Categories In WordPress Categories provide a helpful way to group related posts together, and to quickly inform readers what a group of posts are about.

Depending on the theme and widgets activated, categories can be displayed: At the top or bottom of posts On the individual post view And/or in the sidebar You can assign multiple categories per post

1 Categories In WordPress Categories provide a helpful way to group related posts together, and to quickly inform readers what a group of posts are about. Categories also make it easier for people to find content that interests them on you Blog. Categories are similar to, but broader than, Tags. Depending on the theme and widgets activated, categories can be displayed: At the top or bottom of posts On the individual post view And/or in the sidebar You can assign multiple categories per post (you must assign the post to at least one). Categories can be organized hierarchically. Since each post in WordPress is filed under one (or more) Categorie(s), this aids in navigation and allows posts and to be grouped with others of similar content. Create A Category In WordPress: To create a category for post(s) in WordPress 3.X.X login to WordPress as administrator, by simply entering the url_of_your_website/wp-admin in your Browser. Enter the appropriate username and password {which was provided while installing Wordpress} and then click on Log In as shown in Diagram 1. 2 In the left menu, locate the link Posts. Click Posts. From the drop down menu that appears click on Categories as shown in Diagram 3. 3 Enter the following details as shown in Diagram 5. Name : Enter the name of your category. This will be displayed if the categories widget is enabled. The Category Name must be unique. Slug : The slug is the URL-friendly version of the name. It is usually all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens. The Category slug must be unique. Parent : If you want to nest a category within a category, select the parent category. Otherwise leave at none. Description : Describe what the category is for. 7 Bind Post(s) To A Category(s): In the left menu, locate the link Posts. Click Posts. From the drop down menu that appears click on Posts as shown in Diagram 13. 10 Multiple Post Assigned To A Category In the left menu, locate the link Posts. Click Posts. From the drop down menu that appears click on Posts as shown in Diagram 21.
