1 Lions International District 27-A2 Technology Chair Lion Bill Meyers W290N9516 Deer Lane, Colgate, WI Following is an explanation of the design basic of the free Lions website template and a worksheet of the data required to have the template installed and deployed. Please direct all questions to the author. For website administrators Some parts of the website template are static and cannot be changed. Most parts of the website template can be changed thru the administrator panel. The basic identifiers of your new website such as your Club name, are set once by your District Technology Chair. The source for this data is the website templated application worksheet submitted. Please take the time to review the website template uploaded for your Club to familiarized yourself with items that can be changed before logging in to the Administrator Section. It is recommended that you read thru this document and review the online screen shots before logging in to familiarize yourself with the Administrator section of the website template. There are three major sections; the General website all visitors see, the Restricted Section for members only and the Administrators Section(s). It is recommended that when you adding your text and images to start with the General Section. The General Section Four pages of your new Club website can be changed. For each, you may upload new text and image files. On your new Home Page, you will need to upload your text description, four Club image files, a promotional image, and promotional brochure or registration form in the Portable Document (PDF) format. Image files will need to be resized to fit the website template design. If you do not have software for resizing image files, free application are available in the Technology Section of our District website. Open Office converts text files to PDFs and Gimp resizes image files. The sponsor logos possibly could be in the PNG or GIF image format. Gimp can convert these for you to JPGs. Be sure and notify the community programs your Club supports and your Sponsors that they are being promoted on your Club website so they can link bank from their website. This will improve your search engine scores. If you need some help with getting logos from other websites to use, please contact the District Technology Chair for help.

2 The Members Section The Members Section, while having many options available for members is really very simple. Documents generated by your Club Treasurer and Secretary are uploaded. All documents are encoded in the PDF format. The only 'live' option is a display of your membership. This data comes from the person your Club chooses to keep your membership list up-to-date. The Administrators Section(s) The Administrators Section has three sections; Members, Export and Users. The Members Section This Section is the centralized database for members information. The goal here is one centralized repository for Club Officers and Committee Chairs to share. The set-up for member data will be entered by your District Technology Chair IF you supply an Excel spreadsheet filled with data. Otherwise, member data may be added one at a time. Your Membership Chair can add, deleted or edit members and their information. Your Chair can also track Member participation making it easy to identify 'in danger' members and help them. This feature is simplified by using the results from exported data. The Export Section The Section is where the work of your Membership Chair's work product can be export for other to use in many ways. Member payment status is not included in this data. Exported data may be in the formats of comma delimited (.csv), text (.txt) or Excel spreadsheet (.xls). Please refer to the export page for additional information for exporting data. The goal here is to allow the current membership data for use by others. Newsletter recipients are separated into or print. Exporting an event signup list is useful not only to your Club's Event Committee Chair but, when the sheet is returned to your Club Membership Chair, participation data may be entered. The Export Membership Activity is key to helping your Membership Chair with his/her workload by sharing information about 'at risk' members that need to be contacted.

3 The Export Contact list export is similar to the Export Membership Activity but sensitive data that should not be shared is omitted. The Users Section This is a very powerful section. Not only can logged in users change their own password, which is recommended, but new users may be added or edited. There are several standard logins. Two, billphoto and billphoto2 are used by your District Technology Chair to test website template updates so these should not be changed. The General User is the access for your members to access level one information. The password should be changed annually. Please follow the password recommendations to generate a strong password. Passwords are encrypted in a 64 bit word and a random number called a hash is added for security, This is the same method used by your bank. Most usernames and passwords are not broken by hackers but by persons giving away their login information. Most commonly this is the result of a user getting a malware infection such as a key logger. Please stress to your membership the importance of Internet security. Your District Technology Chair has a short presentation for Clubs and Zone meetings on Internet security. Training One-on-One and small group training is available by your District Technology Chair. Your feedback and new feature requests are very important to the continued development of the Club website template and will benefit everyone in our District. Website Template Information Worksheet Internet Name and Address Your Club's Internet name and address is similar to your home address. First, you need a place to call home. This is called your Host. Hosting companies charge to store your Club website. There are good hosts and not so good hosts such as GoDaddy. YOU MAY CHOOSE ANY HOST. Most professional hosting companies, like the one we recommend, ipage, package domain registration with hosting services. ipage will automatically put your information into your domain registration. Hosting averages $125 a year but introductory deals abound. ipage offers deals like $90 for the first 3 years. Commonly, at your first consultation, we will review your choices and walk you through the process of getting your domain name and host so you can avoid being taken advantage of with hidden charges. You may provide several preferences for your Club's Internet name also called your Domain Name and the best possible will be chosen for you. If you do not have any preference, the best possible name available will be chosen. Copy the <iframe... ></iframe> information. This is the computer code that will embed your Google Calendar into your new Club's website. 6 Membership Database MEMBERS The website template utilizes a database as the repository for your members data. Members may be added individually or you may supply a properly formatted Excel spreadsheet and your initial data will be converted and updated for you. Column names: ID you may use the membership number or a number will be generated for you. New language updates, new devices and new things we have never imagined are being released every day. Add to that the many hours of testing the website template has gone thru only scratched the surface of every possible scenario. There will be errors. Your participation in continuing the revision and development of this template is essential to our success.
