1 ISSS Link Request Guide J-1 Scholars (New) What is ISSS Link? ISSS Link is an electronic case management system for managing international students and scholars. Scholars use the ISSS Link system to submit required information and documents to the ISSS office. This document will specifically address using ISSS Link as part of an H-1B, J-1, or TN request. Other uses for ISSS Link can be found on the ISSS website. Please Note: If you do not have access to the necessary technology to complete the request process and upload your documents, please contact our office at We will be glad to assist you with the process. How do I use ISSS Link to work on my request? Your department administrator must first initiate the request in ISSS Link. After the administrator begins the request process, you will receive an that will contain a link to access the system. You must use the link in that , even if you have logged into the system before. The will be similar to the following: 1

2 Once you have clicked on the link and logged into the system, you will see a list of forms that you must complete. Click on the name of each form in turn to access it. 2

3 Preparing Your Documents Before you begin completing the forms, we recommend that you prepare all of your documents for upload. Each document must be in either PDF or JPG format. All documents of one type must be in one file. For example, if you have multiple DS-2019s, you must scan all of them into one PDF document. You will need the following documents at various stages in the J-1 request process. Documents required for everyone are marked with a *. All other documents should be uploaded if they are applicable to your situation. Passport ID and expiry page(s)* Most recent I-94 card (front and back) All current and previous DS-2019s J-1 and/or J-2 visa stamp EAD card Copies of diplomas and transcripts plus English translation* Curriculum vita* Letters of recommendation TOEFL score report Copy of health insurance coverage if you will be purchasing it before arriving in the U.S. If you are bringing dependents, you will also need the following documents in separate files for each dependent: Dependent s passport ID and expiry page (s)* Copy of all previous immigration documents Tips for preparing documents Documents created in Microsoft Word can be saved as PDF files by choosing Save As in the file menu, and selecting PDF as the file type. If you need to combine multiple files into one PDF and you don t want to rescan them, there are several tools available online that can assist you with this. Google merge pdf for information. If you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat, you can use that program to combine files as well. If you receive an error during the upload process, check to be sure that your documents are in PDF or JPG format. If the error continues, please contact isss.link@emory.edu for assistance. 4 Preparing to Complete the Forms Below are screenshots of each form you will need to complete. Please review them carefully to be sure you have all of the information you need before you begin. The site will time out if you are inactive for more than 20 minutes and you will not be able to save an incomplete form. Please wait to begin each form until you are sure you will have time to complete it. Once you have finished each form, click Submit Request at the bottom. The form will be submitted and you will be returned to the main list of forms. Some fields on the forms will only appear if you answer a particular question Yes or No. For example, the fields for your U.S. address will only be visible if you choose Yes to the question Are you currently in the United States? So, do not worry if you do not see all of the fields in the screenshots below. Biographical Information 4

10 Dependents This form is only required if you are bringing a dependent or dependents in J-2 status. You will complete one form for each dependent. Click submit at the end of each form, then click on it again from the main screen to begin another one. 10

13 Compliance Statement Once you have completed all of the forms and returned to the main screen, you must complete and submit the compliance statement on that screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to review each item of the compliance statement. Check each box, and then click submit. This is the final step necessary to complete your portion of the request. 13

14 Notifications You will receive several notifications during the request process. After submitting each form, you will receive a confirmation that will appear similar to the screenshot below: It is also possible that, once your department has completed their portion of the request, that you will get an instructing you to log back in to take any further action. This does not always happen; if it does, there is nothing you need to do. It is safe to ignore the . The only part of the request process you will be able to see is the forms that you are required to fill out.
