law School Student Computers. 2-Through OWA (Outlook Web App). 3-By visiting the Law School IT Service Desk in room C118, with a UM ID (Cane Card).

16 Computer Updates & Security Use Windows Update/Apple Software Update to keep your personal system safe from intrusions and attacks. Install and keep your antivirus software on your Laptop updated. This also applies to Adobe Reader/Flash software. Do not follow unsolicited web links received in messages. If you have any questions, please contact the Help Desk. *Refrain from installing full OS upgrades as it may cause compatibility issues with some software. (Ex. Exam4)

17 LEXIS Printing LEXIS has two dedicated laser printers located in the 2 nd floor printer room of the Law Library. Room D232

18 SecureCanes SecureCanes is the University of Miami s wireless network. It s available in most areas of the Coral Gables campus. This service provides Internet connectivity to currently enrolled law school, undergraduate and graduate students. SecureCanes is NOT managed by the Law School. We CAN troubleshoot your personal system for connection issues, but can only provide limited technical service.
